Here is a Circuit City Death Watch site that you can look back at and see how it all got to this point.

http://consumerist.c...ity-came-undone

I'm not sure how this store opened in Folsom at that particular location in the first place.
Maybe if it had opened in another location like the Best Buy shopping center or even in the middle of town next to Walmart, it would have had more traffic.
You can't even see it from East Bidwell where it is is now.

It's kind of a small building and even so, it is mostly empty when I went in.
They must be wasting alot of money with opening this store. They must have known it had little chance of success there. I wonder if they just opened it because it was too late when they realized it was doomed it would have cost more to cancel it and break contracts than to just go ahead and complete opening it.

I went to the Folsom "The City" a couple of hours ago and it was the busiest it has ever been, but considering this is Black Friday, it wasn't really that crowded. It was still less crowded than Costco is on a typical Saturday morning.
The parking lot was about 50% full instead of 20% full.

The selection was still very poor. I was going to look at a Slingbox, but they didn't have the most current models.

Do or die is coming this Friday, January 16th.
Circuit City says they are talking to two very interested buyers to do a sale of the company.
However, if the deal doesn't go through by this Friday, they say they are going to liquidate and this will be the end of the company.

I cant believe CC has made it this far. They have always had poor service provided by uneducated punks with super high prices. I walked into the folsom store here not long ago looking for some headphones. What a joke that store was. The displays looked like trash, poor selection and like always, prices way higher than competition. Also, so much for the price in the store is the same as the internet. The headphones I was looking at was on sale online. The price in the store was double. I asked if they would sell it for the price online and they said no.

I think this topic should be moved into a poll of:

What will the CC building be after they close, because in my opinion its not a matter of if but when.

Since they have two potential buyers looking, maybe they will be saved.
Otherwise, maybe a SuperStarbucks (Starbucks with a grocery store inside it with another Starbucks inside that) or a 99 cent store.

We really need a Sears here in Folsom but that would be too small for a Sears.

Maybe a motorcycle superstore. It can carry 4-5 brands of bikes. Make it Honda, Triumph, Motto Guzzi, Victory and KTM. Carry a boat load of accessories, helmets, jackets, etc...

I would be there like everyday. Of course since I have to drive up the hill to get home, my wife may not approve. If you build it, we will come.....

In all seriosuness, even if CC gets more funding it will be only a matter of time before they burn through that and die like they have needed to do for so long unless a major overhaul comes along. When I say overhaul, they may need to change their name becasue its so tarnished by consumers, it would take alot to overcome that alone.

I can almost guarantee the Folsom store will close within a year or so.

They just announced the liquidation of ALL stores.

Yep, goodbye Circuit City.

Read here:

Circuit City going Under

So when they liquidate the inventory, the prices will be all the way down to MSRP? Sort of like Linens and things. huh.gif

I am very sypathetic to the companies going under and the emplyees without a job. However, its about time for certain comapnies like Circuit City and Linens and things. Overpriced and bad service...

Yep Circuit City is gone. I actually liked the one we had here. Prices were too high, but a nice store. I wonder if anything will go into the Folsom location or if it will stand empty for awhile. It's sad how many empty buildings there are now. I feel bad for all the people losing their jobs. I sure hope the economy gets better soon.

You have to be careful shopping at liquidation sale and not assume everything is a good deal. The liquidators usually mark up all the prices first so the percetange off discount looks more impressive. Often, you will be able to find the item cheaper online even after the supposed discounts. It isn't until near the very end that the best discounts become available. Sometimes they never discount the prices enough even in the final days and items just never sell and they get sent somewhere else to be resold through a different venue.

Circuit City to liquidate remaining US stores
http://news.yahoo.co...ity_bankruptcy;

Bankrupt Circuit City Stores Inc., the nation's second-biggest consumer electronics retailer, said Friday it failed to find a buyer and will liquidate its 567 U.S. stores. The closures could send another 30,000 people into the ranks of the unemployed.

I wonder what will happen with the building if Circuit City goes bankrupt before or shortly after the new store opens?

Almost exactly 9 months since the original post.
I wonder how people involved with this store opening didn't halt construction of the Folsom location and not waste all that money. This is not an unforeseen situation.

Well, my one experience with the Folsom store was rife poor customer service. It was a mid-week, mid-morning, and the least of the problems was that the employees acted as though they couldn't care less that I was there. ESPECIALLY in this day and age, customer service needs to be a top priority if businesses want to retain customers.

they should do like Egghead and do it all on-line. It's worked pretty well for them. Ship all the inventory to a wearhouse and sell it.
