When you're in Santa Monica Try Fathers Office.
mmmmm good.
mmmmm good.
My BFF and I were in Santa Monica last Tuesday. It reminds me a lot of San Luis Obispo. Didn't go to Father's Office (great name, BTW) but we may have to the next time we're there. I have to let her recover a bit more before we take another trip.

I'm so glad to hear that. My sister is like a new woman now. New hairstyle (it grew back curly) and a brand new set of boobies.

He obviously hasn't tried my pancakes. Even when my wife re-heats them at her work, she gets raving compliments about the smell.
OK, my secret family recipe is:
Follow the recipe on any box of bisquick or jiffy mix.
Then add:
brown sugar
vanilla extract
cinnamon
nutmeg
maybe a little bit of ginger
and some butter extract
My wife thinks they are so good, she eats them without syrup. My dad's recipe stopped at the nutmeg, I've added the last two ingredients. The reason I say maybe on the ginger is, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

Those are the ingredients I typically add to my pancakes, but I make them from scratch (not from a mix). I also add grated apples. MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Her hair is growing back much thicker than it ever was. She has named her baldness and regrowth phases. They are, in order, the Uncle Fester, the Militant Lesbian, and she is now sporting the Astronaut's Wife look.

That's so funny! When I saw my sister in January, her hair was about an inch long. My sister had always loved her hair, had beautiful hair, flowing thick locks that she curled every day. My sister is a very conservative suburban Mom. When we met up at the airport in Tampa I ran and gave her a hug and she said, "So, do you like the butch look I've embraced? Even got the funky glasses to go with it." It was true, she looked very butch but also very comfortable. A year ago my sister wouldn't have been. While cancer sucks, it does tend to put life in perspective.

Pancakes....
2 cups flour (I use King Arthur brand)
pinch of salt
2 teaspoons baking soda (Arm & Hammer)
2 1/4 cups buttermilk
Optional:
- frozen blue berries
- chocolate chips
mix dry ingredients
mix in buttermilk - some lumps are ok - don't over mix
add any optional items, fold in gently
cook...
Not really more difficult than a mix. Too many things in the mix I am not interested in...
Jiffy Ingredients:
Bleached Wheat Flour, Sugar, Lard, Buttermilk Solids, Dextrose, Leavening, Baking Soda, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Salt, Soy Flour, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Lecithin, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Glycerin, Carrageenan, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid.

Has anyone tried Early Toast, the restaurant that replaced My Grandma's Kitchen? Is it related to Toast in Granite Bay??
We tried Early Toast on Sunday, April 20, for lunch. It took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted because there were several items on the menu that sounded really good.
I had the Folsom-style omelet w/ their house potatoes and my friend had the blueberry waffle. The food was awesome. As my dining partner, who's just a little vain about his own homemade waffles said, "This is a damn fine waffle. As good as my own." High praise indeed. My omelet was excellent. The food was hot, plentiful and very flavorful. The ingredients in the omelet were fairly standard, what made it really tasty was the addition of sour cream and chives to the top. Very good. The house potatoes also had something breakfast potatoes usually don't have--a flavor. They had added red and green peppers. I also had fresh squeezed OJ. And they do mean fresh squeezed. They had a box of oranges at the counter and were squeezing them in a juicer.
The service still needs to get the bugs worked out. We were seated immediately, but there were two servers trying to take our drink orders, two glasses of milk brought out, etc. Hmmm, I'm complaining that they tried to take too good of care of us? Took awhile for the food, but since it was hot and so very good, we really didn't mind.
About the ambience(sp).... well, while we were waiting for our food we started talking about "early toast" and where the term came from. We kinda digressed....maybe my blood sugar levels were dipping.... but there was the distinctive smell of burning toast coming from the kitchen. I looked down at the tables, which I think are pretend stone, and realized that the table looked disturbingly like an oversized piece of burnt toast. Yeah, I was in a strange mood.
I didn't like the noise level in the restaurant. Because of the open ceiling, the noise of a full restaurant was a bit of a conversation stopper. The restaurant owner/manager needs to add some sound dampening materials. Otherwise, the decor is interesting, definitely not your typical breakfast place.
With time, I have no doubt that the service will work the kinks out, and the food is excellent and well priced. We will definitely be back because there are several other items on the menu that sound very good.
