Could it be that he is neither and only chooses "what he is" based on the audience he's trying to impress ?

The problem with that statement is that he has never claimed to be anything but Christian. He doesn't pretend to be a muslim around muslims, jew around jews and christian around christians.

Funny you should mention that, our dear Pres wants to take away all tax write-offs, including for all non-501©3 charities (& churches). That doesn't sound like a very nice thing for our "Christian" president to do, does it?

Truly curious and not picking a fight, but why is this not a good thing for a "Christian" to do?

I was coming from this perspective. People who are solid in their faith as christians make decisions based upon that faith. If there is a conflict between what they perceive to be God's plan for their life, the christian will usually follow God's plan. If they don't, then there may be consequences to pay that will, hopefully, bring them back into agreement with God's plan. Like the prodigal son (or daughter).

For example, if I believe God wants me to stay in a job, but the pressures & the conflict of that job are too difficult for me to handle. And I change jobs to something I think is better, then most likely I will encounter the very same conflicts, but, could be on an escalated scale at the new job. It may be that the purpose of staying in the old job was that I was supposed to be talking to God about my troubles, and asking God to show me what to do, &/or to carry me when I thought it was impossible. There is a verse that says, "I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me." There's other verses that talk about casting all our cares upon God (giving them to him), because he loves us, and is able to help us through whatever trouble we are going through.

In my experience, a solid christian's faith will guide every decision he/she makes. I really don't know if it is possible to separate one's faith, IF, they are truly grounded in the faith, from other pursuits, such as politics. I hear so many politicians say their personal beliefs will not affect their professional opinion, decisions.....I don't see how they could possibly do that, especially in politics, since that requires making lots of promises to different groups that have a conflict of beliefs with each other. I think it's really easy to change alliances in politics, and people who once had a strong faith in God, frequently switch that faith to the god of politics (power).

Thinking of all the politicians (since I've been paying attention), all those who claimed to be "Christian" regardless of political party, I can't remember a single one touching the so-called "church tax shelter". I don't even know if tax shelter is the right word....since the non-501©3 category covers all government-designated charities. There are some people who even question GWB brand of christianity, but he promoted the faith-based tax shelters for churches to provide public service...in answer to the very same questions I hear so loudly here, "why doesn't the church help..?"

Bottom line, IMO, if the man really is a solid christian, then I would expect him to support the "church."

Why does anyone but the affordable housing advocates have to pay for any it?

Not only do the affordable housing advocates not have to pay for this, They (Legal Services of Northern California) are receiving tax payer funding to file lawsuits like this. It would be nice to see this group lose it's tax payer funding which it should not have had to begin with.
