those are the exact grips I have on mine now (just a different color)

When I got this gun its the first time I ever used lasers, I gotta admit they can be very helpful...

Anyone here ever tried any of the Glock sub-compacts like the Glock 26?? How do they handle ??

I've got a Glock 27 which is the same as the 26 except it uses .40 cal instead of 9mm

It's a really nice gun, but I highly recommend you buy a magazine grip extender for it to be able to get your pinky finger around the handle to hold it better, once I did that it worked great

I've not enjoyed the subcompacts I've fired, including a Glock 26 (or maybe a 27...the 9 mm). I just don't like the feel of not having the grip be full length and I find that I have a hard time being consistent with shot placement with them. The only reason I can see to buy one would be if it were going to be carried, which would require a CCW permit that's essentially impossible to obtain here.

I agree. Subcompacts are for backup, CC. I wouldn't rely on one for primary use as they are not really useful outside of very close quarters (5 yards, maybe 7 yards). But a Para Warthog in a 45acp is fun. smile.gif

For a first gun, I'd recommend looking at a full size 9mm from Glock (?), Sig (P226) or HK (USP9 or P2000). Get good with that first then try out others -- build up a good technique with a 'standard' gun before getting into more specialized ones. Unless you have special needs at the moment.

Glocks and HK's are excellent choices. I prefer the Sig still: feels right, I like the operation and position of the controls and I like the look/feel of all metal (vs metal frame wrapped in plastic). I'm not used to the Glock trigger (don't care for the DA) and don't like the HK safety. Sig DA/SA is locked, loaded and safe enough for me -- don't need to fumble with another switch. Plus, I can install CTC grips if I want. smile.gif

Also, I think it's easier to find replacement sights if you want for Sigs - you may have more choices available.

The Glock 19 9mm is compact, but the grip isn't the short style like the sub-compact Glock 26 9mm. Looks like the G19 may be the way to go...

The 19 is a good 'un, if you're ok with that trigger feel. Cross shop it against the H&K USP Compact and the Sig P229.

Nice choice....

If you haven't already, I'd recommend you go down to the Gun Room and try a Glock and Sig (they never have HK's it seems) before you 'pull the trigger' on it. If you like the feel of the Glock, looks like an excellent choice.

I'm not the best shooter but just to give you a sense of how barrel length may affect you, here's me w/ an HK USP45 and USP45c (both 45acp) using rapid fire at 7 yards. You can be effective with both but, for me, the spread of the shorter barrel (USP45c) is larger. It may help to refine your technique with a longer barrel (ie - around 4.5"). HK USP9c, HK P2000, Sig P229 are probably pretty comparable to the Glock 19.

Don't get me wrong. I'd like to have a Glock 19. But I'd recommend trying comparable models first.

Yea, I agree. Handgun is kinda like shopping for a Silverado, F150, Ram 1500. Basically kinda the same but little nuances that may sway you.

Oh, btw, not that I'm recommending the use of the rail for accessories (ie - light) because there is considerable debate about this. But if you wanted to use the rail, check out accessories too. I've heard that the rails on some Glocks are too short for some standard accessories.

I don't own any pure shotguns. My two shotguns are Savage over-under combo guns.
The baby is the 22 LR over a 410
The daddy is a 30-30 over a 12 gauge
I would rather be Backpacking

Shotguns are by far the most fun to shoot, IMO. Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays are all tons of fun. Don't get me wrong, paper target marksmanship is a great challenge, but after a while it starts to be less fun to me.
