LOL. That's funny!
Did I hear the audience actually boo her last night? They never boo Paula.

yea, and I think Simon said the opposite of what she said just to mess with her.

** Spoiler Ahead **

Voting off Mandisa is ridiculous I cannot believe that Americans believe that Ace, or even Paris or Elliott are better than Mandisa, well there goes my conspieracy theory. So then lets see what happens next.

Shocking. eek.gif
This didn't make any sense to me at all, but I had a feeling tonight's results were going to be a shock.....we were overdue.....

Oh well.....on to Songs by Queen for next week......now that should really be interesting. If Bucky makes it through that one, I may have to start drinking......

It's not about the best singer, is it? Look at who sells records in this country. Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Avril Levine, they all look the same. Kelly Pickler is the favorite now.

I know that Ruben Stoddard and Clay Aiken and Fantasia Barrino don't look like those girls, but they don't sell nearly as many records, either.

It's not about who can sing. It's about who can get people to vote.

Mandisa has a killer voice, but her performance wasn't good. The week before wasn't either. We all know she can hit the notes, but her song choices haven't fit her voice. She hasn't showcased her pipes. Think about how well she did that Heart song. Now think about last night's performance. Worlds apart.

If it was about the best singer, Bucky would have been long gone.

Agreed on that. I loved it when she sang Heart. Last night, didn't like her so much.
But still- she's an amazing talent. I had her in my Top 3 for sure and can't believe she's gone.

Every year American Idol has a shocker vote off night...when Constantine was voted off last year, when Jennifer Hudson was voted off, Tamyra Grey...and everyone makes a big deal about it. I think people realize these people have great talent, but assume they will be safe and don't vote for them- that's why some of the better singers leave before the ones you're just wanting to leave. *ahem*Kellie*cough*. wink.gif

Not shocking at all -

IMO, Mandisa sorta sucked at singing. Was the audience last night that suprised? Lets face it peeps, were down to the last few and the worst one was not voted for.

Next week Queen!?!?! That ought to be an interesting show....
To all you Freaks, don't stop the rock....

We thought for sure that the bottom three was the group with Bucky, and McPheever and Ace in it because of the way they had them arranged. McPheever even thought so because she had tears in her eyes. We thought Ace would be the one going home. They totally tricked us. I don't think Mandisa would have won but her being voted off before Bucky and Ace amazes me. cuss3.gif Has anyone actually voted? Is it hard to get through? I bet it's nuts!

Here's the thing:

Sadly, Mandisa is nowhere near attractive enough to most people to be the next American Idol. It's about the total, marketable package - not just singing.

Ruben Studdard pulled it off because he was big and lovable - for women that standard doesn't exist.

Also, has there ever been an independent review of AI's vote tallying? If I were to guess, the producers know well ahead of time who is going to be the most marketable and thus end up winning.

I've been voting...and been able to get through about 1 in every 8 or nine tries. Just keep hitting redial. In a 15 minute time period, right after the show ends, I get through and vote about 10 times for my choice.... Don't know if it's any harder for any of the other contestants...

It's easier to get through if you wait about 1/2 hour.

During Season 2, Simon would bring attention to Kimbereley Locke's weight (she got third place) all the time- he said she needed to lose weight, she needed to dress according to her size, etc. I never got why Ruben's weight was never talked about, and he was way bigger than Kim. Ruben was a "dawg", Kim was just fat. sad.gif

That's because it is more social acceptable for a man to be fat than it is for a woman. Wish I could figure out why and I wish I could change it, but the fact remains.

Speaking of waiting 1/2 hour -- it's best to watch this show with your DVR/TIVO in use. Lets you skip through Ryan's mindless drivel and then when Paula or Simon gets to be too much, you can forward through the judges as well. You can watch the show in about 30 minutes. I don't think I'd be as big a fan if I had to watch the entire show.
