Conservatives have opposed the mosque, homeless services, light rail, and a lingerie shop, citing the kind of people those facilities would bring to Folsom, and ridiculing the 'stinkin' libs' who do not share their views.

Ponder this for a second. Your possibly backwards on these items. The City Council is made up of 4 moderate/conservatives and 1 self proclaimed liberal. Yet all the above listed are here and approved. Your throwing all conservatives in with the threads started by "myfolsom" conservatives. Here in lies the problem with labeling people, there's only 1 STD, 1 EDF, 1 CV etc. Just throwing it out for discussion.......

Are you suggesting that the views expressed by conservatives on this forum are out of step with mainstream conservitism?

Regardless, the City Council had no legal reason to block any of those items, so they had to approve them whether they liked them or not.

Lastly, as I've mentioned over and over again, I am not painting all conservatives with the same brush. I am suggesting that some of the seeming unfriendliness strangers have felt in town may in fact just be that the general nature of many, not all conservatives may be to reserve judgement and willingness to welcome strangers, until they know them.

City Council approval likely has more to do with legal limitations and appeasing voters than the council members own political affiliation. Who's to say the homeless services would have been denied if it weren't for NIMBY protections and naysaying newspapers?

Well, all I know is wherever you go there are all kinds of poeple, but there are some trends throughout the country. When I moved from the East Coast to Colorado I was startled by the first random person on the street who looked at me in the eyes and said "Hello"... where I came from direct eye contact with a stranger was percieved as a threat. But having been cured of the East-Coast disease I have become a serial "hello-er", I say Hi to most everyone I come within 5 feet of. Maybe it's habit from being in the hospitality industry, but I always say 'hello' to folks and F them if they can't muster up enough energy to return a simple greeting. I don't think Folsom is in immanent danger of becoming a faceless city quite yet, there seem to be quite a few nice people around here. My neighbors were all very welcoming and I wave to and get waves back from random people in my neghborhood as we drive past each other.
Snobs Suck.

This thread will probably go on ad infinitum unless:

Steve, admit you were wrong, and that conservative people are just as friendly as liberals.

Don't do it Steve....it's a trap!!!! lmaosmiley.gif Sorry everyone, just wanted to add a little lighthearted-ness to the topic. I think Steve has made some keen observations and good points...right along with everyone else. I am not sure how this thread got tipped in the political direction, but I think that it really comes down to more of an individual basis as far as folks being friendly...or not. I am just hoping that Folsom continues to be the over-all friendly and pleasant small town that we (my family) discovered almost four years ago biggrin.gif

conservative....people.....are...just...as...friendly...as....liberals...

(perhaps even more so due to their stranglehold on the wealth, power and the media!)

you had it right until "the media". read the book Bias by Bernard Goldberg. He is a former exec. for CBS who wrote all about the reality of the liberal media bias.
