On another note... just got the Chevron bill today. In the past it has been as high as $500, this month $96 thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Pre Motorcycles, when we drove the car and the truck every day, we averaged $500 per month in gas.

When he rides, and I drive the car, it is about $200/month.

But now that he rides 1/2 the time, and BICYCLES the other 1/2....

WOW I love less then $100/month for gas! lmaosmiley.gif

Had a real nice ride today... unfortunately it looks like someone died again on Salmon Falls.

Salmon falls is a great road full of sweepers, straights and very tight twisties

The damn squids try and show off and take some of those corners way to fast and end up over compensating in teh corners and flying off the road, into fences, trees, rocks and such

People need to learn and understand their riding limits and stop trying to show off beyond their capability

bad things happen to the ignorant

I like Salmon Falls, but I don't like the traffic on it, to many cars and bikes. Not to much further up the hill I know of some very good, very scenic roads with no traffic at all. Much more fun.

CHP says lane splitting is "permissible". But it appears it's the motorcyclist's responsibility to take care. Like someone said before in this thread, if anything bad happens, it's the lane-splitter's fault.

It's definitely the rider's responsibility to ride safely and carefully. If you're going to ride between the rows of cars, you have to be very vigilant about whether those cars might decide to change lanes, whether the driver's are aware of your presence or whether there are any other factors that might force the drivers to squeeze closely together. If you fail to do this and you end up bumping into a car, then yes it's obviously your own fault. On the other hand, if a driver intentionally hits a lane splitting motorcyclist, I fail to see how that's the rider's fault.

If any of you guys want to see some cool stuff, and are not "new" riders. I have some great rides... Wentworth, to me is like Salmon Falls, to busy. It seems like someone dies on those roads every weekend that it is nice out.

All this discussion reminds me of the last Top Gear I watched. They took 3 light weight supercars out to find the "Worlds Best Driving Road"

Gorgeous stuff!

They ended up going down the side of a mountain in what, IIRC, was the Swiss Alps

"Recently, Porsche, Lamborghini and Aston Martin have all been putting their cars on crash diets. The slimmed-down results of their efforts come in the form of the 911 GT3 RS, Gallardo Superleggera and the V8 Vantage N24"
"Ah, yes, those Gucci extremists and their Prada jihad!" --ducky

just this morning on hwy 50 I had at least 8 lane splitting bikes breeze past me. I don't usually mind and usually I pull over a bit to help them get by. However, I noticed a lot of them coming up and sitting right behind my right rear bumper, making themselves invisible to me. That I hate. I can't see them, so who is at fault if I accidentally move within my own space in my own lane and bump one, ending in an injury. I surely don't want anyone to be injured. I also don't want the added liability to myself by someone else putting themselves in harmsway.

If you're going to split and pass someone, then pull behind them first to be sure they see you and then make your move when its safe. don't hang where you are invisible and then move forward. and when you move forward, keep going.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

As a motorcycle rider, I can't stand when I see other riders riding in cars blind spots... that is just asking for trouble.

..a good rider knows where a drivers blind spots are and how to avoid them.

whenever coming up behind someone - I watch their review mirrors to make sure they see me before trying to pass them
