Hi, cybertrano,

QUOTE
We went to the Thai Cuisin Restaurant at the corner of Folsom and Greenback. I give it a B+

That would be Amarin Thai Cusine . Their original restaurant is in downtown Sac. They opened that Folsom location last November.

We've been there 3 times since they opened. I think a B+ is about right. I'd have given them an A- if it weren't for the fact that when we ordered brown rice the last time we were there, we weren't warned that they charge $3.50 per (small) serving. Ouch.

I think Thai Siam is slightly better, but they're both very good.

Ken

Yes it's Amarin, Ken. We do intend to be back. I liked everything, but my wife said the curry chicken is a little plain. I also like the way they elegantly decorated the inside of the restaurant.

I drove by that shopping center many times since 1991 and this was the first time we actually spent time there....... tongue.gif

Thai Basil of Roseville is the only one that's better, but too far......

A friend of mine and I went to Gigi's yesterday for dinner.

Wow, ohmy.gif that place is pricey! $15.xx for Ravioli?? huh.gif

Be prepared to eat outside on the patio if you don't have a reservation even if the place is empty. wink.gif

I wasn't very impressed with the food or the service. I ordered a seafood pasta dish and my plate was full of a ton of pasta and not much seafood. sad.gif The shrimp bisket soup was okey. We waited 30 minutes for the waitress to give us our ticket and another 20 minutes to get our credit card back. I was not impressed at all.

The Italian dishes at Strings is so much better and the price more reasonable. The service is also top notch!

We've eaten at Gigi's several times. While another post here indicated some disappointment, our experience at Gigi’s has been excellent. The food was fresh, tasty and different from other fine Folsom restaurants. Yes, the prices are on the high side but somewhat comparable to Scott's and I think Cliff House. The location is less than satisfying but the environment inside is very nice. The bar area is small but the drinks are generous and done well. Give it a try.

cybertrano & all,

Mea culpa! We again had lunch at the very good Asian Seafood Buffet in Roseville ... and discovered that, as cybertrano had said all along, there is no relationship between it and the new Asia Restaurant buffet in Folsom.

It turns out that Asia Restaurant's sister restaurant in Roseville is also called Asia Restaurant. It is located about 1/2 mile west (I believe that's west) of Asian Seafood Buffet, on the opposite side of Galleria Blvd, in something called Creekside Town Center, right across from the Galleria.

So, sorry for any confusion I may have caused, but I'm happy to at least now understand why the two restaurants (the one in Folsom, and the one in Roseville we thought was related to it) seemed so different -- they are! rolleyes.gif

We went to L'Orchid tonight to have some traditional Vietnamese food. It was very good. I would recommend you all.

9411 Madison Ave., Orangevale

My wife was ecstatic because finally she got a Vietnamese restaurant close by.

I took my wife to Gigi's Cafe in the Bel Air shopping center last night for her birthday dinner.

We both had great meals and desserts. Listened to the piano, had a great player there last night.

We had the best of service. They were very attentive, they didn't miss a lick.

They have a great chef!!!

Check it out!!!

It is one of the French restaurants you can afford to go to in Folsom. I have not been to Christophs as it is was out there expensive.

It's interesting to see the mixed reviews on Sol Azteca. We've been there twice and both times had poor service and mediocre food. There was nothing specifically wrong with the food, it just had no differentiation of tastes of the ingredients and generally lacked flavor. We sat with empty water glasses for at least 15 minutes and then had to wait another 15-20 minutes to get our credit card back after giving it to the waiter for the check. I'm a big Mexican food fan, so I really wanted to like the place (that's why we went twice), but I just can't stand it.

Conversely, I've been to Bidwell Street Bistro a number of times and have been nothing but impressed. I never considered myself a French food fan, but one taste of the muscovy duck confit and I was sold!

A Thai/French restaurant I like to go to is Mints in Rancho across from Mervyns. They are usually pretty busy at lunch but there is rarely any waiting at dinner. Service is good too. I used to eat their ginger crusted salmon all the time but I guess I won't be doing that much anymore.

My wife took me out to dinner tonight. My birthday. We went to Scotts Seafood on Greenback.

We have gone to Scotts Seafood in San Jose, Mountain View and here in Folsom. We have never had a bad meal and have always had great service.

I used to go to Scott's at the Embarcadero in SF. I tried the one here only a couple of months ago. It's been great the 4 times I've been there since.

Happy Birthday. Mine is next Friday!

Scott's has, in my humble opinion, the BEST seafood in the Folsom area. ALWAYS great service and food.....slightly costly but worth it!

MUCH better than that embarrassment known as the Cliff House.
