I agree, the plot was pretty predictable - it was the eye candy that made the movie so good. Some people are not impressed on eye candy - nothing wrong with that...

Then stating "if she was 15"...
She's been hating on this entire thread since the start and before she even seen the movie.

And I haven't seen Baby Genius's or Sharkboy... (look like F's to me) but Dumb and Dumberer got about a C+ from me as well. It was a stupid movie and knew it, but it also had some cleverness to it.
And as far as the being 15 part??? Well, this is a movie for young people, or people that haven't seen as many movies with the same plot as this. Is that so wrong? There's only so many stories to tell (I thought I was taught there were 7 basic stories in a Film Appreciation Class years and years ago) but if you tell them well, it's nice to hear them again.
And I don't think I'm bashing the movie, I've tried to say WHY I didn't like it, as opposed to just "it sucked." It's fine if you like the movie. I think most people WILL and DO like the movie. There's nothing wrong with that. I like plenty of movies that are not "good," but I don't pretend a movie *is* good, just because I like it.
But honestly, I'm not sure why I said anything at all. I try not to broadcast my opinions, as I don't think anyone cares. I guess I just got swept up in the hype, and wanted to vent.

Seriously? A C+? Not Dumb and Dumber, the original. Dumb and Dumber(er), the sequel. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 10%, with Critics giving it 3%.

Oh, you got me there. C+/B- for the original, D- for the sequel.

Thats the thing. I'm not 15, my mother certainly isn't 15 and neither are her sixty something year old siblings that went to the movie. They have all seen their share of movies and enjoyed it thoroughly.
I could care less about "Avatar" and if you liked it or not but its when your saying that a movie is for 15 year olds and inexperienced movie viewers or something that just gets under my skin a little. I just don't see why its necessary to state comments like that as being so descriptive of how terrible a movie was with your husband wanting to walk out and all. At that point it just feels as though your doing more then just reviewing a movie but actually putting other adults down who enjoyed it.
Dumb and Dumberer was rated a C from viewers being the 45th worst movie of all time according to yahoo movie ratings. Thats the only reason I chose that movie as an example. Do you REALLY think this movie belongs at the same level as that one? Even if it was a remake...
Either-way... its time I bite my tongue.

But why does your review give me a feeling that you not only seen to the movie to be able to hate on it but you also give a vibe of putting others down who enjoyed the movie.
You have rated that movie a C stating that you were being "generous". That rating is down there about with "baby genius's", "shark boy and lava girl", "dumb and dumberer". So far the average out of 15,000 reviews on yahoo it is an "A". 14 Movie critics who would love nothing more but to tear this movie apart after all its claimed to be and their average is an "A-".
Not only that but you say you had to stop your husband half way through from walking out indicating that he felt the movie was such trash he couldn't bare it anymore.
If you would have rated it a B- I would have thought you gave it a fair try and just didn't enjoy it but you seem to have some sort of childish motivation behind disliking this movie and I feel sorry that you would waste $20 or so just to show that to everybody.
JLS--no offense--you kinda made Mrs tuftpaws-point--if you are gonna compare Avatar to baby genius, sharkboy and lava girl, or dumb and dumberer:::
Those were by far the most elementarian stupid films of all time. Not only was there absolutely nothing in them as far as interesting animation (compared to other films out at the same time), the dialogues sucked wind, the characters blowed torches and the only people who thought them funny enough to watch at a theatre and then go buy the actual film were pimply faced teens who had no sense and prolly didn't earn the money they "borrowed" to buy the dvd.
OK---so...now you know how I felt about those three movies...
Too bad....if you had compared Avatar to Star Wars and given Avatar a C, I might have gone and seen it.

I think JLS was saying it's not accurate to compare Avatar to Sharkboy and Lava Girl or the like. I don't think they are comparable either.
It's cool if Mrstuffpaws didn't like it. There have been plenty of movies raved about on here that I didn't care for either. I get her point about the plot and how the movie was probably way longer than it should have been. I think they just wanted to show off the visual effects and since I found them pretty great, I didn't mind so much.
Now, has anyone else here seen the animated movie "Fern Gully"? Do you think the plots are very similar?

You of all people should know that some films are meant for the big screen over home tv viewing, but then again maybe you've never seen a film in 3D? - FYI, Captain E.O. was state of the art at the time and frankly, it was the last really good 3D film before this one.
I guess you haven't watched any of the cartoon 3D movies lately, or is it just the kid in me that likes cartoons. I thought UP was great, and 3D really enhanced the cliff views and stuff.

While I might not agree with MrsTuffPaws opinions on movies, and maybe her comments were a little condescending, her comments were not directed at any particular forum member.
I'm sorry I can't say the same thing with regards to JLS.

Glad you liked the movie, the DVD is wrapped under my Xmas tree right now.
I'm convinced that 3D is worth the extra money at the theaters now, so when there is a new movie out I want to go see, I'll always be checking to see if there is a 3D version.
I'm wondering how long it will take for home TV's to have 3D capabilities, I consider it an inevitability someday, probably the closest we will get to a holodeck in our lifetime is 3D TV.
