I stopped in for lunch today! There was a long line, but it moved at a reasonable pace and the owners and employees made everyone welcome. Service is assembly line-style, like Subway or Chipotle. I ordered the Texas brisket with potato salad & green beans, which also included a roll, onion, and pickle chips. Total came to $10, and it was a lot of food. There are 3 BBQ sauces in a self-serve station, all kept warm. There is also a complimentary self-service jar of jumbo pickles. You also get free soft-serve ice cream too, but I didn't take any as I ordered to-go. The food was very good, and the Hot & Spicy sauce lived up to its name. The food was good--brisket was moist and flavorful. Don't ask me about authenticity though, as I'm a 100% west-coaster. The staff was very friendly and I look forward to returning. Just one downside that should be addressed--they don't serve beer.

Thanks so much for coming in for lunch! We did have a lot of people through the door both today and yesterday and the staff worked long hours to give everyone the best experience we could.
I am so glad you enjoyed it! We look forward to seeing you again soon!

okay, we went today too. yeehaw! it was very good and we will definately be back. I had the sliced brisket with the original dickeys sauce, bbq beans and colesaw. We also had the pulled pork. the quarter plate has a quarter pound of meat, two sides and a roll. very good. Mrdavex already addressed the sides and his review is right on.

the brisket was fantastic. you don't need a knife to slice it. the bbq beans had a wonderful smokey flavor. very good and a good value. I saw lots of little kids enjoying their free ice cream and adults getting those big pickles too.

welcome to the neighborhood, Ray! Dickies could become a habit!

Thanks so much for the welcome! We have had such a warm welcome from so many people and I can honestly say that we have had rave reviews about our food first hand.
We are working hard and trying hard and will always strive to provide the best food and the best service.

Cheers!

Ray, it was clear that you, your wife and all of your staff were working very hard, paying attention and getting it right even under the pressure of having a line nearly out the door! So So glad you are here and open! Thanks for coming to historic Folsom!

The lines have indeed been long, but on a Friday night there is a wait at most restaurants where the food is good :-) I expect things to settle down over the coming weeks as the staff become faster on the line and we are able to accommodate so many people at one time. It is good that we do have enough seating that no one was looking for a table when they got their food.
If you or any other forum readers do visit Yelp.com I would be very appreciative of some good reviews. Unfortunately that site does filter out the good ones in favor of the spiteful ones that some people love to write from the anonymity of their pc. We had at least 10 great reviews on the first day on Yelp, and then one bad one from a sad little man who appears to write bad reviews for just about every business. Apparently the barbecue is "out of a bottle, tasteless and the best thing at Dickey's is the soda". Well that is his opinion of course, but it is clear his primary intention is to damage my business, not to provide helpful reviews to others. And I have his name so I and my attorney will be watching him very closely!
I am so glad that the majority of people are decent folk and not nasty and spiteful jackasses like Jeff K - or is it B?.

I LOVE the dickey's original sauce. my mom really liked the sweet. next time I'm going to try the hot and spice. and, yes, I was afraid you wouldn't have a seat when I saw the line, but there were lots of tables. You're lucky!

We were just having a conversation on here about Yelp. It's definately manipulated data. Apparently more and more people are becoming aware of that. I have a few friends who have had the same issues. I will go on and post though.

I don't need Yelp to tell me where to eat and I'll be back, likely within the week! I want to try the turkey breast and the ribs.....

I'm here right now. Don't want to leave! My son had the ribs, I had the pulled pork - both were excellent! Liked the sauces, but loved the sweet mixed with the hot & spicy. The Mac-n-cheese was good, not great, and the baked potato casserole was tasty.

The people were friendly, service was good. Kids eat free on Sundays.

We'll be back!

I thought I’d chime in and say that I am very disappointed with the negative posts here, even before the place is opened! WOW! All the speculation about if it will fail or not!

Further, with so many restaurants closing down, I’d think that we all would be thrilled that another is coming and that our choices of dining are now one more.

As far as healthy food goes, I think the most healthy is home cooked. Restaurants can not provide the organic, low salt, low sugar and low fat to the general public, as I think that would fail quickly. As America goes, we generally like our food salted and seasoned well and most eat out about once a week. So, we aren’t going to stress about the salt and fat too much just for that one occasion.

For me and my husband, we buy the frozen lean type dinners and throw them in the microwave if I’m too tired to cook. Which is most the time. We add to that a extra helping of vegetables and and sometimes some yogurt. It’s not for everyone, but we make do with eating this way when we are too tried to cook or dine out.

I welcome a BBQ place in Folsom and am looking forward to eating there, because I LOVE BBQ. I think it will be a very nice place to go after shopping at WalMart. I like to reward hubby for being a good sport by helping with loading and unloading the products we buy. LOL!

We did take-out tonight. It was nice to meet you, Ray! :)

I ordered a Polish sausage sandwich for my husband and was confused as to how to order it. There are three types of sandwiches and the Western is the only one that comes on a long bun -- but with two meats. I was told I could get the round bun and they would slice the sausage up in pieces and pile it on. (Who does that to a sausage sandwich?) It took longer than it should have to place the order and in the end they "called" it a Western -- and I don't think I was charged for the additional cost of two meats since the sandwich only had sausage. My husband LOVED it and I'm sure he would get it again.... but I'm still not sure what to ask for since it seemed the staff accommodated us. I apologize to everyone behind me in line that this took so long!

I got a combo plate with ribs and sliced brisket and tried the original sauce and the spicy sauce. It was all very good. The spicy sauce has just enough kick without putting the tongue on fire.

We both had Caesar salads (dressing on the side) and husbter had the waffle fries; all good. I had the green beans, which were way overcooked -- although I realize that a lot of BBQ places serve them this way. Trying to find low-carb, low-fat, not fried side dishes isn't easy. Maybe next time I'll get a double order of the green salad.

We'll definitely go back and of course the hubster wants to dine in for the ice-cream.

I agree that finding a "healthy" side was problematic. Ceasar salad isn't a super healthy salad and I think it was the healthiest one available. Green beans with bacon, friend okra and the like. Of course, given the excuse that there wasn't a clearly healthy option, I went for the Mac-n-cheese which was likely the worst on the menu. I REALLY wish there was a fruit option - for the two side option: one fresh and crispy, one decadent.

I went back in yesterday for the turkey breast quarter plate with baked beans and coleslaw. again, all wonderful! the turkey was very moist and had a great smokey flavor. I checked the nutritional information on their website so I knew what to order if I want to indulge without a lot of guilt. But, after all, this is a BBQ place. BBQ isn't know for being health food. I think people should consider the options from the website and go for it.

love it!

My brother and his wife are in town so I got a family pack a Dickie's. Even though the wait was long, the food was great! Not quite as great as my homemade smoked pork butt, but pretty darn good! I really liked to spicy cheddar sausage. Very good coleslaw and mac and cheese too! I want to come back and try the turkey. Glad Dickie's is here and I hope they do well.

Hi Deb

I have just come up for air after 4 very busy days and wanted to get back to you on your points. I am sorry it was confusing over the sandwich. The easiest way to explain is that there are 3 different size buns from smallest to largest, the hoagie, the big barbecue and the westerner. There are 8 different meats and you can have any one of them in the first two, or a double helping of one or a mix of two in the last. The price of the dish is really in the weight of the meat and not the bun... all meat is weighed so if you had double meat then you would have got the right value no matter what size bun you had. They called it a Westerner because the bigger bun is the one that can accommodate double meat and that would make sure you were charged the correct price. I hope that explains it :-)

The green beans are cooked Southern style.. with bacon and onions until they are soft and really like a soup. This is the way they do it in Texas! I hear ya about not over cooking vegetables.. I am a trained chef and I like my veg al dente too..but most Americans do not, especially those who eat barbecue. Also this is a Dickey's recipe that I must adhere too, can't change it or I will go off menu and that is not allowed.
I really appreciate your custom and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Best regards

Ray

I am happy to be second to your own home cooked pork butt :-)

Sorry the wait was long but we are getting quicker - with so many customers and newly trained staff it was tough, but I sincerely thank you for sticking it out. Today the lines moved much quicker as the staff are now more familiar with what they need to do.

I am looking forward to seeing you again!

Cheers

I hear your comments and understand your desire for something healthy to eat with the barbecue meats, unfortunately I cannot do anything about it for at least 3 months and then I will need to submit any request for an additional dish to the corporate offices of Dickey's. Since it is a franchise we must adhere to the menu, but I agree I would love a fresh fruit or crisp vegetable side, perhaps even some rice too! I would love to be able to add greens, and sweet potato, sweetcorn etc.

Sorry! :-)

Ray
