I love driving fast. I love listening to the engine at high speeds. I love the feel of the steering wheel in my hands as my wheels feel like they are gliding over the earth rather than rolling, at high speeds. I love the funny feeling you get as your eyes constantly adjust to forward and direct and side vision, and the earth slips past you so fast there is a gray outline in farthest point of you peripheral vision.

I love driving fast. But I also know that there are certain conditions roadways must meet the criteria according to state law, for high speeds to be allowed. And other factors come into play when high speed is acceptable. Like the time of day, natural light, visual distance, dampness of roadway, elbow room, etc..

I also believe that barriers may save lives by limiting the extent of collateral lethality, but that may not always be the case. I think that the best way to manage some roads, is to treat them like inner city expressways. They should be built, banked, striped, labelled, signage, and policed as such. I also think that when you have inner city expressways, there should be automatic electronic radar, camera and electronic ticketing at every exit.

Hit the pocket. Because $ is most often the only solution to the reason people will slow down.

ps, I love hitting 55 as I approach the onramp leaving town. And I sure as heck love 55 on the Dam Road. How else can I get that brief rush in an otherwise mundane Folsom day?

Your comments never cease to amaze me!!!

By the way ~ that is not meant to be a compliment!!!

Sad thing about the public works and the engineer deal is it sounds like the same guys are making decisions on what's best for police and fire in the city too. One of these days............paper tiger.

Probably the shortest puppet strings in the history of Folsom?

Speeding in Folsom concerns me less than does Folsom drivers' attentiveness. We seem to have an inordinate amount of distracted, inattentive drivers here that constantly drive like jackasses.

Bless you Maestro for bringing the TRUTH to Folsom!

Dude,
You are warming my heart and my memories of Bob Blaser.

Without Bob I would never have learned so much about the city, its perfidious money-grubbing carpet-baggers, and civil engineering.

I caused and paid for the deposing of Bob and other city employees (obviously under oath) and paid for videotaping their depositions. The suit was quite successful for the American River, but did not root out the root causers.

Since the City Engineer is a law enforcement position (by city laws and regulations), this is a council which chooses to eliminate an entire branch of law enforcement -- the one which regulates safety and quality of life.

The families who suffered 'crossover crashing' losses will remain in my remembrances all my life.

Many thanks for all your posts here Maestro

Your note above should be used by Roger Gaylord every time he has a public debate with Starsky.

The citizens of Folsom need to be made more aware of these terrible moves by our inept city council

I'm still shocked our city is laying off police while pissing away money on freaking useless garbage truck beautification

How about making the authorities more aware of what we know.

How about demanding the authorities with the big budgets get on the ball and investigate......

How can any agency stand by watching, suggesting this is not deliberate, while lives are being lost at a fast rate.

This is way beyond graft IMO.

Hi Super-So do you mean driving fast while on the freeway? I cant think of any street in Folsom that would get you going fast enough to feel and hear the vibration of the engine, (oh, except the Dam Road), that would be safe driving around the streets of Folsom. You asked how else you were going to get brief rush in a mundane Folsom day, I love Folsom days! Im so grateful to live in this gorgeous peaceful town for 8 years, I hope we never move..I am sorry that you feel your days are mundane (if I understood you correctly), Im gonna start a thread relating to this, not to offend you, I like you, but I think it would be a good topic...I hope your day is a good one, it is Friday...Im happy I dont have to get after the kids and homework for 2 days, hehehe..

I apologize if my comments seemed insensitive. They weren't meant to.

As a parent of two girls (19 and 24 years old), uncle and honorary uncle of many kids, and somewhat of a community activist, I've known many parents and kids who've had to deal with such tragedies.

Whenever I hear of one, I go to Facebook to see if they might be in my circle of friends and family or just out of curiosity. I am often surprised by what kids post about themselves on public sites. For example, the young man accused of shooting a tourist in SF had pictures of himself with assault rifles, a niece of mine whose brother was accused of gang crimes posted pictures of him and their friends wearing gang colors and tats and flashing signs, and the kid accused of driving under the influence had pictures of himself drinking and smoking. All of these made it hard for their lawyers, friends and family to defend them.

So, when looking at photos of the young man first identified as one of the drivers, I was bothered by his photos.

Knowing now that a different tragedy befell him, the photos are no less concerning, but at least we know he didn't take someone else's life.

If you like, I can remove all references on the site.

It makes me laugh when I think of the criticism I received when looked at the Facebook page of a local football hero when he got a DUI a little over a year ago.

Your reasons for looking we're different then Steve's. You just wanted more ammo to hate the athletic programs in our schools and you advertised that in your posts.

I think my post stands for itself. I like speed. I also recognize why there are speed limits on roads. Each road is built with a speed rating created through several factors. If you dont like me saying I like speed, it will not hurt my feelings.Really.
Although, it is pretty sad ( or maybe misplaced emotions?) when people say they dont like people who get a rush from speed, in my opinion.
Absolutely nowhere in my post did I say I lack respect for other lives, drivers, or the laws posted speed limit.

Ur right though, you cant get those kinds of speeds, in this area. The best yoou can do is 55 on the dam or the last stretch of FA before hitting the highway.

Even the highway doesnt give that speed, anymore. too many cars on the road!

We have driven to Yellowstone every year for the past 7 years, its usually my turn to drive when we drive through the states that have a 75 mph speed limit, everyone drives about 85 tho, so I drive 75 -80 mph (our car drives super smooth so I dont realize Im doing that fast till Im at 80) thank God, its a straight flat drive and hold the wheel so tight my hands ache after...Im so not comfortable driving at that speed, my heart does race and I feel that pit in my stomach, but not from excitement....

I fully understand your likeness to speed as I'm the same way. There is nothing like going 150 mph. But I would never do it on the streets. Always on closed course or the track. I hit 100 mph in the dirt on a trail this last summer on my KTM. First time I ever did that. What a rush.
