Historically I didn't find that much difference between CC and Best Buy. Both employ people of limited knowledge about the equipment they sell, and you need a good sale to get a good deal.
Costco has limited selection overall, but has a good selection of screens and last time I looked extended the waranties with the price.
With CC's current financial state, I would not consider gift cards or waranty coverage from them. However a decent product should have a decent waranty coverage from the manufacturer.
With Best Buy - it is best to look online first and print-out the product price before you go. I almost always find the in-store price to be notably more.
BB's Magnolia HiFi division has some nice products, but not necessarily nice prices.
I have purchased products from both in the past. I don't go for their technical advice.
I used to like Good Guys, but their lack of existance hasn't really bothered me.

For the record, Chris, just posting "Hey Your store sucks" is not really cool. However you later posted why you feel this way. My general rule of thumb here is to try and not give personal attacks, rather to discuss *why* you think the store is bad or whatever.
...Or else it ends up in a pissing match. Which is sometimes fun to watch, but then you just end up with pee everywhere.

ALL Circuit City warrenties WILL still be covered by Circuit City's Insurance. As for chapter 11, it does not exactly mean that they are gone for good. CC has had tough times before and have risen back before. The City in folsom is one of the best stores around and has even out performed many of the others in the district.
To the person that had their cd's stolen- I cant really say anything but it wasnt the city is folsom. Unfortunately CC hires all kinds of people and their are dishonest people everywhere. But I can garentee it will not happen at The City in folsom. The car gear guys over there are all honest, honorable people.
Sorry if you have had a bad experience but I think you should all give it a second chance. Maybe when you see the ads this Sunday you will change your mind.

CCCat, for someone who claims to not be an employee;
- why is your forum name VERY Circuit City-esque as questioned earlier
- how do you know so much CC info as a CC supervisor or lead associate\clerk would know (warranties covered by CC insurance)?
- how can you 'garentee" (sp - should be guarantee) en experience like Chris' wont happen at the CC in Folsom (assuming of course you are not a manager, supervisor or employee)?

And just how do you guarantee that everyone at CC is honest..... I really hope you are joking.

He's listening to your Barry Manilow CD's right now!
if this guy is truly not a circuit city employee then he's got a serious fetish with the place or has a brother/sister/friend that works there that he's using to get his information from

First trip to CC in Folsom, maybe 4-5 days after they opened: looked like a nearly empty warehouse with some stuff thrown onto some shelves. Looked at a laptop but it wasnt in stock and the employee couldnt tell me when they would be. Wanted a case for my wifes iPod Touch, but they didnt have any.
Second trip to CC in Folsom, about a month after it was open: Parking lot was empty. About 5 guys bugged me about whether I wanted any help within 30 seconds, so I got annoyed about not being able to browse in peace and left. Still looked like a half empty warehouse.
Not seeing any reason for a third trip with Costco, Sams Club and Best Buy having good stock of a wide variety of products, help when I want it, and they'll still be in business next year. Fry's is a little out of the way, but also worth a trip to go treasure hunting.
What surprises me more than anything is having a bunch of Intel buildings full of computer guys, that it took so long for anyone to open an electronics store in Folsom. Now you cant turn around fast without smacking into one.

we already established that.

Yes I've been posting since the beginning on this.
I went in to buy a new computer a couple weeks ago.
No one offered help.
No one greeted us.
No one even asked us if we found what we needed when we left.
There was virtually NO ONE in the store ( in terms of customers ), yet employees wandering around.
Two minutes in Best Buy and had three sales associates asking if I needed help (when it was busy). I hate Best Buy, can't stand Circuit City even more (have never had a good encounter there at any stores, here or bay area or out of state) and will badmouth them as well.

They really do seem to swing between the extremes of smothering you in salesmanship or leaving you completely to your own devices.
Wait, that's a pun! ho ho ho
