Fascinating stuff.  Doesn't make me want Palm trees, though!  Seriously, though, I'm a little skeptical of the inferences thay make in the article, such as traffic is not related to smog.  They make this assertion based on the fact that smog in Cool is high even though they have little traffic.  The problem with this assertion is that it is entirely feasible that the car-produced smog has simply blown up the hill and "landed" in Cool.

well, if you aren't fond of the resource i provided , search for your own. you can 'google' this info and come up with 1/2 dozen other resources that state the same thing. smile.gif

um....so the solution is to just keep your eyes averted as you move further and further away from the heart of the city?  thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Actually, I found that the best approach was to simply say "Hi" to them as I walked past. For some reason, when you acknowledge them as real people, they seem less likely to try to bum money from you. Perhaps it's because there's intrinsic value in just being acknowledged. It doesn't always work, unfortunately.

Once, I gave a homeless man who hung out in the parking lot of the Safeway two microbrews out of a 6-pack I'd just bought. He never asked for another thing from me and frequently gave me a nod/wave when he saw me there.

Don't get me wrong, I have no reason to doubt what they're saying about the trees. It was some of the other statements that didn't sit right. Ultimately, they were immaterial to the point being made.

I still don't want Palm trees instead of Oaks!

Glad I could clear that up for you. I'm pretty much always open to hearing new arguments, particularly those supported with facts. I may not agree or change my mind, but I'm open to listening. I just tend to be pretty skeptical about the veracity of a lot of "scientific evidence" out there. Just because somebody did a study that supported their hypothesis, that doesn't necessarily make it fact.

Hey, I just thought of something...maybe that gas the pine and oak trees put out is part of what makes riding a motorcycle through the foothills so much fun! Maybe it has some intoxicating effect!

Another NO vote on palm trees.  thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

This is not Southern California.  Terry is right about the mess that they can create after a significant storm.

I agree. Lets do something more original and not import the whole design including the plants. Palm trees just seem so out of place here.
