build it up as big as you want...reality is, the young man weighed 120 lbs. His family called the PD to get him help. If the officers that arrived on the scene could not handle the situation, they should have called in someone that could.

I'm not building it up. We were not there. We don't know what happened. We do know that people who are not in their right mind can be dangerous and that the Folsom cops don't have a 'shoot first' reputation.

+1

Nobody is saying this wasn't a terrible thing that happened.

The REAL reality is none of us were there. We all have the freedom to debate what could have should have, or might have happened from behind our computers....in a nice safe environment.

How does it happen that a man holds his family hostage with a gun, leads law enforcement on a high speed chase from Sacramento to Truckee, and the scenerio ends up peacefully...but a concerned family calls the police for help because their relative is troubled and has a pocket knife...and he ends up getting killed?

I'm not sure if your willing to understand this....but these were two completely different situations. It doesn't matter what the scenario is....different variables will modify the outcome. The recent shooting in Pittsburgh that resulted in three officers getting killed was called in as an argument about a dog peeing on the carpet. Again...different variables....different outcome.

One thing that is certain is that none of us were at any of these incidents.

..but you weren't there. I respect your right to have an opinion and completely understand your frustration at this very tragic incident. I just wish you could appreciate what you don't know about what happened Sunday morning.

small towns are not a good place to be crazy, I remember a story last year I think in woodland where the police had to tazer a mental patient to death.

You cannot die from being tazed

This wasnt a pocket knife, it was a camping knife with 8 inches of cutting power. Although, every knife is a dangerous knife, I still cannot understand why people are not supporting our police officers. My offer is still up about one of the non supporters to face off with a knife weilding schizo.

Wow. Tragic. So very sad.

This situation with the Folsom PD and the young man is also tragic; sometimes, life is just tragic. I won't even presume to know what those involved are going through now.

Perhaps while none of us can understand what happened or why, we can all pray that the young man who died is in a better place. And unless, it's proven that the FPD acted with malice, tragic as the situation is, I'd prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt. The alternative is unthinkable.

I will say this. I'm not a cop, nor do I play one on TV. I can shoot a dime at 7 yards. But if someone were approaching me with a knife, I wouldn't aim for 'disabling' but rather center mass. I can appreciate a cop not taking chances. They take chances on a regular basis (some neighborhoods more than others). Sooner or later, your luck runs out. I won't begrudge a cop who has a stronger duty to his wife and kids than to risk injury to himself.

Wanna try an experiment? Come take me down. All I have is a knife... thats what i thought...

I'll do it.

Me and my partner will be there wearing Kevlar vests, you haven't eaten for 3 days and are tired and weak; we'll plug you with a Taser, then maybe we'll use our billy club or maybe pepper spray before we shoot you in the legs. That sounds like fun to me!
