I am still laughing. People in other cubes are asking me what is so funny! I love the way that just snuck up on me as I scrolled down the thread. This thread should be in a book or something! rofl.gif

ps: I think that's my dentist's truck. I saw it parked on his lawn.

This week's Time Magazine has a cover story about "Gay Teens".  One thing I thought may be of interest to Swmr and other students is there are apparently some organizations that offer college scholarships to gay students.  I believe FHS has a program this week on Getting Ready For College, and given the enormous costs of higher education, it may be an avenue of funding that may be helpful for those qualifying.

The school wasn't very responsive when I asked for assistance in finding scholarships that are geared towards LGBT students.

But thanks for the heads up.

Alright, now I'm confused (no, not that kind of confused).

Is it Gay History Month, Gay Appreciation Month, or Gay History Appreciation Month?  And if it's Gay Appreciation Month, does that mean it's for appreciating gays themselves (I think my dentist is gay, and I *do* appreciate him - does good work), or is it for gays to just appreciate things in general (like gays walking around and saying "nice lawn" and stuff)  blink.gif

October is Gay History Month (farley already explained how that came to be) and June is Gay Pride Month (because of the Stonewall Riots, which happened in June).

And for those of you who took this thread to a whole different level, it was started to bring about an awareness on the history of the LGBT community.

These topics are not covered in schools yet, which I think is wrong. We are taught about the the problems the Asians faced on the West Coast, the problems Blacks faced in the South, what the Jewish faced during WWII, etc.

Yet when I ask about the handicapped and the gays during the Holocaust, my question is ignored. When I bring up Stonewall when we go through the 1960's in U.S. History, I am overlooked.

My peers need to be informed of all that has happened in this country, such as the government refusing to allow Jewish people to enter the States before and during WWII. They also need to hear about that horrors that the CIVILIANS went thru when the bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They need to hear about the Bataan Death March, the March of Tears, and all the other events in history that has shaped our nation into what it is today.

These issues (excluding the gay movement) are barely touched nowadays. What's that one quote..."if we don't learn from our past we are bound to repeat it." or something like that? Well, we're not being taught in the depth we should be.

Keep in mind, "when good men do nothing, they let evil truimph."

gotta go with c_vanderveen on this.  He is correct.
Some of you are manipulating the Bible to support your behavoir.  It doesn't work that way.

And others have used the bible to pass judgement upon other people, which is against what the bible say.

I only bring the bible into arguements where the other person brings it in first.

In my opinion, the bible is not the best text to use to back up your side of something for it contradicts itself on so many things, such as "an eye for an eye" and "turn the other cheek".

When people start quoting things against same-sex couples who want to get married, they need to look at what else the bible says that applies to their own personal life.

For those of you who say that marriage is between one man and one woman, and that God only meant for it to be that way. How many wives did King Soliman have?

For those of you who say that you shouldn't have a child out of wedlock becuase the bible says who, who ordained Adam and Eve to get married? Did they ever go through the ceremony of being married?

For those of you who claim that gays are pedophiles, do you believe in Genesis? If so, explain to me how incest is ok.

National Coming Out Day is on October 11th. It was started to encourage LGBT people to come out and take control of their lives instead of living a false life. The day started in response to the March on Washington D.C. usa.gif on October 11th, 1987.

Good question.

Now I want my Asian Appreciation Month. Everyone hates Asians in Folsom. I know they hate us.

Wait. How about Vietnamese Appreciation Month. We live all over the World now. We share the planet with gays too. I want my Month.

Can you please give me my Month. Darn it.

My statistics show that there are about 20,000 gays living in Folsom. About 50,000 Asians in Folsom. Another 50,000 Eastern Indian too in Folsom.

In order to have a month a group of individuals need be become active and have a cause they feel strongly about. In order for the above to happen, you need to get out there and express your feelings.

If you feel you deserve a month, then do something about it. Don't just attack other groups who have gotten there before your group.

I say, name the month. Preferably a Spring month. I for one appreciate Vietnamese - especially that soup with the cilantro in it. Oh yeah. Ooooooh yeah. When and where? I'm there! smile.gif

ps: you're right - Vietnamese Appreciation month is probably better than Asian Appreciation month, so you don't have to share the spotlight with, like, Samoans and Kurds and Russians and stuff. whistle.gif
