Perhaps folks coming from Roseville/Granite Bay/Rocklin/Sacramento driving down Douglas to Folsom-Auburn Rd will take that bridge to get into Folsom - not everyone drives on Hwy 50 to get here. Never heard of Chappaquidic bridge what is that famous for and where is it?

Maybe you could help as a volunteer?
Sorry Robert but that's a weak argument. the bridge will actually SAVE time and gas as its a shortcut to Granite Bay/Roseville/Rocklin etc...
Sorry Robert but I disagree - when I have visitors in town - I almost always take them to see the prison that they KNOW Folsom is very famous for - in fact, 10 out of 10 of the latest visitors we've had over the past few years have asked me to show them the prison

Like it or not, Folsom is mainly known because of that prison - for the one or two people out there who don't know that - they must be living under a rock to never have heard of Folsom Prison or Johnny Cash playing there and making a song about it

FYI, I've easily volunteered over a 1000 hours for the chamber, serving as an Ambassador & Chair Person for the Ambassadors and on the Board of Directors. In previous years I volunteered every single night working the rodeo, year after year. A few years ago, after working all weekend sunup to sundown, both days, at the water festival staffing the fishing pond, I was chastized for eating a cold hot dog that was going to be thrown out, by one of the in crowd.

I'm done volunteering for the Chamber! There are plenty of other worthy causes who appreciate my efforts.

I'm willing to offer suggestions. Since our city spends significant tax dollars on enconomic development and tourism through the Chamber, I'm puzzled why Kerri is pushing naming the bridge after Cash as a boon to tourism when I can't recall her ever demanding the Chamber promote Cash through tourism. The council approves funding for Tourism and if this is such a great opportunity, why hasn't she demanded the Chamber do something in her previous 10 years, as a condition of approval?

Why isn't there any signage in town promoting Folsom Prison and Johnny Cash? Who should be responsible for that? A volunteer?

I truly don't care what the bridge is named, although I still feel Johnny Cash would be cheesey. I don't belive the current name would have been my top choice either, so I have no problem with renaming it.

What does trouble me is how one council member keeps using people by misleading them into responding with wasted energy on issues, just so they can stay in the limelight. Its so sad that some of you just can't see what is really going on!

Dave, my friend, open your eyes and use logic, instead of allowing yourself to get suckered into making choices based upon personalities.

Call it The Folsom Bypass....That's technically and physically correct.

Really? sad.gif

I was thinking it sounded more like a foodie experiences along with gastroenteritis.

Though, I suppose if you got cashed during rush hour on the bypass bridge it might feel like gastrointeritis. lmaosmiley.gif

It sounds as if you are making choices based on personalities? Is someone "stealing" your lime light by discussing something of importance to others? Other can't see what is really going on? C'mon now, you might as well come out and call everyone stupid. Do you not realize how your personal feelings are blinding you with jealousy? Really, how many people are competing for the "limelight" of Folsom? rolleyes.gif It sounds so ridiculous that it's funny! Yessiree, I am sure this bridge name thing is just the hinge pin of a master plan for world domination! Don't be jealous because someone else is leading the band. Keep drinking the Haterade.

Since you seem to have everything figured out maybe you could explain why there hasn't been any movement in the last 10 years to push for promoting Johnny Cash, the prison and tourism?

Just a quick reminder the leaders of the band voted 4 to 1 against Johnny Cash and I still could care less what they name it or if they even rename it.

There are plenty of people who understand what is going on, don't get mad at me because you aren't one of them.

Well heck, then I'll ask:

what *is* going on here?

This can't all be about that cold hot dog incident.

ps: You probably know that one of my pet peeves is that there's a lot of Johnny Cash/Folsom Prison-specific souvenirs being made, I've seen them and even bought some myself in other cities in other states, but you can't actually find them *in* Folsom itself.

Robert, this has nothing to do with your vendetta against Kerri, I thought it was a great idea to name the bridge after Cash long before I knew Kerri supported that idea too.

At some point you gotta stop letting your hatred of Kerri get in the way - if you thought all this time that myself and others only supported this idea because of Kerri, then maybe its you who really needs to open up your eyes and stop letting personalities get to you...

interesting timing of all this -
Everlast (the rapper/singer who did "Jump Around", "What It's Like") just did a remix of Folsom Prison Blues, I heard it on the radio today. I'll post the video on the front page when it's available, it's supposed to be pretty cool.

The new software may allow it. You can do it with html but that's a huge security risk; we have been hit before because of it. I'll be upgrading in a few months when the next rev of the software is stable.

The video is on the front page now...

Dave, I absolutely respect your right, everyone else's right and Kerri's right to support any name you believe is the proper name. I can honestly say I could care less what they name the bridge and who is supporting what name.

I never once felt you or anybody were jumping on a name bandwagon based upon WHO was supporting what name. I just assumed everyone was capable of determing themselves what the best name should be.

Let me be clear in that I appreciate Kerri and all of our council members efforts in serving in what really is a thankless job! When I disgaree with them its because I simply feel they are wrong and nothing more.

Kerri is an extremely intelligent person, who spend a tremendous amount of time in serving on the council and one I believe who does what she believes is in the best interest of the city, MOST of the time. She returns calls, returns emails and will respond to almost anyone and works as hard as anyone on the council. Kerri has had numerous private conversations with me and has spent more private time talking with me than any other city council person. I will never share our private conversations.

Overtime, I've come to realize that Kerri plays political games more than the rest of her colleagues combined. Unfortunately this is extremely divisive and counter productive. For years I was a Kerri supporter and listened to her and bought into what she was saying. Others had cautioned me about this but I finally realized this on my own a few years ago.

I have never heard any of her colleagues ever say this, but I would wager any amount they know what I said above to be true. Its perfectly reasonable to have a difference of opinions on issues, but if your motives are to be different just to gather a following then its wrong.

IMHO, Kerri is playing games with the bridge naming issue and is using those who share the opinion about Cash as support. If Kerri feels that passionate about loosing tourism dollars over naming the bridge Cash, Why hasn't she ever done anything in her 10 years on the council in demanding the Chamber do a better job promoting the name Cash & the Prison? She has to approve the funding yet has never said a word!

When you answer that question you will realize its not about personalities!

Most likely because an opportunity to do it in a way that helps positively promote the city has never come up before until now.

By the way, what funding is needed to name a bridge?

I still don't see how this has anything to do with anyone's personalities.... well other then Johnny Cash's

I may be missing something but are we talking about the Kerri that is on the city council? Why would they have any authority over the Chamber. The Chamber isn't (or shouldn't) be a gov't entity.

They named the Lake Natoma Bridge during Kerri's tenure.
