Well, while your slapping Chipshot around--I thought I'd go ahead and check to see if any real estate is open in Midland, Texas.
Nary a dang parcel.
All owned by Saudis.
Sorry, Chip---guess you can't move there either lmaosmiley.gif

What do you have against Saudis?? We need to be tolerant of the people who are buying-up our properties. It's called diversity, equality, fairness, and equal opportunity. The Saudis...Chinese...etc....And we need to be patient with the illegals and let them in...after all, all they want to do is work, not commit crime or anything like that.

Tolerance, people....Diversity, people....Spread Love, not hate or fear..... whistle.gif

I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

biggrin.gif MY Husband and I have been to T2 Yan several times and just love it!! It is the best Chinese in Folsom. You will not be disappointed. The service is great and there is no rush! Happy to have a great Chinese Restaurant in Folsom!![ RMK rkstylist name='NewOldCokeDave' date='Nov 20 2007, 08:31 PM' post='197968']
I've been holding off in replying to this thread for a while to see where it was going to go and to give T2 Yan a few visits before posting about it. I'm actually pleased to see that I'm not the only one who has enjoyed this restaurant.

We were huge fans of Golden Lake, as it was "our" Chinese restaurant. After the demise of Golden Lake, we tried several of the other establishments around town to see if we could find a new "our" restaurant, and we always came away with feeling a general lacking in flavor, texture, service or just plain old atmosphere.. We flat missed "our" restaurant, and we were depressed as it seemed like that particular experience was now gone for good. We don't like a lot of change when it comes to "our" restaurants.

I did stop by when they were doing construction and I was please when they told us that another Chinese restaurant was going in the same locale, but we were dubious that it would hold any kind of candle to "our" old restaurant.

We have now been to T2 Yan 5 times, and I can happily and honestly say, without a doubt, it has been consistently great each and every time.. We also have very happily found that T2 Yan is definitely several cuts above Golden Lake, and any of the other places around town we have tried..

The service has always been top notch, attentive and very personable. The food is definitely several cuts above anywhere else I've been in town.

I'm not going to go into a lot of flowery prose about the flavors and tastes, as I want you to experience that for yourself..

I worked in SF for many years and frequented many of the hole-in-wall places around town and there were some AMAZING places there. T2 Yan easily captures the flavors and tastes of those tiny little SF hide-a-way jewels, but with out all the noise, crowding and Peking ducks dangling from the ceiling. smile.gif I find T2 Yan to be a relaxing and enjoyable time with, in my humble opinion, truly great food.. I don't feel rushed and I feel that the restaurant actually enjoys that we are there.. Not like a lot of other places (Not just other Chinese restaurants) where they seem to want to get you out of there as soon as you receive your order.

I will freely admit that our tastes are fairly pedestrian, but I judge a restaurant on it's basics and if they can pull those off well, then it makes me want to experiment further.. T2 Yan has passed on all accounts, IMHO. My 7 year old son will hands down pick dinner at T2 Yan over dinner at McDonalds, Wendy's or Burger King (And those of you with 7 year olds know that's a pretty high recommendation) So if you don't trust me, ya gotta trust my kid.. LOL We *fight* over who gets the left-overs in their lunch the next day. And the kid will even ask if he can have it for breakfast the next morning.. (I tell him "No", and that he must have the sugar-encrusted artifically flavored cereal up in the cupboard instead.. And then I gleefully pack up the leftovers in my lunch without a shred of guilt.. I figure he'll have a kid someday that he can bully the leftovers from later on.. wink.gif Seriously there is usually enough to feed the family again the next day, so everybody is happy..) I can't wait to branch out a bit more and try some of the off-menu dishes.

We met Mr Yan tonight and what I can report, is an owner who genuinely seems to care about his clientele and business. He chatted with us for a while tonight and we talked about cooking, the restaurant business and just things in general. You can see where his relaxed demeanor carries over to the atmosphere of his restaurant. He even told me the secret to his incredible sweet and sour sauce.. And I ain't tellin'!! lmaosmiley.gif

He told me that he has read this forum when he can get the time and has made note of some of the critiques he has read here and has taken to heart the comments and made or is planning some changes based on some of your comments. He does listen.. He even pointed out that you can email him and he has his business card up front with areas for comments and ratings. He definitely takes this seriously.

I know everybody has their own tastes and what I may like, isn't what you may like, but I have now recommened this restaurant to several people and every single one of them has agreed with me on all points, so I can't be too far out in left field..

And now what I will say is that if you haven't tried it already, give it a try, you may just like it..
I feel it will become one of Folsom's "shining stars"

I know we have found "our" restaurant again.. I hope to be going there for many years to come, because we'll be going back again and again..

Oh yeah, make sure you taste it before you pour soy sauce on it.. You may find some interesting flavors in there!! wink.gif

+1
Good take out dinner from there this week. BIG portions, good quality. It would be helpful if they had some info on their crab and lobster specialties on the website menu since they advertise it in big print.

Coupon available in one of those coupon magazine we keep getting (must get about 10 different coupon things every month!)

Took my wife, a daughter and her friend there for dinner there tonight. There wasn't an empty table in the place. It was fantastic as usual.

We had the Salt and Pepper Fish, which I have every time I go. Ma Po Tofu was excellent. We also had General style beef and Chicken Chow Mein, steamed rice and tea. With 20% discount coupon, tax and tip, it came to $45. We had leftovers, too.

They have a new thing where you save your receipts, and after they total $100, you get a free entree up to $10.

Awesome.

Glad to see you tried something besides the s&p fish!

Aloha's doing a 'points' thing, too. They tally it up on a VIP swiped card.

I just tried T2 Yan, which took over the spot that was Golden Lake.

I must say it was pretty good.

They changed the decor, bringing in bamboo posts and dividers, and have a hand painted mural of a bamboo grove on one wall. There's a bar in there, too. I don't remember the old place having one.

Owner, I believe his name is Tu, was friendly and helpful, suggesting the Salt and Pepper Fish. It was awesome! Lightly fried and tossed with sliced jalapenos.

The chow mein it came with was as chow meiny as any other, but the fish was great. It also came with won ton soup, egg roll and what looked like fried wonton stripps.

I'll definitely try it again.

We ate at Y2 last night, take out. Y'know, it was about 15 minutes before closing, but they were cheerful on the phone and cheerful in person. The food was hot and very good. We ordered shrimp in lobster sauce, broccoli chix, and crab ragoon. Too many times Chinese places over cook the shrimp so it's chewy. No so with this place. Very good. Veggies were crisp and fresh. The prices are really good, especially with online coupons. The meals aren't particularly innovative, just general traditional Chinese dishes, but they are well prepared and very flavorful.

If it's true that this place is for sale, its unfortunate for Folsom. It's a really good restaurant. Hip Sing is closer to us, but I've never really "clicked" with the food or the service.

The best Chinese in the Sac area is New Canton down on Broadway in Sacramento, but its a long drive and frequently a long wait. I usually reserve that for Dim Sum. Y2 is a pretty good back-up favorite Chinese place.

My husband and I are frustrated over Chinese food in Folsom. We didn't care for T2 Yan at all. We tried New Canton some months ago and loved it! As you said, it's a bit far for a quick dinner out, but I'm so fed up with Chinese food in town that I'm getting to the point I'd rather make that drive to Sac.

We went to Hop Sing Palace the other night for the first time in about 10 years and we won't be back. First off, they've got stinky Glade French Vanilla candles on the tables. What's up with that? The stench was blowing right in our faces, so we blew out the candle on our table...but the whole restaurant reeked of these stinky candles. Honestly, when I go out to eat I want to smell the food. We ordered egg rolls, which were only served with sweet and sour sauce. When we asked for the spicy mustard, we were presented small bowls with mustard and catsup. Yep, catsup -- in a Chinese restaurant. That's a no no in my book. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken which was tasteless and bland (also our complaint at T2 Tan). When the waitress asked how it was I told her it wasn't spicy. She asked, "It isn't spicy enough?" I said, "No, it isn't spicy at all." Blech. Lastly we ordered Mu Shu Pork. The pork mixture was pretty good ... but (and you know a "but" is coming)..... 1) The waitress prepared the first pancake for us and brushed plum sauce all over the outside of the pancake. How are you supposed to pick it up with sauce all over the outside? 2) She left both ends open; when we make these ourselves we always tuck one end in so the insides don't fall out when we pick them up. 3) The pancakes themselves were porous and brittle (one of the complaints we also had of T2 Tan); there's no way to eat these without the whole shebang falling apart. The meal was a huge disappointment. Frankly it surprises me that they're still in business,. unless a substantial percentage of their customers are tourists who won't be back anyway. UGH

Went there a couple of weeks back.. Right after I heard it was for sale. Got take-out and brought it home.. Mr Tu wasn't there, and I was wondering what was up.. Only recognized one staffer from before..

After my previous raves, I have to say I was EXTREMELY dissapointed.. It was definitely not the same as my many previous trips.. T2 Yan has been my absolute favorite up to this point..

Something was/is not quite "right".. I'm giving it one more shot and if it's not right again, I'm wiithdrawing my previous rave review..

I don't know about the candles, haven't been there in a couple weeks. And how much spicy mustard do you really need? When I get that there I barely dip my eggrolls in it and it totally clears my sinuses and makes my eyes water.

And how do you put the plum sauce on the outside of the pancake? That makes no sense. It lays flat, spread the sauce, add the Mu Shu, and roll it up and eat it like a burrito. How hard can that be? They stay together fine when I eat them.

We didn't need a lot of spicy mustard; we were offered none until we asked for it. My point about the "small bowls" wasn't that there wasn't enough mustard, but that they also contained catsup.

I had never seen any restaurant prepare mu shu pork with plum sauce on the outside before. This was a first. And the pancakes at most restaurants ~ as well as the ones I've made myself ~ typically hold up just fine. It is rare to have a restaurant serve such porous and flimsy pancakes, but Hop Sing and T2 Tan both do.

Went there a couple of weeks back..

Well I'm extremely excited to report that my previous reported experience was a fluke evening, and all is right with my T2 Yan world again.

Mr Yan was there this evening and I recanted my previous tale about my experience and he graciously accepted it and told me he would deal with the issue..

In his defense, he has two restauarants and divides his time between the two, and apparently I hit a night when the staff wasn't giving it their all because the boss wasn't in that night.

He let me know that he has other customers that have his cell number and when things aren't right, they call and he addresses it.. I got the impression he would have given it to me if I wanted it.. I told him that I would just keep coming back and keep him posted that way..

The guy *knows* customer service..

It is right back to where it should be and the food is still awesome (IMHO) as always..

Anyway, I still stand by my previous positive review. I still think it's the best Chinese restaurant in Folsom

I was showing property in Galt last night, and decided to stop in the original T2 of Twin Cities.

To my surprise, Tu was there. I hung out for a while, had mixed veg, General style beef and my favorite, salt and pepper fish.

Great meal!

I really hope that guy survives this downturn in the economy, because he runs the best Chinese restaurant in town, and apparently, in Galt, too.
