So thank you, mods, for deleting the spam from this thread, but did it strike anyone else as odd? I didn't study the website too closely but it looked legit. I expect this sort of thing from offshore spammers but not local.

Nothing says I love you like a new bike....

I was just looking at this bike the other day. My RT needs a play mate. However, I think for half the price a new 09 KLR 650 would mae a great companion. Hmmmmm, I need a job before I can ask for a second bike.

DANG I want that 800gs... a bike payment is not in the budget right now though, will stick with cheap and paid-for.

Someday, when im not living check to check, i will take you up on that offer! I promise you that! A couple months ago i got some guy off of craigslist that was selling a cafe bike.. i tried to buy it but it had sold.. anyways he said he could build me one for 1,000 bucks! So i said lets talk about it.. we talked over the period of a month and i got comfortable with him (he was from san diego- far) anyways, we agreed a $500 deposit would get him going and the rest will be paid when i get the bike.. so months went by and id call him and call him, and he never had any pictures.. i got suspicious, but thought.. maybe im being paranoid.. well 6 months after the deposit he calls and says his partner stole everything and he couldnt build me a bike anymore.. so i was angry, but didnt say anything.. just told him i would have appreciated him telling me he hadnt even started my bike yet. anyways, he agreed to a refund, but the money never showed, i called him and he said he was going through tough times, and he would pay me at the end of the week.. enver showed.. i called and called, then finally he said he wouldnt be able to give me a refund... now he wont answer my calls, emails, or anything... those $500 bucks really hurt me. I was willing to sacrifice for a dream, but not to get robbed! =(

I feel there is nothing i can do. All I have is his email address, myspace address, and cell phone number.. but i dont even have the money to pursue the guy to take him to court or anything.. its a lost cause for me.. $500 of my hard earned dollars gone.

That sucks.... 1k wouldn't have gotten you a very nice bike anyway.... most likely it would have been a hack job, like 90% of the "cafe'd" bikes out there.

Wow, that sucks. There was a report on the news of a guy selling things on craigslist and getting peopel from out of state buying. They would send hime money but he would never send anything. I am to the point where I will only pay in advace with a reputable business. Just be happy it was 500 dollars and not 5000.

paypal was not my friend this time.. i payed with paypal... and when i tried to get a refund, through them, they said they dont do refunds for "services" Paypal was one of the reasons i felt secure enough to pay the $500 deposit, but it bit me in the buttocks.

All i wanted was a hacked up cafe bike.. haha.. i think the fun part would be getting her all pretty myself.. i can do that =) I cant do the mechanical stuff (for some reason i can do it on cars but am afraid on motorcycles)

here is a dream bike of mine:

I DONT WANT ANYTHING MORE THAN THAT!! :drool

Is that a hardtail with an unpadded seat? If so, either you have a lot more padding on your bottom than I do, or you enjoy pain.
I would rather be Backpacking
