Tonite the misses and I are going to try two new recipes from one of our favorite recipe sites: epicurious.com

for appetizer - zucchini and saffron vichyssoise with scallops (recipe) and for main course - grilled chicken and vegetable sandwiches with tarragon mayo (recipe)

it was a total fluke but my wife was at Cost Plus World Market a few months ago and they were having a fantastic sale on their spices, crazy low prices, (regularly $12.99 on sale for $3.99) so she bought a few jars of vanilla beans and saffron threads.... this is actually the first recipe we're going to use them with

I buy a 5 gram box of "Altaj Crown: The Harvest of Saffron." It's been a month or so since I bought my last box, but I think it's about $20 for the 5 grams.

I do most of my shopping for Indian spices and products at Malabar Indian Store, which is one or two doors down from Dr. Hoffman (optometrist) in the older Raley's store parking lot (right off Wales).

You're quite welcome. I get my Basmati rice there, as well as many of my spices, including ground and stick cinnamon, whole cloves (grind them myself), peppercorns, hot chili powder, turmeric, cardamom, whole cumin seeds (grind them myself), coriander and ginger powder. Check out the products in the refrigerator and freezer sections as well.

It's either "pigs in a blanket" made with bratwurst and hot links, rolled up by my son, or his choice for dining out.

If he chooses to dine out, my expectations are it will either be Red Robin for their French Onion soup or the Mexican place over by the movie theaters, the hole in the wall taqueria.

OK, as some have found out, we had La Mexicana last night. So it's pigs in a blanket tonight.
no matter what meat we roll up, we use crescent rolls for the dough. Sometimes we use little smokies, sometimes regular hot dogs, tonight it's hot links and bratwurst. Probably do mac'n'cheese and a salad as well.
I would rather be Backpacking

We did the pigs in a blanket last week and Andrea wanted mac and cheese with it. I said no way. to much starchy stuff.

Tonight is Turkey Cheese Burgers on Sourdough Bread.

It's Friday night.

My son's school is having "Kids (Parents) night out", which means I don't have to pick him up until 10 PM. It's a nice quiet dinner out with the wife, followed by an adult (rated R) movie tonight at the theater.

We're gonna make roasted chicken with juniper berries and garlic, a recipe we got from the Holly's Hill wine club, paired with HH Cab-Syrah.

I've never cooked w/juniper before, so kinda nervous about it.

The wine will be good, though.
