Manderes is the polar opposite. Friendly, engaging, attentive people behind the bar (albiet it's primarily the owners). It makes you feel comfortable and welcome.

I have to agree, of the times I've gone to Streets, its always been a hassle to get service... like you noted, its as if we're inconviniencing them.... I haven't read the Sac Bee review but it sounds like it was a fair analysis
Manderes is much better

Do either serve breakfast?
Nothing quite like a good breakfast and a double scotch to wash it down.

Streets does on Sundays, I think.
At Manderes you'll have to settle for scotch-ale at lunch.

Here is the review: http://www.sacbee.co...ory/727195.html
Seems like a reasonble review... While not the greatest food, it is hard to find pasties or bangers served elsewhere in Folsom. I appreciate it for the pub experience. Getting to know the bar tenders (visit enough) tends to improve service. I never get ice tea there.
"We liked the fresh-tasting fish and wolfed the well- seasoned french fries. The pot pie was hearty, with pieces of semitender beef and lots of sliced mushrooms in a dark, flavorful gravy. The curried chicken carried good heat, but the chicken showed up as thin, squiggly strips instead of bone-in pieces."
Sacramento News and Review had good (albeit much more brief) things to say in their best of 2007 issue.

Usually that's the case, but not with this place. For the most part, I like the place. I've been going there fairly regularly since it opened in its first incarnation as St. James Gate. There are a couple of the bartenders that I really like, however, they rest are rather surly. Bottomline - bad bartenders give bad service.
I once asked one of the folks that worked there why they continued to employ really bad bartenders. They said the owners didn't think they had to be too selective with who they hire, because as long as they had a great selection of beers, people would keep coming back.

19th century English novel, 5 words:
A PETTY AND HORRIFIC ROGUE
There's a third clue, the author, but it totally gives it away if you know his work. (We didn't and it was no help)
Pop singer, female:
