Well, that's the last time Cal will be playing in the Rose Bowl this season....

Michigan back in the Top 25... and still undefeated in the Big Ten. A Rose Bowl for them??? If they can beat Wisconsin and OSU.

Wow... Cal has sure laid an egg.

LSU looks tough. With an easier schedule upcoming... look for them in the BCS Championship.

ND has got to be one of the worst teams I have ever seen. Thanks UCLA for losing to them tongue.gif

Even if Michigan looses to the Badgers, they can still go to the Rose Bowl by winning all the rest and beating Ohio State.

I never felt Cal was a great team ( top 10) to begin with, but I am surprised they didn't win these past 2 weeks.

LSU may be one of the top teams but they are going to need help getting to the BCS.

Look for LSU to get some help this Thursday when Va Tech beats BC.

The game is in Blacksburg... and its at night. Fans will be going crazy... and the team will respond.

Poor Cal. What has happened to you over the past 3 weeks. From an almost #1 to a ZERO! The Chicago Cubs of the Pac 10.

Oregon looks tough... good match up with them and Arizona State next week.

Look who keeps climbing the rankings... its our good old friends who were left for dead... Michigan!

OSU looks to keep its undefeated season going against Wisc this Saturday... let's hope for an upset.

Would be cool to see an Oregon vs LSU Championship Game!

Can you believe Michigan is ranked 12th in the BCS?

I see the Badgers got ranked 19th in the latest USA poll & Michigan 14th. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out all the games being played by pollsters. It helps OSU's claim to number 1 if they beat ranked teams instead of some of the usual patsies in the Big 10.

I'll be rooting for the Badgers this week, but suspect next week could be the upset for OSU as they have to play Illinois and OSU could be looking ahead to Michigan.

I just don't see Arizona State going undefeated.

I'm not going to complain too much as it has been a long time since Cal has been competitive. In college it simply takes time to regain prestige.

However, Cal just has a serious problems with coaching on defense. They've seemed to have solid talent but when you look at what some teams do with less (Schiano with Rutgers comes to mind, though they looked terrible against Pat White last weekend) I don't really understand why the defensive line always looks tired and receivers are wide open. ASU looked terrible for a half, but Cal settles for field goals and lets them score at the half, then the offense goes anemic while the defense leaves people wide open. Carpenter clearly on a huge high in the second half, but I don't think there's a QB in the country who would have failed to make those throws.

When Longshore got hurt I felt that may have been it. Cal's offense has been exciting to watch, but you simply can't require them to score 40 every single game in order to win the conference. Had Cal avoided that injury they would have been fine and it's even conceivable that they'd still be undefeated, because their opponents have been equally lousy in those three losses. Surprisingly Riley turned out to be a suitable replacement (in fact, my opinion is that he is probably more talented than Longshore) but he was put into a tough situation and made a mistake. And if he hadn't made that mistake, I feel he would have played against UCLA and won that game fairly easily.

It was clear to me Longshore was still in bad shape - if you look at his first interception, he had Jackson wide open, but his footwork was so ridiculous it caused him to underthrow the pass. At the time it was 21-20 and a healthy Longshore (or Riley) would have thrown a TD pass on that play. Longshore would have been healthy for that game if Riley was given the OK to go for the UCLA game (but the coach didn't have confidence in him due to aforementioned blunder). He took some hits in the second half that clearly aggravated the injury.

It really is amazing how one play can affect a season (and I mean the ankle injury to Longshore, not the blunder by Riley). They have been anemic on offense since that injury and they simply could not afford it.

Since all the receivers will be leaving this year (I expect Jackson will probably declare for the draft) and Montgomery/Best is no substitute for Lynch/Forsett, things are going to be real ugly for Cal next year. It appears their window for the Rose Bowl has passed, for now.
It's Saturday night. I have no date, a 2 liter bottle of Shasta, and my all Rush mix tape. Let's rock.

The USA Today poll is voted on by a board of 60 coaches who are currently in D1 positions.

The Harris poll is is comprised of former players, coaches, administrators, and current and former media who submit votes for the top 25 teams each week. The panel has been designed to be a statistically valid representation of all 11 FBS Conferences and independent institutions.

* These are the 2 polls that go into the BCS equation. The rest is all computer based.

I would find it hard to manipulate the voting too much... unless the Big Ten representatives placed their teams all in the top 10... each week.

I hope we see a Pac 10 vs SEC championship... because these two conferences have been stated as the best this year (and most likely is true). Let's really see who is better... the West or East.

Oh yeah...

Charlie Weis has got to be one of the worst football coaches ever!

4th and 8 on the Navy 25 with :41 left in the game... tied at 28.

What do you do? You might say... try the FG for the win. If you miss it... at least you get OT. You make it... you get the win. Not Charlie... he goes for it and fails.

Then he loses in OT 46-44 to Navy. A team that has not beat them in 43 years! That one will sting for a while.

But they fired Ty Willingham to get Weis so he must be great! tongue.gif If Notre Dame doesn't win another game I'll be happy.

I'm with you there. To this point... Ty and Charlie have nearly identical records at ND. Wonder why Charlie isn't feeling any heat yet from the boosters. No Urban Meyer type waiting in the wings??? Yeah... that turned out well for ND. I can't believe they extended Charlie's contract.

1-8 for ND. NBC must be hoping to get out of their contract soon. Might be time for ND to join a conference.
