ok--I know we aren't getting a lot of rain--but we did get a lot of snow this year, right?

and with the unusually warm weather we have been getting....

One would think that the rivers would be flowing, right now...

Have you been to Tahoe lately? It's just sad. Most years the snow is up above your head at this time. This year, you can see the dirt everywhere.

There is snow up there but it certainly isn't a normal snowpack by any stretch. In town in SLT are patches of snow and ice but not the normal "pack". Ski resorts have snow but praying for more.

Check out these sierra cams in
Sciots Tract (Hwy 50 above Kyburz near Twin Bridges)
Top of Spooner Summit -
Top of Tioga Pass - (normally under several feet of snow looks thin enough to be near season opening
Edgewood Tahoe Golf (SLT)

This is a great Sierra CA\NV webcam directory - http://www.sierravis...nevada-webcams/

Do the rain\snow dance or prayer...whatever does the job!

About $150 for the basic model at the Lowes or Home Depot. About $80 for installation, but I hear Darthvader occassionally runs a special for less.. You will need an additional hole in your sink, like an unused soap dispenser.

Thanks

Jeff

We just installed this one at Costco for $140, including a chrome or satin nickel finish faucet:

It was closer to $300 to get one at Lowes or Home Depot with a nice faucet that matched our existing hardware. The basic one with a white faucet is around $150, I think.

We have one. I avoid using it because the water comes out *HOT*. You can burn yourself on the steam.

1) They have a temp adjustment.
2) If you have kids, make sure you teach them about this since they are used to faucets not being hot when they are first turned on. They can burn themselves if they are not careful.
3) As an adult, you should be able to use it without burning yourself. If not, I suggest not doing other things, like driving, walking and chewing gum, reproducing, etc.

No we haven't. After all that heavy snow in Dec, the snowpack was only 60% or so of normal for that time of year. Until the recent dusting, the snow was already disappearing from the mountains as I could see exposed rock from where I work, so I'm guessing that the end of Jan measurement of snowpack will be <50% of normal, maybe <40%.

If the La Nina pattern doesn't change, and soon, and Feb & March don't make up for a weak Jan, i'm predicting Stage 4 or even Stage 5 by end of summer.

OK, I was over pessimistic. Tonight's news put the rain at 58% of normal and the snowpack at 60% of normal. Well, last year, end of Feb the snowpack was way above normal, and by late April had diminished to significantly sub normal as we had the dryest 2 month Mar-apr on record I seem to recall.

Fact is, we are down, down, down and we need the weather to change or we will be in trouble this summer.

The weather guy on the news last night said we would have to have more than twice the normal rainfall in February just to catch up. It's going to be a long, hot, dusty summer if we don't get some rain & snow.

Maybe the rain gods don't go online, Bill Z. You should try performing your rain dance up on the Johnny Cash Memorial Bridge so they can see you. smile.gif

If I did that right now, I would probably be arrested for trespassing, and if I waited until the grand opening, one , it's a bit late in the season, and two, my wife would kill me for publicly embarrassing her.

Maybe I'll try it in the backyard this weekend.

OK, that does it. Supermom, you will lose your title if you don't take your kids to see Lake Tahoe this summer. And if you havn't been there, is it safe to presume you haven't been to Yosemite either. If so, you need to go there as well, especially early spring if possible as the falls are at their best then.

This may be a silly question, but why is it I've only heard of Folsom going to Stage 3. Aren't there other water providers that get their water from Folsom Lake? Are they also going to have the same water use restrictions as Folsom?

For example, some of the stakeholders in the Water Forum Agreement are as follows per Appendix J:

"San Juan Water District, Citrus Heights Water District, Fair Oaks Water District, Orange
Vale Water District, Sacramento County, City of Roseville, City of Folsom, El Dorado
Irrigation District, Georgetown Divide Public Utility District, and Placer County Water
Agency are, or will become, users of Central Valley Project water supplies. As such they are subject to the water conservation provisions of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA). CVPIA conservation requirements and related costs are independent of the Water Forum Agreement."

I hope Mr. Miklos takes this stage 3 situation, and the fact there's a serious drought, into consideration when discussing any and all future south of 50 development - the cold hard fact that is not enough water for Folsom let alone any new developments south of 50, should cease all discussions.

You do realize that south of 50 is completely independent supply ?

It's coming from Natomas Central Mutual Water Company and could supplement for area's north of 50 if needed.

Does the Natomas Central Mutual Water Company water come out of the same lake (mud hole) as north of 50 water???

Is there a way to get Sacramento River water to the South of 50 land? If not, how are they going to do it and who is going to pay for it? Shasta isn't in much better shape than Folsom, so I guess our new residents will be in the same boat as we are and will have to get used to every year being a dry year.

nearly every water supply in the world is gravity-fed. to pump water over distance with even a foot or two or elevation change would be cost-prohibitive. for south of 50 to get water from the Sacramento River, it would have to be pumped out of the Sacramento River in Sacramento and then piped 22 miles west and uphill.

I think the discussion is to buy some of their water rights that go into the Sacramento River, but come out of the American River (which means Folsom Lake). Could someone clarify this? the map at the link shows sources to the west of us and at lower elevations.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.
