I know that cw, Jolene, and friends and family have other things to do besides keeping us updated, but please know that a lot of us really care about receiving news. I am just waiting for the day when Jessica wakes up and is ready to go back to being a healthy, happy, fun-loving kid.

e: Jessica and FB updates
That is fine, Ken and thank you for thinking of it. Can you please just have them note in their friend request where they know me from, in case I don't recognize their name?
Thanks a bunch for everything.... thinking of this and the thoughts and energy.

JESSICA UPDATE - May 4, 2010 - 1:12 pm
Share
I cannot believe that it is 1:15 p.m. and I know that you will all tell me not to worry about it, but I am sorry for the lateness of this update. I know how I would feel if it were one of your children in the hospital, I would be worried and want to know what was going on, as well. That is my motivation for trying to get these updates out timely. Today has been a little crazy, though.
She had a good day yesterday. As you all know, there was excitement in the morning... They wanted to take an Ultrasound of her brain to determine if her veins in her brain were seizing. Seizing veins would have meant no blood flow going to her brain, which is bad.
So, the Ultrasound tech came and did her thing and the commotion of all of that started to affect Jessica's numbers.
When I say her "Numbers", I'm talking about that trifecta of Blood Pressure, Intercranial Pressure (ICP) and Cerebral Profusion Pressures (CPP). Basically, it's the numbers that show the swelling, fluid and blood activity in her brain. The blood pressure is the number that they can control with meds, that affects her ICP and the difference between the mean of her blood pressure and the ICP give us the CPP. I know, I know, it still makes no sense, right? Just wanted to TRY to give a sense of meaning behind this terminology.
So, when they did the ultrasound on her brain yesterday, just the activity of it all caused her to get agitated, her blood pressure raised and her numbers got a little fidgety. That's when I sent out the help request on here for concentrated energy for decreased pressure. Five or ten minutes later, they realized it was just the way the bed was adjusted, fixed it and her numbers reacted immediately in a positive fashion - Miracle Number One!
But then after her numbers started to regulate, the ultrasound tech had finished with the ultrasound and NeuroSurgery read the results and found that her brain was seizing and she needed to go for a CT scan to determine if her veins were open or not. That's when I sent out the request for a false positive and to have her veins be opened. And you all came through again. I went to take a shower and Jesse texted me and said: "They're open, we're heading back up!"
Although the veins are seizing a little bit and are a little bit tight, they aren't completely closed, so she continues to get blood to her brain, which we all know is an awesome thing.
So, THANK YOU for the miracles yesterday. I am amazed at how quickly it worked and gratitude floods my heart for you all. (What are tomorrow's lottery numbers???)
Once she was back from her CT scan yesterday it was just a more stable day. Busy work for the nurses, who were attempting to change out her IV lines, give her a bath, change her bed, etc., but through it all, she was a champ. She never got too agitated, and her ICP fell consistently throughout the day.
I tried as hard as I could to stay up late enough to wait until her bath was done and her bed was changed, but I crashed hard around midnight, I think. I slept in until 7:30/7:45. I'm still exhausted today, but feeling pretty good about her condition.
THIS MORNING, they had to change her bed again, because there was an issue with the electronics in it, they did another ultrasound on her head, gave her a breathing treatment, moved one of her IVs (from her femoral artery at her groin to her arm), and turned off the paralytic again. The paralytic is the med that is keeping her paralyzed. So, they changed our visitor allowance, only allowing three people in the room at a time. Because the paralytic has been turned off, she might begin to experience some pain, and we need to make sure that her stimulation is to a minimum. Lights off, quiet voices, etc.
PEOPLE CAN STILL VISIT and I would like you to still come if you are called to, we just need to try to schedule it a little bit so that there aren't too many people in the room at a time.
She's doing wonderfully. Her numbers (there I go again) continue their downward trend and like yesterday, are at the lowest point they've ever been. We've been watching for movement, but haven't seen any yet, but I feel like that is not too far off on the horizon. They are thinking they will decrease the sedative in the next couple of days, as well. With both the sedative and paralytic turned off, they will be able to begin to evaluate her body for response and movement and ultimately, of course, ideally, begin waking her up. This will probably be another week to week and a half, I would guess. Though, I could be wrong. It all seems to be going really fast now. The power of love, light and prayer has been strong in her recovery. I wouldn't be surprised if she woke sooner and with minimal damage.
That is our hope, anyway. That is our prayer. Let this be heard.
Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

As you know, they turned off the paralytic at 10:00 a.m.. Just a little bit ago, they were suctioning out her mouth and apparently she didn't like that too much. She moved both hands and feet. BOTH SIDES!! This is important because they told us not to expect movement on the left side because of the location of the injury.
She showed them!! She moved she moved she moved!!!
She hasn't done it again and the nurse asked us to back off to give her some rest, but she moved and now I'm a blubbering mess. hahah
She moved!!
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.
