Thanks dad

I'm not sure why that comment was even necessary. Either-way, she has bagged on this movie before she even seen it in this thread for no reason. Same as GFFMatt. Matt compared me to his "wife" and then she talked about the movie being for "15 year olds", "less experienced movie viewers" and such trash her husband wanted to walk out halfway through it.
All I have pointed it is putting the movie aside... I think there was no reason to make comments like this and take it that far. That the comments felt to me like less of a movie review but more about making others feel stupid they liked it.
And this is exactly why I said my comments:
Those movies are rated equally with what MrsTuffPaws has said Avatar was. All I was ever saying was that there is no-way this movie is THAT BAD to anybody.
I don't think Avatar is a perfect movie. It does have a very used storyline premise. It was very predictable. But the movie never promised to be an un-used storyline or be some kind of mystery/suspense. Could it have made the movie better if it was? Sure, maybe. But 99% of the movies hollywood throws at us now are remakes, comics, historical with a spin such as titanic. Its a rarity to see a movie that you can't compare to other movies you seen. So Avatar wasn't groundbreaking in those departments but it was with certain characters in the acting, vfx and other reasons people enjoy a movie. The story wasn't bad by any means IMO, it just wasn't new. But still was more refreshing then seeing ANOTHER comic book or remake movie.
UP was phenomenal and great in 3D but it was designed to be in both 3D and 2D. 3D just made it more enjoyable viewing wise.
Avatar was made for 3D more specifically because of several reasons but one big one is they wanted the audience to submerge themselves into the world of pandora and feel as though they are there. In order to do that 3D was fully necessary.
Early in the thread GFFMatt stated something about him believing that a movie should be enjoyable in 2D as well and you shouldn't have to see it in 3D. Well, although that kind of makes since I don't think its true. If there was a movie that was about colors and the entire premise surrounded the viewer being able to see those colors then could it be enjoyed in black and white? Heck, there is a very long list of movies I could tell you that I would in no-way enjoy in black and white. Thats why EVERY movie is in color now. 3D with this movie is equally the same in my belief. And whether we like it or not the timeline of movies will go like this. No Sound in B&W>Talkies>Color>3D. Although I pray that they never make comedies or all movies 3D but if it's a movie where its called for...

I think you missed my point, it's better to attack the message and not the messenger.
Attacking the message is considered keeping things civil, attacking the messenger is making it personal and is what leads to the escalation of emotions that brought down the political forum. So the closure of the political section isn't really about politics, it's about trying to keep things civil on this forum. Politics just happens to be where the worst of incivility happens to occur. I'm not a moderator, but I bet all of the moderators and john agree with the above.
Have a nice day, Merry Xmas, and try not to take & make things too personal on here.

I'm convinced at this point that the best viewing experience is a good bluray player with good hdtv and a good sound system. I still have not been to any theatre that has come close to what I have at home.

I've made it clear several times in this forum that I'm not here to make enemies. We all get caught up sometimes in threads or comments that rub us the wrong way. It happens but unless things get out of hand with name calling or direct personal attacks then I don't think moderation even comes to play.
Either-way, I think we all agree that this little disagreement is exhausted and really doesn't need to continue and be discussed. Hopefully this thread can return to movie reviews from newcomers if they like it or dislike it.
Enjoy your time off from work as well

You have a building sized tv screen and sound that can compare? Not to mention 3D. I wanna go to your house!!!
Cause my 65 inch widescreen and surround sound certainly doesn't even come close to a theater. Wish it did...

I was commenting on the quality of a movie being reviewed in contrast to another movie from its same genre and generation.
When one makes a comment--say....Ferris buhlers day off is a c- compared to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (in original black and white format) it makes no sense to compare--therefore, I will automatically go with the movie that I have the most vested interest in (ie. money, emotion, memory, experience).
Generally that is how most people tend to choose "favorites" anyway.
Wasn't trying to bag on you.
but...the movies cited--and I'm not sure who first brought up the comparisons--really were targeted for young viewerships (by young I mean immature--not age).
I'm still uncertain what that means for this movie. Is avatar targeted toward immature viewers? I have no idea--I haven't seen the film.

No. But the quality of my equipment and the way the room is set up has amazing results. It's not even super high end stuff but it works very well and is tuned correctly. I don't need a 2 story screen to enjoy a movie. I enjoy the clarity of my 52" screen with blu ray. Also I have never heard excellent sound in a movie theatre. It is always lacking in some aspect whether its the mid range, low range, etc... If I can sit on my couch in my home and feel an explosion on a movie inside me, then I am happy. If I can hear a sniper take a shot behind me and have it feel like it just went bye my face then I am happy.

Chris, nothing beats the comfort of your own home and if you have a killer surround sound system and tv setup. I agree which is why I have the system and tv I do. But for this particular movie you will want to make an exception and go beyond that so you can at least enjoy it with a good 3D system. Theaters are just barely getting 3D into the acceptable level. 3d tv's coming out or not... I think it will be a while before the home tv can really give us a solid 3D experience.

Can we stop the high-five posts about moderation and let this thread get back to the movie. Mods keeping threads on topic seems of far more value to me then this.

Glad to hear you liked it. Did you take junior/gravy/booger with you? (if so just curious how the wee one liked it)

Oh, and just an interesting note. There were a disproportionate number of senior citizens at the particular show I went to, so it wasn't all about the kids...
