^^^ the Chart House? I don't recall that being a super classy place. I remember it being inappropriately pricey for what you got. I thought it was more on par with big chain steak/ seafood restaurants. Are there any still open?

There are a bunch still open around the country (a couple dozen).

Depends on which one you went to. Some were less than desirable. Some (eg. Monterey, Newport Beach, etc) were classier. The classier ones are the ones still open.

I loved the Chart House in Newport Beach! I went there for years and now haven't been there for years. But, if/when I get down there again I will try it again.

I tend to agree. When I was young and used to going to Denny's, Chart House, Hungry Hunter, Hungry Tiger, and the Boar's Head were popular, places. Looking back, they weren't much different or better than Outback or Red Lobster.

I seem to recall that you got your meat and a trip to the salad bar, but if you wanted sides, those cost extra, a lot extra.

Still, back then I thought they were great. Used to go to the ones in Montara and Westwood.

Steve as someone who eats at Chart House regularly (and used to eat there once to twice a month) huge difference.

I don't know another one of those (Hungry Hunter, Boars Head, etc) that offers Caviar at the Salad Bar.

Or has someone make the Caesar Salad fresh for you on the spot. (both of these they did back then as well)

They change the menu quite regularly and personalize it (e.g. when I went for a birthday they had Happy Birthday Michael on it and other customizations that my family put in and wrapped them up to take home with me).

The sides are included with the meal (e.g. like mashed potatoes or a veggie) but you can purchase family sides ala carte. However, they are not just your typical 'here is mashed potatoes' or 'side of fries'.

Or a desert that is a chocolate lava cake with Godiva chocolate, heath bar crunch and looks like a volcano that takes 30 minutes to prepare and when it comes out is a sight to behold.

I have eaten at dozens of mid to upscale steakhouses and chain restaurants (more than 5 locations) Chart House wins hands down every time.

The level of service I have experienced Chart House I have only encountered at a handful of other restaurants ever.

Okay - well, I decided to go back for a second try at Land Ocean.  We're sans kids - so we headed to LO Saturday for dinner.  I have to say - I had a much better experience this time than my first time.  Staff was great - and the food was pretty good.  I had the Ribeye (cowboy?) and my wife had the Land Ocean (lobster tail and fillet).  Salad was good, steaks were cooked very nice and everything tasted good.

So . . . I'm glad I went back.

There is only one, in Granite Bay. It is probably not considered a steak house, such as your fav, The Chart House, BUT it is one of the best restaurant's around here. www.hawksrestaurant.com
