Don't know if this was posted earlier, but SacBee has an article on a possible ordinance:

http://www.sacbee.co...-14878252c.html

I dunno about you guys, but I have no room to store my cans. I literally store them on my neighbours property by the side of my house, which is still visible from the street, but there really is no other place for them besides my living room. Good old historic district!

As stated several times in this thread you can opt out of the 3 can policy for a single can if that better fits your needs.

The way I see it......without the second trash can, I would have absolutely no place to dump my old paint cans, used motor oil. and empty pool chemical bottles....I absolutely have to hide them behind my fence, because when I first dump everything together, I'd hate for someone to see the small vapor clouds and toxic plumes of smoke that are emitted during those first tense moments.

It also relieved me from having to take the drive out to Placerville Road to dump big stuff. j/k

A 27in TV fits in the big black can very nicely if you point the tv screen up. It was like it was made for it (back before they turned my big black one into a lawn clippings can). I bet the prisoners loved me for that one.

The city took our 1000 sq. ft. of old carpet and padding in the black can back in the good ol' days. Of course that was over a period of three months. With the right tools, I'd bet you could dispose of a mattress the same way. smile.gif

Hahahaha that 1000' of carpet reminds me of the time I busted out a concrete deck and it took me almost a year to get rid of it by dumping a few pieces here and there every week. C'mon people, what's the biggest thing you've taken apart and dumped piece by piece into the can????

..as Jason noted above - it IS possible to dispose of a mattress in the same manner. You just need some really good wire cutters

Absolutely! It gives us people to look up to! I am rather proud of fitting my 27 in TV in the can. I rarely get a chance to brag about it. Most people would frown upon it but here... I have brothers and sisters in trash sin. Additionally it puts my experience in correct light. I was beginning to get big headed on it. Now I see the true kings of trash - the guys that saved concrete, carpet, and mattresses and fed the black beast over months. Now I have something to aspire to. bowdown.gif

Instead, why not take advantage of the City's FREE neighborhood cleanup service. There are dates for each neighborhood:

I always take advantage of the city's cleanup service. But since it only comes by twice a year I have stuff that piles up on occassion waiting for the pick up.

To answer the question, why do we keep this crap around? For me, its only because I have no truck to haul it off with.

What do you folks do with your big items (other then wait for the bi-yearly pickup). Hope it doesn't get dumped out off White Rock or Scott Road as I so often see out there grrr.gif

But why would you even want to save heaps of garbage for months just to feed the black beast?

laugh.gif I don't save heaps of garbage - its furniture and larger items - for example right now I have a bed frame, box spring, an old bike, bbq and some items like that around waiting for the pick up

I'd love to get rid of that stuff but I have nothing to haul it off with so it has to sit around til the city does a pick up
