And I'm sure she (or her parents) won't be able to pay the $ award so it's another moot point. How frustrating.
I agree, this is completely unreal - she just got away with DUI and nearly killing two people and she didn't even get a slap on the hand....
our failed justice system just taught her that its no big deal to drive drunk - very frustrating!

You are so right about that Dav. I was thinking about this last night. If it was an adult, white male with no record they'd be sitting in a jail cell for a long time.

I agree with both of the above, she should be forced to see what happens to victims of drunk drivers and I hope the 2 ladies go after her for their pain & suffering in civil court.

Please explain.
what would she not like?
Citizens wanting the justice system to treat all criminal activity with the same or equal punishments for the same crime--regardless, of race, gender, creed or religion?
Perhaps she feels that the citizens are villifying the criminal for causing permanent injury to her?
Perhaps she thinks that the citizens are observing how the justice system has not prevailed and is merely turning her away from her ability to focus on recovery--rather with a bitter anger?
The latter I could understand.
however, the citizens have a right to make observations and certainly I would be appalled if people did not consider her attacker (yes a dui hit with a vehicle is an attack, certainly if she had died the lady would have faced manslaughter with a weapon) as having received a just punishment.
I earnestly do not feel this conversation is about disrespect. Rather, through anger at a failed justice system; it appears that all these citizens are attempting to do the one thing that the justice system has not done.
They have humanized-the victim.
And if you do know Kathi Sturgeon--please let her know, that I am whole heartedly rooting for her to recover fully.

No, but I was making a point that sometimes the justice system favors the rich and sometimes EDH county leans towards the white. I could be so wrong in my assumptions, BUT I was just posing a question. I should have made an even more gemeral assumption (and sanitized it for your consumption) which is if you have $$$$ (regardless of your race/ethnicity), you will have access to a dream team of defense lawyers to defend your son/daughter/spouse/family member and with that great represnetation, they can get a lighter sentence.
