Wow. Didn't realize I had that much power. Geez.

I was just playing.....

The asshat thing was getting veritibly boring and painful on the eyes 'cause I keep going back and re-reading it to see if I read it wrong--and then thinking"jeez, what's up with that? Someone can't misspell without me mentally editing it?"

So, I threw a mental cog in the wheel to derail my own personal weaknesses and hopefully change the course of the conversation so that I no longer see the word asshat in this thread.

Doh......Dang it biggrin.gif

this I can definitely say was my fault... I really gave far more second chances to people than I should have. Someone would be an asshat, I'd IM them, they'd promise to be cool, and about a week later they're being an asshat again.

Giving people the benefit of the doubt and second chances is never wrong.

I'm sorry that some have been asked to leave, I'll miss both of them.

No, since a) "closed-minded regurgitator" (CMR) is more of a descriptive term and not a name, and b) I just said I dislike that type of person and did not label a specific person a CMR.

I'd bet on "yes". Moderators are just one of us and are not some super being that isn't allowed to participate, have an opinion, or take a side. Even when they need to delete a post that broke the rules, it's still possible that they also agreed with the post.

I was just simply trying to make a point with regards to your post and the term CMR.

What is the difference between a descriptive term and a name?

If someone calls me a bald Italain are they using a descriptive term or are they calling me a Name?

If someone calls someone else a dumb asshat SOB, are they using a descriptive term or calling them a name?

If someone uses a slur towards someone else is that a descriptive term or calling them a name?

Imo, using a descriptive term is simply a PC attempt at name calling and really is one in the same?

Great points!

Same can be said for Davburr, John, Cvander, Cybertano, CW, and countless others. We agree on some things, not so much on others (Msgt's love of 'Four Christmases' comes to mind!). There is dimention, depth, community, and diversity of opionion over a wide range of topics. For others, it's all about political sniping and the complaints that come with it.

I am glad the political section is shut down.

You read the post and saw the words "closed minded regurgitator'. Isn't that name calling and against the rules?

I'm pleased you support diversity of opinion, yet its almost like you contradict yourself in describing others being about political sniping and complaints. Aren't these people entitled to the same right as you are to express their opinions and beliefs about things.

There are sections of the forum I don't participate in or like, yet I can't imagine being happy if John shut that section down and took away the joy of those who participate in it.
If I don't like something, I just stay away and not try and impose my wishes onto others activities.

Guess I will pipe in as a long time poster and one of those that always tried to keep the political topics ON Topic with my ' attack the post - not the poster' and "think about it" ...

Of course this is a Discussion Board- but what is should NOT be is an ATTACK board allowing Ad-homien personal attacks as well as the generic once we all know about - It should be about topics and discussion about them...

Even though the players have changed in the last 5 years or longer that I have been here and I have been outspoken in the political arena - it has always pained me in that realm to see that so many posters were not talking rationally or with information about the Situation or topic- but just doing their lame best to attack anyone without their point of view- and that (point of view) even often was unknown as they would never debate an issue on facts or opinions- just try to bash the other side -

i also agree that none of the BS personal ad-homain- attacks can be considered discussion nor can they be considered as any value added to this forum...

Those that endlessly fluff their stuff without value on the political forum ( some but not all ) are not discussing anything local to this city, county or most times state and in fact are not really covering much ground nationally at all-

If the "some' were gone - then the political forum could actually be a cross communication of issues and counter issues...

Keep the bashing out of it and it might just survive...

Cheers
F500

I agree with what you are saying and generally always felt your posts added value, although I may not always agreed with your position.

Along with your suggesstions, I'd add that some MODs used their position of MOD to further an agenda by selectively enforcing rules. its understandable there might be a little of that going on, but there were occurrences where it was blatantly obvious to many.

That can't be allowed to continue.

Where have you been? We missed you!

FYI, they are crackin down on posters violating the rules so you don't be making assumptions that the lib was insensitive and unhappy.

John dumped all the old political posts, so all that A game stuff is gone forever, but some of us know you still got more left.

OK, now I got it. That is a different interpretation than what I was thinking.
Friends with redeeming qualities can occassionally have their head up their A$$, but true A-holes may have no redeeming qualities what so ever.

One of my favorite "polite" rewordings is we all know some one we call an F---ing A-hole,
I find the term "fornicating anal orifice" to be much more elegant. laugh.gif
