but Folsom would just be another Merced or Rocklin if Mr Cash had not come by... The prison, the Visit, the concert and the song has brought millions to know our city from around the world. And it has brought a high level of tourists dollars with it. I think the trail heads were a brilliant idea to integrate Mr. Cash and our heritage prison for the public to see...
I haven't participated yet on this topic...I like Johnny Cash and he has an amazing testimony. The plans look interesting, while the bridge serves a functional purpose, it does seem to be rather large, rather overbearing. I think the architecture if fine, it just looks huge from the pictures. I haven't driven out that way recently.
But I disagree that Folsom would be another Rocklin or Merced with Johnny. Seriously! I'm laughing... IMO, those are crazy comparisons, especially Merced. Our topography alone, access to the American River Pkwy and the interwoven trail system make Folsom shine far above either Rocklin, or gag, Merced which has virtually nothing going for it except a new state college campus. Have you ever been there? It's a hole in the wall. Flat. Terrible weather. Yea, I grew up around there. Ugly. Nada. A pit stop along a boring highway.
When non-Folsomites that I know talk about Folsom, very few people mention Johnny. So while he may be well known nationally or world-wide, it's not a big deal with locals. Actually, I've only heard visitors inquire.

Locals, yes, I agree. However, I'm not from California and have friends and family all over the country, plus I travel. I'd say a good majority of the time when I mention that I live in Folsom Johnny Cash and/or Folsom Prison is mentioned.

Did I read that correctly, a 40 foot statue of the "man in black" ? Why? isn't a trail and bridge overcrossing named after him enough.

The idea was to have art installations along the trail. The city put out a call to artists and selected the best from the proposals.
The statue, a 'ring of fire' sculpture, a granite wall, and guitar necks sticking out of the ground are among the pieces likely to be installed.

There were actually two artists selected. The other one, Rotblatt-Amrany, was selected for one of the pieces, the 40-ft statue (on a 10-ft pedestal), planned for the future park at the corner of East Natoma and Folsom Lake Crossing.. The Romo studio was selected for the others. Romo was at the bridge opening. Rotblatt-Amrany (out of Chicago) was not.
