QUOTE(tessieca @ May 12 2005, 12:58 PM)
I still see nothing about the demise of the store.  I've noted the great efforts the owners take to keep their name in the public eye.  I've noted that I do not approve of people suing in order to gain publicity.  I've noted that the majority of the attendees at the city council meeting voiced support of the ordinance and not the store.  I've noted that dmarkum has some weird conspiracy theory that went unexplained.  I've noted in the prior forum (not this one for which y'all seem to want to attack me) that the owners were not willing to answer questions about content early on.  (If you're going to go back to old topics and posts, you have to go back over the WHOLE conversation because there was a progression and not just a conclusion.)

The problem we have here, right now, is that some newcomers are jumping in at the tail end of a long process and long discussion, reaching conclusions based on lack of information, and then deciding to attack me just because I have the nerve to express my own thoughts and to provide information about how the process worked.  You may not like how the process worked, but it did work.

So, now, just leave me alone.  I am not a publicity-seeking, for-profit store.  I am a citizen who actually does quite a bit for this community that has nothing to do with some stupid store that I don't much care about.  This isn't about me.  Get back to your support of the publicity hounds.

is it really so much to ask that you just suck it up and admit you were wrong?

oh wait, i forgot: it's easier to claim ignorance and apathy and shirk-ownership of your own beliefs.

you asked for evidence, and what we've given you is the INDIRECT evidence that you've supplied. it doesn't take a genius to read between the lines and recognize the core of your morals/values/belief-system....

I'm with Adamal.  If you could apply your energy to positive community involvement, Folsom would be far better off.

I'm fairly new here but I have noticed that this person is one very extreme conservative.

if so, it'll be because of location, as opposed to community want/need....

It sounds like the little city of Folsom is going through some growing pains. The ideas of old are clashing with the thoughts of new; old school vs. new school. Personally, I take my hat off to anyone taking advantage of the free-enterprise system. Instead of working, listening, or being told what to do, while building their boss' dream, they venture out on a dream of their own. The prize, financial independence. The freedom to call their own shots, make their own decisions, when they want, and with who they want. This shop is no different than any other small shop that has opened its doors with a dream; find the need and fill it.

I predict the world will blow up in two years. I think my conjecture is just about as evidence based as yours.

Great statement... NOT!

I guess you also hope that the government one day repeals our first amendment rights.  You probably also hope the government regulates everything we see... hear... and do as well.

I can't wait to enjoy your thinking of how this country should be run! (And if you can't tell... there is just a bit of sarcasm in that statement!)

I hope this was a bit of sarcasm on your part. Or it is pretty scary that you think this country should turn into a socialistic place.

thank you.

it's this same 'moraler than thou' mentality that threatens many new businesses that cater to an 'alternative' lifestyle. headshops. tattoo parlors. adult-toy stores. stores that cater to teens. etc.etc.etc. they all get threatened and bullied by the morality police, and they all are forced to defend their right to build a business to their liking. if it fails, it fails. but LET them fail if they have a "product" that isn't popular in said community. don't FORCE them out of business because of a few simpletons own close-minded values.

I heard the same craps 'Folsom has liquor stores that sell XXX materials SO let add some more to it', or 'Folsom has plenty of crimes so let add more to it' .  It's the careles attitudes like that that will eventually degrade, slowly but surely,  the city to the likes of Rancho Cordova.

Actually you probably couldn't blame the "demise" of Rancho on its allowing strip clubs and other sex shops into town. IT WAS THE CLOSING OF MATHER AFB!!! Someone who has lived here for 13 years should know that! Image the major employer in any town shutting down... the employment rate goes sky high... and property become less valuable because of a mass exodus. Now with the increased development of Mather as a cargo airport... it has brought more jobs to this area... and Rancho is again building. Just give it time and I am sure Rancho won't be as bad as it was... even if the strip clubs stick around.

Image if Intel decided to close up shop... that would be quite a few jobs leaving the Folsom area... and I am sure this would have a big hit on the economy.

Great conclusion that strip clubs and sex shops lead to a cities demise! Try again pal.

Insightful comment.

Speciality retail stores sometimes struggle after a initial opening. Trends and fads do change quickly.

If the owners do a good job of keeping the shop and merchandise "fresh" and can somehow establish a mechanism whereby they keep customers returning they should stay in business longer than one year.

So far they have done a good job of making lemonade out of lemons, but will need progress to a different marketing scheme.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

1st amendment!

At the same time keep the store front 'kid friendly' while we walk the street with our children.

AMEN!

Very cleaver tactics indeed; however, it appears that there is someone who beleives they have all the answers (central point for all the "factual" information?) to make the statments made? I think not. Please allow a restatement that is so true "lack of information, and then deciding to attack." Even better yet "the nerve to express my own thoughts." Exactly, you are given this right as a result of your civil rights as an American citizen. And finally "to provide information about how the process worked". The process worked in Folsom by individuals who all have very close social ties and businesses from what I'm seeing. Great points!! I for one am glad there are still people who stand up for themselves. It will now be judicial system which is to be the deciding forum. Individuals who's job is solely to review the facts with the law of the United States as their guide. Even better, the superior court (and court of appeals) have no ties to Folsom's political and social drivers. I look forward to the outcome of the case.

you know if they win the lau suite they could move the sex stuff from the back room into the front and then start a store that sells medical marijuana....now that would start things a popping

I saw one of those stores, had bars on the windows no sign out front but a lot of traffic

the old soldier may have a vision here..

If you can't debate the subject, attack the person. Okay, I'm done playing.
"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.
