Its is the participation and presence that would make the difference. Setting the stage for calling out for bleachers. Geez... chill out

I am going to take that as a no you have not been to a Friday night game.  So basically you are speaking about something you have no first hand knowledge on correct?

Vista has hundreds of fans attending their games now, just at FHS.  Participation is not a problem, money is.

The Freshman team plays at Vista.  It's tough to watch a game because (1) the home and vistor fans share the same bleacher (on the visitor side) and (2) the bleachers are so low that, for the first few rows, you can't see over the players on the bench.

The JV and Varisty teams don't play at Vista because the bleachers can't handle the crowds at all.  it doesn't matter how many times you tell people to "participate" at Vista because JV and Varisty don't play at Vista.  Build it and they will come.  What a catchy phrase . . .

Folsom participation in Football is nearly on par with the football games I used to go to in Texas. Not just the night of games. Im talking about the traditions leading to the games, the parental and community involvement (well ok, FHS may be lacking in community involvement compared to Texas style), the school dances, the rallies, the whole shebang. Sorry, Vista just hasn't got there yet. I'm not saying they don't deserve it, or that the team doesn't play hard enough, or the parents don't attend games. Its just not the same kind of atmosphere. I don't know if bleachers would make a difference on that. Maybe. If your just talking about space and packing 'em in.

Ans sure a new highschool is gonna have some glitches like --- running out of money and never building bleachers. I don't know. Instead of slamming FHS for coming up with a great idea that funded their field, maybe we should be coming up with a great idea to fund bleachers.

Sounds like a good idea for the Folsom Alumni Association, if they have one. You would think they could get some fund raisers going, and make donations, to have more bleachers built, if there is room for them.

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

How do you know what it's like at Vista? Do you attend there? Do you have kids there? Do you work there?

If you've never once been to a Vista HS football game why do you make statements such as: "sorry, vista just hasn't gotten there yet".  You've never attended a single game so you don't have any idea what is going on there so why is it necessary for you to make statements like this?

Sorry but it sounds to me (and others) like you're putting Vista down unnecessarily and I don't think it's fair for you to make statements about that school and their football team since you've never once stepped foot on campus.

The way I read it, she's the one slamming Vista - claiming they are not nearly as good as FHS

The builders obviously didn't think it through when building the school so there should be some "cell tower money " going toward that

It wasn't the builders fault. Their responsibilities for infrastructure are negotiated by the city.

In addition, there was some question as to whether a cell tower couild go in at VDL.  In a 11/1/2005 Citizens Oversight Committee meeting it was mentioned by one member:

"Vista Del Lago may not be able to benefit from cell towers due to the site elevation and the houses located too close to the stadium field area."

It amazes me how defensive people are about this topic.  Wow, take a pill and relax.  Years ago, when Boise St. chose the blue field it was discussed that along with the color of their home uniforms, it gave them an 'unfair' advantage to opposing teams.  Many of the opposing coaches from non-conferences started to require the Broncos to start wearing their away jerseys so they wouldn't blend into the field as much.

I also have a feeling there is much more community involvement and participation with FHS because of their recent success on the field.   Their field was old.  It was breaking down.  They did have to replace it.  They chose the blue.  Back in the day, the blue fields, along with some recent red ones, were cheaper than the standard green.  Does anyone have an idea how much MORE the blue field was vs. the green?

I think it was mentioned that Vista has just as many scouts and success stories of their players going on to prestigious 4 year schools.  Who?

Hoping somebody finds out how much extra the blue turf cost.  I just ran over there with my daughter at lunch to check it out (it's VERY blue) and she's more concerned about getting more than a few minutes with her counselor, library services more than a few hours a week, and current computers than she is about what color the field is.  What are the priorities?

Who says I've never been to a game? My kids have attended both HS.

I feel I have a pretty good handle on the school spirit/morale and pride as well as sport (and many other clubs) participation.

Go ahead and be Sorry. You are the one making assumptions.

That wasn't meant towards you specifically. More or less towards "you" the people thinking FHS is getting all the funding.
This comes down, I think. to opportunity- expiration of field contracts, decent management of a long term goal and maintaining those funds for a targeted expenditure. The last two, btw, is quite impressive given the state of money shuffling that goes on in school districts.

The question is around have you attended a VISTA game since that's where you keep saying they are lacking spirit/support and if you've ever been to a game at VISTA.

It's not too hard to make assumptions when seeing you twice avoid randb's questions asking if you've ever been a game.

I like my anonymity. I also love many, many things about Folsom. The people, the wildlife, the concerts in the parks, the tiny zoo by the library....

What I've never liked about small towns- people like you that are pushy and snappy, judgmental and try your best to force a pissing match into every conversation that pops up. For the second time on this thread.... Chill out.

My daughter is on the soccer team at FHS and she said the field was fine (in my opinion Kemp is in way worse shape), one of the best she played on during the season.  Her soccer friends agree with her.  They aren't really happy about that much money being spent on the field especially when teachers are constantly asking for funds.  They also say that the school is very supportive of football but not for soccer at all.  It's hardly ever mentioned in the bulletins or urging folks to go watch the games.  I understand that football brings in $$ but the team support should be there for ALL teams not just football.
