I understand folsomgirl's frustration as I too know the real story as I know the family. I've bit my tongue on all the mudslinging b/c it is not my place to share the information. I can only hope...hope...that once the investigation is complete and the truth comes out that it will actually be shared with the public and clear this good cop's name. Will the media report it? I highly doubt it. The truth doesn't nearly sell as well as "Folsom cop arrested for DUI and battery"... and then let all the speculation and crap-talking begin. It's really quite sad what the media controls.

I stayed out of this thread intentionally up till now. I didn't know you knew this person.

When I first heard about this--I was PO'd. No secret how much I despise drunk drivers. Or even rowdy drunks.

But then, I came across multiple articles about this officer, his skills in SWAT, his K-9 that he just lost in March I thnk--the awards he got for other stuff, competeitions, etc.

By all means, on paper, he appeared to be a young, intelligent and really good cop.

Even the Army punishes severely for DUI-but for the most part, they don't usually lose their jobs or careers over it.

For some reason--I feel kinda bad for this guy--like maybe-there coulda been a different resolution before he got to the bar that night..........

If you really do know this cop-tell 'em-even some of us hard core anti DUI drivers feel this was an -- all around loss.

For everyone.

The article says it was a " HE " who called 911 and I thought it was a " SHE " originally ?

Does it really matter? I mean-yeah, the author prolly didn't do their homework-but the story is still the story.

Interesting that Irish has stayed off this thread.

Irish probably isn't allowed to say anything on this thread or anywhere else. From the Folsom Telegraph article:

"According to California’s Public Safety Officers Procedural Bill of Rights, Browning said there wasn’t much else the department could say."

So the Telegraph article doesn't have any story other than the cop assaulted someone and tried to drive. What are the other facts and the real story that would explain why he shouldn't be fired and charged?
I'm not judging him but some people have said (back in May) that they know the real story but they wont post it.

It looks like it wasn't anything that could be solved with anger and alcohol counseling. That part is sad. It would have been great if he could have got some counseling and returned to the job and his life a better man and officer.

So come on if anyone knows something share it...What is the "real" story?
Why did you tell everyone on here they were wrong?

Lots of people like to play the drama game "I know something you don't know" or "I know the truth and you don't", have you noticed not a single one of those people ever stated what it was they knew? Obviously they didn't bother going to the PD with their "secret" knowledge either so they must have either been full of BS, or ... full of baloney

It is sad the guy lost his job over this, especially when he had been doing so well. They should have given him a desk job.

I wonder if this officer bill of rights thing can be used to persue an appeal for reemployment under a probationary period?

it was bad he got so drunk, but the biggest mistake was mentioning he was a cop that night. It it was just a drunk in a bar, the thing would't have been such a big deal cause lots of folks are jerks at that time of night.

Yeah that's a brilliant suggestion. If they did that they'd have about 10 cops doing desk work since they got caught stealing cooking oil, doinking college girls while undercover in Chico, or getting a DUI.

Are you wearing a shirt that says "college" on it right now?

Nice job, you removed the part of my quote that I would hope have made you see the point. Oh well, keep trying, you'll get there someday.

Call me crazy--but I wonder-if work related stress drove this fella to actions he now regrets.

Do we really need to get into the "cops should be held to a higher standard" debate? He broke the law and the law he broke doesn't sit well with that badge.

Perhaps there is more to the story like some of these mystery posts have mentioned but to be a respected law enforcement unit I think they made the right choice. The officer made the wrong choice.

He can probably get a job in Oakland, Stockton, or LA rather easily.

Many jobs that require you drive for your duties will terminate you if you get a DUI. See also: truck drivers, ambulance drivers, medical delivery personnel. I don't know for sure, but I'd bet that UPS drivers, post office drivers, etc. all have strict limits on DUI's as well.
