From wiki:
As his career was taking off in the early 1960s, Cash started drinking heavily and became addicted to amphetamines and barbiturates. For a brief time, he shared an apartment in Nashville with Waylon Jennings, who was heavily addicted to amphetamines. Cash used the uppers to stay awake during tours. Friends joked about his "nervousness" and erratic behavior, many ignoring the warning signs of his worsening drug addiction. In a behind the scenes look at "The Johnny Cash Show", Cash claimes to have "tried every drug there was to try".

key words - early 60's

it didn't last, he quit within a few years

gotta keep things in perspective, he was a musician, not a presidential candidate.

Not to be rude or anything, Dave, but when was the last time that a myfolsom poll actually went the same way as a Folsom vote?? I don't think the posters here necessarily reflect overall Folsom wishes -- or Robert would be on city council, South of 50 would remain undeveloped and Bob Fish's measure would have passed, etc.

Dunno, never done a comparison between the two votes - and I'd like to think that folks here on the forum do somewhat represent Folsom, after all, most of us do live here...

sorry Tess, but its obvious that I'm not the only one who sees that there is more of a connection with Cash and Folsom then him just passing thru one night..

he put Folsom on the map - he helped our town get recognized world wide.

Folsom had a Pony Express stop and was a railroad hub! Why wouldn't you think those things put Folsom on the map more than a song? Again, I don't see people crowding onto Orange Blossom Circle to take pictures and check off their biggest-ball-of-string agenda.

Wel, per Kerri Howells post, I'm pretty convinced the city council will do what ever they dam well please and will likely make it a Johnny Cash Memorial. and then we can all drive across it and when giving friends directions, tell them go across the dam bridge, turn right on Natoma,...,
I would rather be Backpacking

Ok if this is such a great name why didn't they use it for the Natoma Crossing or the "new bridge" as it's known? It leads right into Sutter St, is close to the infamous prison, blah, blah, blah.

Because he wasn't dead yet and his new hit single was about shooting heroin?

I never did figure out who was the other person that voted for me.

I think with either a Johnny Cash name or "the dam bridge", this city will turn into hickville in no time lol. I mean since when is the city so concerned about what put it on the map. Just keep it simple and have the name be about what the bridge actually IS and DOES. I mean the Rainbow Bridge arch looks like a Rainbow over the river. And though the new bridge wasn't named as creatively, the design certainly was indicative of the Rainbow Bridge. So why not pay attention to the design of this bridge? To me...this new span appears to fly across the canyon with its 2 skinny supports...which is one of several reasons I thought the 'Folsom Flyway' would make a good name. Not as interesting as a JC name but certainly more creative than Folsom Dam Bridge.
Are you kidding baby...I put the GRRRRR in swinger baby....YEAH! lol

get a grip darth, its just the name of a bridge, we're not trying to rename your first child

I am just posting my opinion as you are yours - but ya know either way it doesn't really matter, whatever is decided will be fine because the best part of it all is that we're getting another bridge to hopefully help traffic move thru town better

Tess, you are correct, even most people in Folsom could not tell you where Orange Blossom Circle is - I bet there are people in Natoma Station who don't know where it is. I stand by my previous post. I guess you picked the wrong lyrics from the wrong song. Johnny Cash bridge/crossing will bring in tourists - bottom line - and may well bring in national news. As I said earlier, if you feel strongly, send an email or come to the Council meeting.

One other important item - at the end of the day, Sac County has 3 crossings of the American River, Hazel, Sunrise and Watt Avenue. Lil Ole Folsom will have 4. Those crossings should be as distinctive as we are.

I assume you are counting the foot bridge as a crossing? Thats cute. If they would have put the original (planned) bridge across the river from Oak Ave to Willow Creek we wouldn't be having this stupid argument anyways.
