QUOTE(stevethedad @ Jul 6 2005, 03:37 PM)

My friend is going to send his child to an Islamic school. He said, "I want to make a decent human being out of him".  My friend says that there at Islamic schools, kids are taught morals, modesty, and to respect their elders and authority."

This reminds me of something my old Comparative Religion professor said (he was a Sikh) about there being any one common teaching or message you can take from all religions. He said there's this one (the most important one):

If you are a Christian, be a good Christian. If you are a Jew, be a good Jew. If you are a Muslim, be a good Muslim. If you are Sikh be a good Sikh. Whatever you are, just be good.

Deep but basic stuff.

1.3 billion Muslims are not out to get you. This is not about Islam vs. Christianity. That was the objective that Osama Bin Laden was trying to accomplish - and to accomplish it through fear.

It looks like he has psychologically beaten many of the folks responding on this thread.

If 1.3 billion anyone was out to get our 1 million American soldiers this war would be over already folks.

This kind of thinking is just par for the course. During WWII if you were Japanese, well, in interment camps you go. No matter that they were American Japanese.

If there is a next strike anytime in the future, I hope it's a blonde haired, blue eyed Swedish terrorist so we can lock up every blond haired, blue eyed American.

Anyone know much about the crusades? I'm not the religious type so I don't know much about it, but it seems apropo to this discussion.

Yes, and those synagogues and churches are empty. They exist only becuase of the governments of the countries are afraid of any reprisal.

Care to offer any FACTS to that statement- surely you will find your error once you start checking

Survey, i would gladly do it but i would probably get security called on me for disturbing the workers. If you want anymore proof of the true feelings of muslims.
Try and remember what happened in most muslim countries after 9/11. There was celebrating. American flag burning.

You talk abou tolerance. Just consider the people you are defending. They wouldnt mind sliting your troat. Just face it. Stop denying it, Muslims are not the kind of people you want building a religious building in our city. We dont need another school for terrorists.

I am NOT defending the terrorists-- I hate them as much or more than you do..
I am VERY well versed on those groups and organizations that created and carried out the 9/11 attack- but I do not take an entire population and lump them in with the terrorists of any group- Black Panthers, Italian Mafia, Russian Mafia, white supremists, KKK, etc- as they are but a minor part of their respective populous....
Even Bushco( and most of the country) does not have the racial bias that you express-- Although I dont like being in Iraq( a different thread) why would we be spending Billions of dollars ( at the expense of the greater needs mind you- including Kyoto , Africa and mostly America) for a country that is 99% muslim... ??

I would rather a Muslim mosque anytime over a new evangelical right wing christian church....

Really? All of them? The little kids and grandmas and Kareem Abdul Jabaar and Hedo Turkoglu and Shaquille O'Neal (he's a throat-slitter too huh? I'll put that on my list of reasons I don't like him - right above that dumb genie movie he made)? The NBA is a sleeper cell? And the guy who sells me lottery tickets? Oh sure, he seems so nice with his whole "here's your change" and "have a nice day" and "boy it sure is hot today", but inside he's a seething ball of Islamic hate who counts the days before he can get a mosque here in town because, of course, he can't properly plan to cut my throat without having a nice building to do it in?

There is just no swaying you. you just do not understand that they all carry the same mentality. if not 1.3 billion of them then 1 billion of them do. many just simply arent crazy enough to do something radical. its their mentality that bothers me. the fact that if they could they would celebrate a terror bombing if not participate in one.

That is crap and you should know that if you are semi educated and an adult....
What you saw was small cells that the media sought out of Anti - american groups-- did you see how few there really were in those streets ? Did you hear that they were groups of 100 to 1000 and no more ?? If not - you need to go back and check your facts---

'THEY ALL' do not carry the same mentality- just as any other fanatical group does not carry with it the will and concience of the majority of its people--
If this was true- you would be dead by now along with many of the rest of us.....

It is like saying that ALL BLACKs Hate whites for the shame and humiliation of slavery.
or all Jews Hate ALL Germans for what Hitler did, or all Americans hate Bushco for what he hasnt done ... or you name it... or you fill in the blanks...
you are spouting a severe unwarranted racial bias that has no place in todays society-
Call the Taliban and Al-queda the murderers that they are, but do not for an instant tell me my Iranian , Indian and Iraqi neighbors are part of this....

cheers

Dude, are you talking about Christians or Muslims? Or just religious people in general?

Last I counted, the US has killed a lot more Muslims than they've killed Americans.

hmm, what im trying to get through is that when something happens like a terror attack, they are not displeased with the happenings...lets put it that way? so i dont want that in my city. a mosque will only make their population grow...who know what kind of things may come from it

dude- if you read the papers or even this thread you would know that the Mosque is and has been here in Folsom for many years- this is but a new permanent location for it....
Got it ??
and so what if more muslims use it than the existing ones- they are just driving their Japanese or American cars over from their mortgaged houses with 3 bed / 2 bath and a clean front yard with their 2.3 children on a friday after working for some American company paying their taxes and eating at Taco Bell- ...

So what ? the invasion from orangevale or Rancho wont inundate us with the types you seem to think....
You are too imaginative .....

Tell that to the Muslim woman in my office who watched the attack unfold on 9/11...she wept when they replayed the second plane hitting the building. Tell that to the Muslim man I work with who promptly enlisted in the U.S. Army following the attack. Do you really believe you know what all of these people felt about the attack?

Big brush you got there cowboy. It must get heavy.

Look - you can't get 100 humans to agree on anything, let alone 1 billion. You were aware, for example, in Iraq alone you've got three different muslim groups, all of whom fundamentally disagree on basic religious principles (among other things, specifically, who the rightful successor to Muhhamed was). But of course, they're all the same, aren't they? Sadly, it's mainly muslims who are the victim of terrorism these days, and you better hope that those Shiites continue to not retaliate against Sunni attacks on them and instead keep struggling to create a stable goverment and not give the Baathists the civil war they want. But again.... they're all the same to you, aren't they?

Here's a thought that should trouble you. Bin Laden wants a big holy war - a big end-time, beasts-lying-down-together, fiery Apocalyptic war to end all infidelity on earth (that's at least his rhetoric - whether he wants that or his is just a plain power-grab, I can't tell). To do this he needs to not only radicalize the muslim world, but the western world as well. He needs to foment race and religious hate not only in gullible and easily-manipulated muslims, but in gullible and easily-manipulated westerners as well. You're now at the point where you've gone from what was probably once just cautious suspicion to seriously believing one billion people, a sixth of all humanity, are evil. So far, it seems, all is going according to Bin Laden's plan, and these are the thoughts that keep him warm at night.

What would piss off Bin Laden more? A group of westerners distrusting muslims enough to drive them from their community with pitchforks and petitions? Or a group of westerners accepting muslims into the greater community as they have with all groups who have come before. In one case we give him ammunition, and in another we take it away.
