They didn't want to pay macy's 20 million to have as an anchor, so macy's said no thanks. no Nordie's either??? HELLO, people with money to spend, such as those in folsom, ELD, Placerville and surrounding area's want high end stores to shop at. I'm sorry to say but I'll continue to go to Roseville and Arden to do my shopping. Then lets put across the street from that mall the other Wal-mart, Yeah, that's good planning!!!!!!!

Since we're moving to Folsom, I've been kind of bummed losing all that, but heard that the mall was finally starting to get built. But, I'm sorry, that is not a mall. That is a shopping center. A glorified strip mall.
Hey, does anyone here remember when Birdcage Walk was the new fancy thing? When they actually had bird cages and all that? That's what this reminds me of. And even more so with the new (a few years old now...) incarnation of Birdcage where you can drive through it.
Just looking at the plan of this gives me a headache. Imagine trying to park, or even worse, pull out of a parking spot in front of one of those stores, while a zillion pedestrians are walking all over the place and a line of cars are backed up because someone is waiting for the spot you're trying to get out of.
If they were at least putting in a JcPenney I'd be relatively happy. Not overjoyed, but at least you could go to a big department store without having to go all the way to Roseville.
It makes me wonder if maybe there's some pressure on the retailers from the City of Roseville not to open stores in Folsom. Because if there's a real mall with the reasonably expected department stores in Folsom, it's Roseville losing that business from everyone in the Folsom area not driving to Roseville to shop. Hmm...
Or maybe the department stores are only looking at the map and not coming out here to really research the needs of the area. Because anyone who says that Folsom is too close to Roseville to need any of those stores has never had to do the commute between the two towns. Not fun.
Grump, grump, grump...

I don't know. I'm sure it's going to be nice enough. But it's not a mall.

You are entirely right, the retailers do look at a map without looking at the needs. However, even the commute is bad between them, it doesn't stop people from going to Roseville to go the good stores. It may make sense to put 2 stores, but there isn't enough people to support the 2. 2 Nordstroms won't work just because there isn't enough people. It may be closer, but people that are that dedicated to Nordstrom will still end up driving to Roseville.
On a side note, I just drove by the Galleria, and construction on the expansion is officially starting. I also saw that the Max's Cafe closed, as well as McDonalds, Harvest Home Furnishings, and Copeland's. I did find out that all these closings, except Copeland's, are all planned as part of the expansion.

That is a really, really agressive list. Looks to me like a wish list!

Considering I got the exact same email this morning, I doubt you are the one who's sister in law actually works for Harry Elliott.

Eric, sorry I didn't see your reply when you posted. Yea, I agree. The area couldn't support two Nordstroms. But it would have been nice to have a JCPenney or something... Roseville is close enough to drive for an enclosed mall. Maybe someday there will be one of those in Folsom. Thanks.

Aw come on, you mean you wouldn't rush over to CPK or PF Chang's or Ruth's Chris? I don't believe for a minute that they have even half of these stores signed to a Letter of Intent.

I do see that this has turned from a Lifestyle Center to an outdoor mall.
This was in the Biz Journal.
The Fountains to break ground in April
Sacramento Business Journal - 2:30 PM PST Thursdayby Kelly JohnsonStaff writer
The developer of the long-planned The Fountains lifestyle shopping center said the Roseville project will break ground in late April.
Inter-Cal Real Estate Corp. said Thursday in a news release it will break ground in the spring and open The Fountains the following spring.
The 52-acre project will consist of 375,000 square feet of specialty retail and restaurants and 16,000 square feet of office. Occupants are to include Whole Foods Market, DSW Shoes, Boudin Bakeries, Coldwater Creek, Chico's, Z Gallerie and Sur La Table.
"The finished product will be well worth the wait as Northern California has not seen a lifestyle center of this caliber before," Matt Holmes, principal at real estate brokerage Retail West, said in a news release. "It will be looked at in the same vein as University Village in Seattle and Kierland Commons in Arizona."
The Fountains project has been in the works in one form or another -- at one point it was going to be a big-box power center -- for at least eight years. It's planned for 52 acres across from the Westfield Galleria mall at Roseville.

Makes me think it's a little "too good to be true" though. I like the idea of Ruth's, PF Chang, Armani Exchange, Tommy Bahamma, etc.
