I can not agree with Terry any more !!! Papa Giannis's is worth every mile you might drive!! no kidding. My wife says to me that if I am within a ten mile radius of the locale, I had better stop and bring home some lasagne... oohh my goodness.. it is fantastic....

I also use canned tomatoes, but I usually try to purchase San Marzano imported from Italy.. about a close as one can get to authentic...just my input....

Unless you are using farm fresh or ripe from your own vine tomatoes, canned is preferable to those sold in the stores. The ones sold in the stores aren't quite ripe when they're picked and are often gassed. Canned tomatoes, on the other hand, are picked vine ripe -- too ripe to ship -- and are immediately canned.
