As for our prices & receptionists: If you call the front desk, you will get the same prices that you will find on our website www.MaribouSpaSalon.com Our stylists are independent contractors so if they choose to cut you a deal...that is between the 2 of you! We are a high-end salon where higher prices are to be expected. They are not far off of other salons in town. I believe that my staff & overall experience has been pleasing to most clients. We won in several categories of Folsom/El Dorado Hills Style magazine Best Of 2006 & the Telegragh for: Best salon, spa, mani/pedi, massage, place to get a facial, & have 2 of the 3 top stylists! We are busy & doing great!
I do take responsibility for the dissatisfied customers who have posted. I appologize for that. I dont want my entire staff to suffer for it. We are all just trying to make a living.
As for Lisa: She is a phenominal stylist! She has several years experience doing hair, a very large clientelle who keep her busy 60+ hours per week, and she won in the top 3 local stylist awards! Its unfortunate that someone here had a bad experience. Its a tough business!
I invite each of you to visit & experience Maribou for yourself. If you are on a budget, check our website for coupons or come to our holiday party Dec.1 @ 6pm where we will have GREAT savings, live jazz, wine, raffles & more.
I dont check in here too often so forgive me for not replying much in the future.

Thanks for your reply! Since starting this thread ages ago, I have found someone I trust to do my hair, but the next time I am in the mood for any of the other spa services, I will definitely be checking out your salon! Thanks for popping in!
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

I refuse to buy into the ridiculous prices. 150+ for highlights and cut??!!! ARe you OuT of YouR minD ladIEs??? I've tried a lot of stylists and failed. I began considering how I'll pull the job off doing it myself somehow until I went to a hole in the wall next to the Dollar Tree off East Bidwell, Paid 65 bucks for a crown highlight, cut and style. The place isn't beautiful, but she always does what I want, takes her time and while I'm under he dryer, only squeezes in a client that just needed a cut and no style. If they need more she gives them an appointment.
Apparently naming names on this forum gets you in trouble, but I'm Mylo's wife and one of many lousy experiences I've had in Folsom has already been identified on this forum, however I do have new a respect for her after reading her professional response within this thread. It demonstrates she has what it takes to run a successful buisness. With hair however, I tried many times with her because I understand color can be a tricky. After experiencing 5 expensive and rushed treatments, with results I had difficulty adjusting to, I finally gave up.
I don't think it's a lack of talent in the area. I believe it's the lack of effort put forth to take the time and pay real attention to what the client wants - especially if you're a new client. I mean, they are about to do permanent changes to your hair but yet you'll be under that sink within 2 minutes of sitting in that chair, or sometimes they throw a color wheel at you and tell you to "pick your colors" and walk off. It seems to me they either overbook themselves or just want you back out the door minus your 150+ dollars as quickly as possible. They say "if it doesn't work out just come back and I'll put a little toner on it" as they reach for their makeup bag and rush out the door to catch up with the other stylists to "do lunch".
All I ask is a stylist write down the color numbers when I say "I'll always want the same thing" so I don't walk out looking different every single time, not ask where I part my hair then skimp like hell on the foils and to also stay off that blasted cell phone when the subject is nonsense during my appointment. I also prefer the stylist not squeezing in other clients while I'm under the dryer unless you can guarantee I won't accidentally get over processed.
Expensive salons have never met my expectations - which is just a good haircut and color - for that incredible money. I get the best service and constant outstanding results from a gal who is genuinely friendly that barely speaks english. I watch "Deal or no deal" on a 15 inch TV set that's stuck in the corner with plastic ivy drapped over it. Even under those florecent lights I am truely able to relax because I know she's not going to perform a science experiment on my head and bill is going to be under what I make in day.

It wasn't cheap ($130 before tip) but I don't get my hair done that often, and wanted a quality color and cut. If I went more than 3x a year for that I may think again, but I think it's worth the ease you feel when you completely trust the stylist. There's nothing more stressful than putting your appearance in the hands of someone who may or may not know what they are doing.
I will continue to go to Amanda at Salon Dolce Vita and hope others looking for a stylist in Folsom will give her a try. I've heard good things about other stylists there as well, but I think I've found somone to stick with.

I experienced Maribou for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised by my stylist, Tiffany. She was very attentive, listened to what I wanted and was down to earth and genuinely interested. I say pleasantly surprised because it was a gamble for me leaving Rowena and Takashi in EDH b/c Rowena there does great hair but charges Beverly Hill prices. Can't do it anymore! So, from where I'm coming from Maribou was actually a steal compared to what I've been paying. I like the atmosphere at Maribou as well... I'll be going back.

While browsing the net on a quest of finding the "perfect stylist", I "stumbled" upon this website and read your comment.
At that point, I simply could no longer just "read", but I had to respond.
I appreciate the information you provided on Maribou Salon and their "experienced" stuff, but unfortunately I have to somewhat disagree with your with respect to some members of the Mraribou team and their expertese!
About a year ago I walked into a very unassuming salon in El Dorado Hills, located on Green Valley Rd and Francisco Blvd.
I was desperate for a trim and partial highlights for my light brown hair...I should have done my due diligence, and my homework....instead I succumbed to my urgent need of fresh color and style, and paid the price!
The Stylist, "L" , "who volunteered" to do the services, stated that she had over 26 years of experience, both in CA as well as out of state.
I happily sat in her chair and saw my perfect color and hair go down the drain....She clearly did not know what she was doing. By the time she was done with me, I had a huge clump of hair in the front that was nothing but solid bleach. There was no blending it at his point...I had to leave the salon and come back later in an attempt to repair the damage (with both recolor and additional cut that took my hair much shorter than I wanted).
Long story short, it was the worst hair experience of my life!!!
Since then, this stylist moved to no other place but Maribou Salon!!!
Unlike what you may believe, this stylist did not come from some of the "best salons" in town, but rather from a very mid to low end salon, which offered no continuous education or classes.
I think that in order for Maribou to present and maintain such high end reputation, lavish decor and ample advertising should be supported with high level stylists with a successful track record! Unfortunately, not everyone on that team fits this category!

Hi, I'm a stylist at Maribou and I just couldn't resist responding to this topic.
We are all independent contractors, so that means we rent our stations, and are able to set our own prices. If you have experienced that our prices are higher than average, that could be based on who did your service. Personally I charge 100 for a partial highlight with a cut, and 120 for a full with a cut. Most people only ever need a partial because I am very generous with my foils.
Since we opened our doors 3 months ago, we have hosted Vidal Sasson for a 3 day masters cutting class, Redken for haircoloring workshops, a barbering class for men's hair design, not to mention numerous product knowledge classes from Pureology, Bumble and Bumble, and Redken.
We have 18 stylists who have come here from the best salons in town (including some of the ones mentioned earlier in this topic) and we share the common desire of giving our clients a consistently great experience.
Additionally, many of us, including myself, work late evenings and weekends. Also, many of us, including myself, accept credit and debit cards.

Unfortuanately, not all your team members fit this category!
When you first opened I was looking forward to visit your salson, but after checking the website and seen this stylist on your list, I changed my mind quickly!

I will not go to the Grand Salon on Blue Ravine, but other than that, I'm open to suggestions. Can you share your good experiences? Thanks!
