Speaking of bicycles and to maybe get more on topic, is it true that the slowdownFolsom campaign netted a bicyclist for dui when they were doing the Memorial Day check on Folsom Boulevard?

Was the "Slow Down Folsom" effort successful?

i didn't hear about this, but i lived in midtown sacramento for 3 years (where i would frequently bike to the bars, get pretty buzzed, and bike home),and I know of friends that had this happen to them. it's pretty absurd to me, honestly. if anything they should be ENCOURAGING people to leave their 2 ton beasts at home if they'll be out drinking.

I wasn't going to say buy a bicycle.
How many families in Folsom have 1 car? 2? 3? 4? 5? Forget about cars...
There's lots of products that are dependent on oil - if every just reduced their overall consumption by 5-10% it would have a much greater positive impact on the environment than buying a hybrid. How about overpopulation? Most people don't give that much thought when talking about environmental effects.

I'm not following you, cloud. Are you saying there should be no more people?

Bicyclists are required to obey rules of the road, including DUI.

I happen to agree, though I guess it can be argued that they could cause an accident.

There's a reason it's called, "over" population. Who said there should be no more people?
If this is the first time discussing overpopulation, there are many sites on the subject. It's quite an interesting subject.

What I'm saying is that with the growth of the population and medical advances extending human life, it's undeniable, that given our current lifestyles, it has an adverse effect on the environment. Much more so than vehicles.

This was only the first of what we plan on having as an annual event. Much thought went into this program. It is not about enforcement, or about false warnings. It's about voluntary compliance.
Again, this was our first year with the program. Many folks found out about it later in the month, and requests for signs picked up around the 15th.
I funded myself, and we'll get it off to a faster start, with better press, and hopefully, more participation from residents next year.
Slow Down Folsom idea was one that we came up with as an alternative. We've received some positive feedback, and some criticism. At least we were willing to try something.
I hope you'll all join us next year, and in the meantime, please don't be one of the speeders.

Great program.
Any way it could happen more than once a year?
Any groups that fund traffic safety efforts by citizens?
With school closing now, and children on the streets more
often -- isn't there another possible campaign?
I hope the signs remain in place for a while longer.

Not only the young children, but it will now be "amateur" hour all summer long on our roads with all the high school and college kids out (I know, there are many that are responsible, but there's a pretty good amount that just suck as drivers).
