its going to cost a lot more than my trips to winco, but the great thing is the boost to my self esteem when I see folks I know and have them realize that I too am a whole food shipper. when I don't have a lot in my cart I say I just got there.

will it be more prestigious to be ween at whole foods or up the road at Nuggett?

It doesn't matter unless they know who you are?

Visited store the other night. It is smaller than Roseville but still good. Employees are friendly, offering to help find something or make suggestions. Store is well stocked and like other grocery stores they have some very good deals and some things that are more expensive. If you are looking for higher quality in specific items you may find them here such as fresh grind peanut (or almond) butter, olive oils, syrups, cheeses, meats, prepared foods and dairy.

I found carrots and other produce were not any higher than Safeway. Steaks - sure you can get a $5/lb steak at Safeway or WinCo but is it really a comparison to a $17.99/lb filet or other expensive grade/cut of meat? No. Nor is it a necessarily a fair comparison ranking Sizzler to Land and Ocean or Sutter Street Steakhouse.

Bottom line, I too wont shop there exclusively preferring Costco, Safeway, TJ's, Raleys, Target for regular grocery/household items but will regularly shop WF for items I want to get there. I love to cook, experiment and learn - Whole Foods fills a need here.

I was quite disappointed by the selection of this whole foods Bakery in comparison to the one on Eastern and the Butcher department compared to Roseville.

I also was disappointed by the layout of the store, specifically the hot food area.

I probably will drive up to Roseville to visit Whole Foods.

I checked out their home brewing supplies. Their prices are competitive with Brewmeister but not exceptional. Neither the grain nor hops nor extract nor yeast is anything organic, local, or otherwise unique. Their grain selection is par but their hops and yeast selection is small, and their equipment selection is tragically lacking. I'm going to keep supporting Eric.

yeah, what's with the bakery area? unless I was completely missing something the three times I've been in there, I couldn't find where the fresh baked bread was. Only one brand that I could see and everything was lumped right together at the entrance before you hit produce section (which also seems small). I was really hoping to find great bread, like Grateful Bread Company or Acme or even Grace. I didn't have a problem with the hot food area though. That seems to be a profit center so it seemed pretty expansive to me.

They have better selection such as whoopie pies, other cakes, other bars, petit fours, other items not at Roseville or Folsom.

Roseville has more kabobs/satays/better pork selection.

Soldier, It depends on what type of car you drive and how you dress as well... :)

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Whole Foods missed an opportunity here. What they're known for are the offerings around the perimeter of the store, not the canned and boxed items down the center aisles. So what did they bring to Folsom? Minimal perimeter items. In comparison, the Nugget up the hill is a better option for variety.

They have a decent bread selection, including Grateful Bread Company. Breads are in an aisle near the produce.

I have been a couple of times now not including the free preview the week before opening.

Sure it is more expensive than Winco. Personally I don't find Winco comparative. If you want lots of processed food, there really isn't much comparison to Winco - go there. Winco is the closest store to my home, yet one of those I frequent least often. Many of the items there I just don't want to buy. It's convenient and usually inexpensive when I need it though.

To maximize one's WFM experience, the sales are usually quite good. The 20% off all beer was compelling a couple of weeks ago. I appreciate the pasture raised meats, which are usually fresh and tasty. There tends to be at least something reasonably priced at any time. However planning can be a bit harder to do that way.
I appreciate the unique items at the store. The prepared food is much more appealing that what I see I Safeway. I appreciate finding salami without nitrates or corn syrup.

I agree with Darth on the brewing supplies. I appreciate the thought, but the Folsom Brewmeister is much more complete and generally quite fresh. However I might appreciate option if I need something immediate - WFM hours are more plentiful.

Overall I am happy to have the market here. TJ's is still my staple.

I hope to try the garden sometime. I appreciate that they are bringing local brewers to visit. Moylan's head brewer is said to be bringing a cask in on Friday. Don't know if I can make it.

I didn't even know they had a bakery in there?

I hate the entrance and how it steers you thru the register area where people are leaving, why the heck did they do that? It makes it hard to maneuver your way into the store...

it would be cool if they had cup holders in the carts so we could drink a beer from the bier garden while we're shopping

As you enter the store, the bakery -- small as it is -- is to the far left in the front of the store.

Finally went for a quick look-see. Pretty much just skimmed the perimeter because I was pressed for time.
It's a very pretty store and staff was friendly. I went in the door where the cut flowers & bakery were. Everything looked good at the bakery, just pricey. Loved the variety, especially in the deli, produce, & meat counter. I forgot to look for the bison. Maybe next time.

The most impressive were the zillion kinds of cheeses. I got some goat cheese & endive for a snack tonight.

I can't see ever needing a cart there. It will just be basket shopping for me and probably only on rare occasions.
