You know you are correct. We have Stevethedad going to chick flicks and little swimmer boy whining for 2 weeks about his wisdom teeth. I know there are more examples. It may be time to move to Israel, at least they know how to kick some a**.

Just like in "Don't Mess with the Zohan"????

At what place will we find happiness? Until the last hundred years or so, the majority of people struggled just to eat, to survive. They would laugh at us being unhappy in our lives and not enjoying everything that we have. Instead, we find the petty little things to be unmovable mountains in the way of us reaching happy, when really it's inside each of us and we just won't let it out. We're wusses.

I have thought similar things many times. We have so many opportunities and so much provided for us and yet people seem to be more unhappy than ever. I guess it's all a matter of keeping things in perspective - what's REALLY important? And let the rest go!

I just did the same report for Sutter Street (600 block) and there were about 60 more incidents for Sutter than the Strikes area. I used to live in old Folsom, and wouldn't have made any derogatory comments about living in that area and being near drunk partying people after hours. Sure we noticed a little more noise than if there weren't any bars, but the trade-off of being walking distance was worth it.

Living near the old Ralph's building, I would have to say that I believe I will feel the same way if Strikes goes in there. And I have kids now.

Geesh. That was kind of my point. It seems that when Powerhouse Pub started getting popular on certain nights, especially when there is live music, that increased police presence was needed. I don't know the answer if that is also the case on live music nights at 2:00 a.m. at the Rocklin Strikes, but I think it's a valid question. And I do remember when the live music first started at Hacienda that nearby residents did complain and I believe there was somthing done with the hours the music could play. Strikes would probably be different because it's more indoors.

I am sure all these concerns can be addressed and taken care of. These are just questions I would ask so that compromises could be reached as CW68 mentioned above. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Before there is any petition-signing, the concerned residents should go to the planning commission and write to the council members and get their concerns addressed. The concerned Briggs Ranch residents should go to Strikes' Web site and look at the music venues listed for this summer there. They should pay a visit to the place when the night club closes up at 2:00 in the morning and see what things are like. Do some research before getting all worked up.

Another question would be, for example, if there is a popular band playing on a Saturday, is there adequate parking available in the center to handle it? If not, where would overflow parking go?

I am all for Strikes and have no problem that there is a bar located inside. I think the location is great for that business. They will draw not only Folsomites, but the El Dorado crowd as well.

On a separate note, I will say I think the Folsom Telegraph editor has gone 'round the bend as far as biased reporting is concerned. Even though I'm in support of Strikes, I've never seen more one-sided reporting in my history of receiving that paper. Last week he had a cartoon in the editorial section with the opposition holding a sign saying "Fun" with a circle and line drawn through it. This week another cartoon slamming the opposition along with a note from the editor slamming the opposition, resident comments slamming the opposition, an editorial letter in support of Strikes, and inaccurately reporting that it is only a bar and no mention of a night club with late hours all pretty much on the same page. Other comments are relegated to another page back. Not exactly fair and balanced.

Yeah, that was distressing, but a clear-cut indication of where we're headed as a society. As cw68 said, we're becoming wusses.

We're such a spoiled society, yet we don't even see it. It's all about instant gratification...me, me, me...gotta have it now...It's all about me...

I don't think many of today's youth have the foggiest idea how lucky they are. All they know is they've got their car...the latest cell phone or gadget...their "cool" clothes...their MySpace page...and their attitude.

And lousy grades in school.

When does it all come home to roost?? Stay tuned. Could get ugly...
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

great post! and I'm all for Strikes going into the old empty Raley's building too - it will be a very nice addition for the city of Folsom.

...as for that biased reporting by the editor of the Telegraph... he's just being another NIMBY because he probably lives nearby the place.... cracks me up how the folks who are opposed to it being put by their house are a-ok with it being put somewhere else instead. But the proposed location is by far the best choice and should stay that way

Anyone know when this place is scheduled to open?

Actually, davburr, the editor is very much in favor of Strikes. I just think a local paper would let both sides have an equal voice, especially since it's the residents that will be cancelling their subscriptions and not the bowling alley.

But thanks for agreeing with part of my post and not asking if I'm on Prozac. My worked-up posts are completely without the benefit of narcotic medication or buckets-o-beer.

oh gotcha (d'oh) - I've not read the article but I'm glad now to hear he's in support of it.... and I do agree - he should be letting both sides have an equal voice.

laugh.gif the prozac comments and buckets of beer are both equally hilarious - its funny watching a few commenters here going off on the zaniest things

Like you Said...
I do not know if this is properly attributed- but it is good any way---

Jay Leno on President Bush

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.
'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?''

A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

*edited for brevity and truth. This was not something spoken by Jay Leno, who is not a conservative, but by Craig Smith, a right-wing columnist on worldnetdaily.com

great article in the telegraph today...in support of strikes....on the EDITORIAL page, which is the only page in a newspaper that is designated to OPINIONS of the writers/staff/editors....so it is ok to be one-sided and biased on that page.

completely agree with the suggestion for the 'opposer' to go visit strikes in rocklin at 2 a.m. and THEN come back and whine, possibly someone might be willing to listen to you at that point. until then maybe i'll start a petition to APPROVE the joint (no pun intended!) so i can order up my bucket o' beer!!!

No - CW's post was on topic and mine was as well - Some Folsomites just get overly reactive to any change - logical or not and then try to make a case out of it without even understanding the situation.

I would hope that the meetings- when they happen at city hall will be attended by as many or more of those that support Strikes than those that do not---

People need to grow up and NIMBY whiners need to get a clue ...

I disagree. Of course the editor's opinion piece is meant to be biased, but when it comes to the letters to the editor they usually try to have both points of view represented. And two cartoons in a row on the same subject with the same slant??? Is there no other news in Folsom right now?

Even though I don't think they are going about it the right way, the Strikes opposers have a right to have their concerns expressed. The editor could have put the letter with the alternate viewpoint first since the page was so one-sided. But, hey, it's their small local paper and if they want to purposely tick off a 100 or so residents, that's their business.

So maybe you can bring me up to speed. Is Jay Leno in support of Strikes in the old Ralph's/Albertson's location or against?

What do kids' lousy grades and Prozac have to do with this topic?

Your post seemed more world and national politics than local is all.
