Thanks for pointing that out, 4thGen, I'd just searched the page for "Folsom".

I've been here only for 6 years, but I have never heard of this train ride. Is this new?

In regards to keep/lose the rail discussion...I am from Santa Cruz originally and they have 2 historic Train rides. One from Felton to the beach which is open to the public and very popular. People LOVE it and it only causes minor inconviences to local traffic. The 2nd is a private mini-train (narrow-gauge?) in Swanton, north of SC that opens to the public only on New Year's eve. The rest of the time they do private events for train enthusiasts etc. Also a highly successful place.

I admit, when I first moved here, I questioned why we had those tracks still around if they weren't being used. But... if we plan on using them, I can easily see Folsom making this a tourist/destination event tat would be on par with what I've seen in santa Cruz.

it's something the volunteers have really gotten going in the last couple of years. the tracks date to the 1860s (although the one line from Sacramento to Folsom that light rail runs on now actually dates to 1855! That's pre-civil war!) the excursion runs are a hoot. you should definately go.

As mentioned before, this will certainly make it a Notable Gateway to the Gold Country.
