Awww, this is making me miss Folsom!! We are in Denver for a few years, but I was born and raised in Folsom, and are moving back in a few years. I have fabulous memories of my hometown.

I miss Jack Kipp too, he was my godfather and next door neighbor. The stories he would tell, and the things he would say, will forever be with me. He was smart, hilarious, and so loving- I miss him so much.

The China Dragon was owned by the Lam's, their daughter was in my class at St. John's, and then later at FJHS and FHS. I loved eating there, but I also loved, and still do love, eating at Hop Sing's. Bill and his wife are so kind and he remembers us from when we were kids.

I loved Rainbow Ice, the shaved ice place on the south side of Rainbow Bridge, just above the Old Powerhouse. It was such a treat to get to go there on a hot summer day.

And buying candy at Peppermint Patty's was a child's dream!

And the Yukon!!! YUM!!

Partying in high school at the Overlook.

One of the things I miss the most though, are our "Sunday drives" in the "country"....basically driving down the dirt road that is now Blue Ravine, all the way to the Junior High, which is now Folsom Middle School, then driving out to Scott Road and back.

There are still some great things that are still done now, that were also done back in the day: Mrs. Jones decorating for Halloween and dressing up as a witch for the kids to come and see, concerts in the park, & the rodeo and cattle drive.

LOL I live at the overlooks now. They redid the whole complex, too bad my downstairs neighbors are buzzkills.
Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors... and miss.

Yeah, as simplistic as it seems I loved the countryish part of town. For instance, my parents used to like going skiing at Lake Tahoe. Anytime we were coming from I 50 and took our exit (at Bidwell) I knew we were "almost home" but not quite. It totally felt like it once we got to the Raley's area.

Even though it was more desolate it seemed to go pretty quick. I guess it's about 3 miles and took 5 to 10 mins... I wouldn't be surprised it it takes forever now with all the shopping centers and lights. I know nothing can last forever, but its kinda sad to think pretty soon the scenery might be completly gone unless you're REALLY out of town.

BTW I can't believe I forgot two of the most obvious ones from the early 90s (though I believe they're just across the border in Rancho Cordova, on Folsom Blvd).

The Mine Shaft - miniature golf course and huge arcade, I think it had batting cages too. My parents and one of my babysitters took me there lots of times, had a birthday there once too.

Speciality Sales - classic car dealership. Imagine a showroom full of ZZ Top hot rod type cars lol, along with 50s era memorabilia, they even had an old style Coke machine with the glass bottles. This is the MOST nostalgic to me because my dad owned it. smile.gif

Did you and your parents ever stop in Sam's Town on the way down the hill?

You'd remember Sam's Town in Cameron Park. Peanut shells on the floor, tons of arcade games.

Yeah, that's it! The peanut shells stand out the most and I think they had Matzo Ball soup too - is it still there? On one of the trips to Tahoe, we took one of my school friends with us and all stopped there on the way home.

Sorry, but your last trip to Sam's Town will have to be your last trip to Sam's Town. It closed for good in 2001. There's a Food 4 Less and shopping center there now.

I still wonder what they did with all the old-time stuff that was in there. Do you remember the fans on the pulley system?

Sam's Town was great fun for kids, but there was also a fine dining restaurant inside Sam's Town. It was called the Lillian Russell Room - omg, such wonderful steaks - and it had the western theme going in there also.

Anyone remember Tio Pepe's where the KFC is now at East Bidwell and Wales? Great margaritas and mexican food with excellent prices.

I remember the Lillian Russel Room. My son used to call it the restaurant with the nekkid ladies because of some of the pictures on the wall.

Oh that's a shame, but I'm not surprised. Those fans were neat. smile.gif Yeah I wonder about that too, maybe they auction it off at lower prices to the public. Owning something that used to be in a business would be cool just for the historical purposes too.

Do you remember the music store Wherehouse? I got tapes and VHS movies at the one near Sunrise mall, and there were several in SJ that closed down around '02-04. I remember alot of the fixtures were on sale when they were liquidating it.

aww.. Folsom memories. I haven't lived in Folsom since I graduated high school (1984) and all the things that have been mentioned here I remember and miss too.

Peppermint Lane candy store on Sutter Street was my all time favorite place as a kid. We lived just up and over the hill from Sutter on Persifer. We would walk down to Peppermint lane on a mission. Penny candies were the greatest!

I miss walking to Lucky's to get milk and bread for my mom.

I miss the annual bonfire FHS had every year across the street from the old high school and the homecoming parades through town.

I miss my mom's shop "The Half Hitch" next to the bicycle shop on the corner of Coloma and Natoma.

I even miss getting chased by the dozens of chickens/ducks and peacocks at the park...haha

I miss the open fields at Glenn/Sibley, the open fields around Intel, and the open fields at E. Bidwell/50. And Express Gourmet. I shed a half-tear everytime I pass by where Express Gourmet used to be.

I know exactly how you feel. Alot of that stuff was still there in the 90s, so my experience probably wasn't much different than yours. I'm also nostalgic about even inconsequential daily stuff that was no big deal at the time, just because it reminds me of the past.

Mrstuffpaws - same here. It's weird to think Bidwell used to look just like Scott Road almost up to the Raley's. If someone saw it now they'd probably flip if you told them it was a rural two lane road as late as 1998.

Yeah when my family would go on trips to So Cal to visit family I remember on the way home turning off the freeway at 50 & Scott rd and seeing all the cattle, horses and there used to be a bull off in the fields where In-N-Out burger & Costco are today. Also being that we lived in Lexington Hills, going into town to shop seemed like a long trip but it was always neat to see the horses out in the pasture where those to ranch homes used to sit off Bidwell. I think one of the homes burned down and then later the other was bulldozed down in favor of that office park that sits there now, I don't know the exact story on those to homes but it would be awesome if anyone on here knows what the story on those places was?
