he was a flawed man like most of us and his live was also a love story. the success of the movie says to me that lots and lots of folks feel the same way about him
if we had the name on the bridge it would draw tourists and there might even be a chance to have some kind of festival called " johnny cash days" at the rodeo grounds with beer and country western music

This kid is amazing - it's so hard to believe how young he is when you hear him sing Ring of Fire http://www.katu.com/...t...deo=pop&t=a

For the person who suggested inviting Roseanne Cash to the opening of the bridge, in her communication of the family's support, she indicated that she and her siblings would be honored to attend.
Aside from being one of the best places to live in the US, for all the reasons we all know, the City of Folsom is somewhat of a household name, not only in the US, but in Europe as well. The City is recognizable to people because of Folsom Prison and that recognition is entirely because of Johnny Cash. I believe we should celebrate that fact and stop pretending Folsom Prison does not exist.

I can understand the arguments against Johnny Cash, and those should perhaps be revisited, but to me the priority is to fix the mistake of a naming a bridge after a lake that it does not cross.

If people are already driving to Folsom to see the prison, how many more would drive to see a bridge that has nothing to do with him? Its not a famous bridge like Chappaquidic?
Maybe you should get the Chamber to do a better job or promoting the prison, since that is what Cash is known for?
There is a gas shortage and wasting gas driving across some dam Bridge that has nothing to do with Cash is simply wasteful. Besides we already have enough traffic on our bridges.
Naming the dam Bridge after Johny Cash would be nothing more than a cheesey publicity stunt and I'm glad the council had enough class to avoid going there!

That is probably the best argument I have seen. I agree.

Agreed. It's 'style over substance', if you ask me.
Normally that's a Liberal thing...but that's another thread.

Do you have any suggestions for more appropriate names? Or are you just going to huff and puff about how much more right you are than those who are actually trying to be productive?
No offense, of course.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

Perhaps folks coming from Roseville/Granite Bay/Rocklin/Sacramento driving down Douglas to Folsom-Auburn Rd will take that bridge to get into Folsom - not everyone drives on Hwy 50 to get here. Never heard of Chappaquidic bridge what is that famous for and where is it?
Maybe you should get the Chamber to do a better job or promoting the prison, since that is what Cash is known for?
Sorry Robert but that's a weak argument. the bridge will actually SAVE time and gas as its a shortcut to Granite Bay/Roseville/Rocklin etc...
Sorry Robert but I disagree - when I have visitors in town - I almost always take them to see the prison that they KNOW Folsom is very famous for - in fact, 10 out of 10 of the latest visitors we've had over the past few years have asked me to show them the prison
Like it or not, Folsom is mainly known because of that prison - for the one or two people out there who don't know that - they must be living under a rock to never have heard of Folsom Prison or Johnny Cash playing there and making a song about it

or if they don't give a crap what it's named - then don't bother commenting against those of us who would like to see it have a better - more sane name
I also agree - even if it's not named after Cash - something, anything would be better then the current choice which makes no sense whatsoever because it DOES NOT CROSS FOLSOM LAKE - that's actually very embarrassing that name was chosen because it doesn't look very intelligent due to the fact it makes no sense whatsoever.

The fact that without any publicity, people come to Folsom to see the prison and seek out the Johnny Cash connection only proves that if we were to publicize this connection, and name the bridge after him, more people would come, and the theory is, they'd spend money at Folsom businesses while here.
Maybe you should get the Chamber to do a better job or promoting the prison, since that is what Cash is known for?
I agree. They should do a better job of it, not just with the prison, but connecting him to the city itself.
There is a gas shortage and wasting gas driving across some dam Bridge that has nothing to do with Cash is simply wasteful. Besides we already have enough traffic on our bridges.
People 'waste' money to drive across the country to see the Golden Gate Bride, or across town to see the Kings, or to Sutter Street for Thursday Night Market. We can't tell them how to spend their gas money.
Naming the dam Bridge after Johny Cash would be nothing more than a cheesey publicity stunt and I'm glad the council had enough class to avoid going there!
When it comes to a statement like that, it does make me wonder how it would be perceived. I know that millions of Johnny Cash fans would love it, but would it seem silly to the rest of the country? Would they care? Should we care? Do we take ourselves too seriously?

I'm not against renaming it. I just don't agree that the bridge will bring more tourists or Johnny Cash fans. It's been mentioned over and over that we're already well known because of the prison and Johnny Cash.

Well-known is one thing, marketing is another, and even if it only brings in a few extra visitors a year, it will still make news, keeping Folsom on folks' minds as a place to visit, do business and live.
