I favor the Johnny Cash Bridge name because the man sang about Folsom and brought us recognition. I think it could help make Folsom a destination. I could envision people with in-laws from out of town saying, "Hey, let's go shopping in Folsom, eat on Sutter Sreet, and then take pictures at sunset by the Johnny Cash Memorial plaque with the prison in the backdrop."
It's been said that the awnings and median on Sutter Street aren't original and were added in the '50s by our city to attract tourists. It worked pretty well, and I don't think it was a cheesey thing to do.
Maybe if any of you do bother to email the city council you can tell them what your alternate name preference would be. Just be sure you email Kerri too so she can keep them honest about how many emails they receive.
Also, if you'd like KFBK to do a poll on the subject, maybe email them and say so. (Apparently, it was just a quiz they did).

Ya know this just now reminded me of another celebrity connection with a city that made it very famous and put the town on the map, but yet the celeb never even went there - where as Cash has actually been here to Folsom
anyone ever heard of the town Hollister and an actor named Marlon Brando?

The stupid bridge construction starts at 5am and is still going on at 11pm daily.
I hope mother nature turns a hateful eye to that bridge.
I'm fed up with the noise.

I've heard of hollister; and I've heard of brandon--but never in connection to each other.
heh---I think you just proved my point. 15 minutes of fame in the historical actors guild doesn't mean a hill of beans when it comes to tourism.

You forget one important factor - you've probably never been to Hollister - have you?
until you've been you wouldn't understand how it does REALLY add to tourism

good thing you weren't anywhere around when they were building the place you are currently living in - because that probably annoyed someone else nearby too
progress happens, don't hate it because it takes a bit of time to build.... once its done, you, like many others, will be using it to get across Folsom too

Yes, ofcoarse I've been to Hollister.
Used to go to the festivals every year. And the animal and farm equipment auctions.....

I can't believe you think naming the bridge after Johnny Cash would be cheesy...?
But dude... Can you imagine the "National" and "International" TV publicity we're gonna get when we do the "bridge walk" on the day it opens like we did when we opened up "Lake Natoma Crossing"...
There will be camera's everywhere... Man we can "hype" this up... t-shirts... posters... I can't believe there would be anyone "not in favor" of naming the bridge after Johnny Cash...
Hell we might get CMT TV out here and maybe a couple of free concerts out of it... we might start the annual Johnny Cash Festival or something...
Now... here's a warning... don't get between me and the TV camera... I want some more of my 15 minutes of fame..
Of course I'll have to fight for face time because even our City Council Critters will want all that face time in front of the camera.. hell we'll get "Ahnold" there... to talk about some more stinking "by-partisanship" funding... and you'll get some many "dignataries" here...
Geez... should I go on as to what this would mean for Folsom...
The "enlightened" people on the City Council are "missing" a "great opportunity"...
Am I wrong here...?
RANT OVER.....

If you have heard of anything going on in Hollister- Brando figures prominently--- for his 1954 Movie with Lee Marvin in the Wild One...
Thousands of biker trek there every year- and I mean THOUSANDS ...
Even Hollister found the loss of revenue to much when they tried to stop the ride into town a few years ago and then allowed it again..

Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

You're not wrong - you're absolutely right and I fully agree with everything you noted (we may not agree on politics but it looks like we agree on music's great reach to the masses)
but alas.....it seems the minority who don't know anything about the prison's history or music's world wide reach, just want to keep the blinders on and the potential for additional tourism completely closed (sigh)

I didn't even get to mentioning the Hollister biker event yet but I guess because one or two people have never heard of the connection then it must not be true

Ignorance is bliss for some I suppose....
