From the October 10th The Folsom Telegraph http://folsomtelegra...221011&print=1.

"The three candidates for the Folsom City Council race took to the capital city for a televised forum Saturday at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors chambers.

I served as a panelist to pose questions to the two incumbents, Jeff Starsky and Ernie Sheldon, along with challenger Roger Gaylord. The three are vying for two seats in the Nov. 6 election.

The forum, hosted by the League of Women Voters, will re-air every Sunday at 1:45 p.m. through Nov. 4 on SacMetro Cable Channel 14. Supposedly, you’re also able to watch it online at sacmetrocable.tv during that same time (but it is not available to watch as a file download)."

Every local election the League of Women Voters holds a candidate forum. There is a link to the video on the City's website.

So, this type of stuff gets discussed every election cycle (corruption at City Hall; need to get fresh CCMs). Much like in previous years, what I see discussed on MyFolsom, including discussions with new faces running for a seat, never really makes it outside of MyFolsom.

How can these messages better reach the people of Folsom? Anytime I mention any of these topics or new people running for office with someone in the area, they have never heard of any of it. For people running for office, it's never more than, "Yeah, I saw their sign." So they just vote for the incumbent, thinking that Folsom is a pretty nice city so everything must be OK.

Do we ever hold a debate for City Council seats?

Apparently, they do somewhat. It was mentioned in "The Folsom Telegraph." If you go to the home page and click the "Election" tab, you can read the editor's summary, who was also a panelist. He said what was most discussed was the importance of the budget, how to continue with the Central Folsom Business District revitalization without state funding, etc. No mention of when or where something else may take place.

It was held Saturday by the League of Women Voters at the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. You can watch it on Sundays at 1:45 on Sacramento Metro Cable Channel 14.

Oops. Knittychick beat me by a minute:)
Also, you can look at the California 460 Forms for the candidates and see who donated to their campaigns on the City of Folsom link.

I just sent an email to news@kovr.com about the
illegal signs
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Does the state of California have an "open records request" law that would allow a citizen to obtain pertinent emails, memos, etc about the issue of illegally placed campaign signs. It would be interesting to see if there were any "conversations" between Starsky and the city manager, the city manager and code enforcement, or even Starsky and code enforcement.

If this does exist, does anyone know how to go about making a request for records?

You can request them, but I doubt very much if you get anything. If they can't return phone calls and explain their position, they surely aren't going to give out emails.

The only way things will change is to get a majority on the council who are committed to making sure things are done right!

I was told there might be one on Oct 25th, however nothing has been officially scheduled. I've emailed the Telegraph to see if they would be interested in hosting a debate or candidate night. No word yet. I might just host one myself.

Are you sure? I was invited to this one, which said all three candidates would be there:

Candidates Night will be at the Veteran's Hall at 6:30pm Thursday, Oct. 25.

If I were a low level bureaucrat with a tiny staff, whose normal job is telling people to please put away their trash cans, and pitchfork-waving rabble rousers from the Internet were calling me three times a week to use me as a pawn against one of the most powerful men in town who is also my boss, and slandering me on the Internet, I'd find something else to do too.

Just spoke with Ernie Sheldon and he confirmed the date as well. Thursday Oct. 25 6:30pm Veteran's Hall. Why would Mr. Gaylord not gotten the official invite?

I sent an email to Mayor Howell regarding Starsky's illegal signs. Thirty minutes later I received a call from Mayor Howell. She explained to me that code enforcement has been notified but they are overwhelmed and that's where it sits. She suggested that I call Starsky himself and tell him he needs to take down the signs. I told her this is ridiculous; the simple fact that the current Mayor of Folsom would stand by and let this happen is appalling and will come back to haunt her in 2014. I did call Starsky and have yet to receive a reply.

The simple fact is even if Starsky takes his illegal signs down; the developers on the 50 side of Folsom have basically banned me from placing any signs on their property. This system is set up to keep the career council members in and the challengers out.

Also, a quick update from the League candidate night; if you have the time to watch it I would certainly recommend it. It will be replayed on Sac Metro Channel 14 at 1:45pm Sundays. Starsky continued with his "I did everything" campaign speech. He made it clear he obviously doesn't like me much. He especially didn't like that fact I debunked all of his points. He said "all we need is one more big business in Folsom, this would rid us of our revenue problem." I responded with "We don't have a revenue problem, we have a SPENDING problem; you can raise all the revenue you want but until the waste is eliminated we will always be in a deficit."

The real treat of the night was after the forum; Starsky was walking out as I was speaking with some folks. He grabbed my hand in an apparent respectful handshake approach (which shocked the hell out of me) and proceeded to tell me "it's too bad you attacked me up there, I had some votes for you if you took Ernie out." Many heard him say this; I told him this is exactly why I'm running, to rid Folsom of dirty politicians like you. Ernie's got my vote."

This guy needs to go; he has no class, no respect and is either deliberately trying to keep Folsom in the red or just plain ignorant when it comes to economics.

I finally received a reply from Peter Piccardo of code enforcement.

Quote:

Mr. May, Thank you for the email and sorry for the delayed response. Things are a little busy here in Code Enforcement these days. Given our current demand and staffing level in Code Enforcement our operation has had to focus on Public Health and Safety code issues to include property maintenance, blight, substandard housing and junk cars to name a few. I hope to resume to our normal level of service soon.

This is BULLS..T!

I personally talked with Code enforcemnet 3 to 4 weeks ago and at that time they NEVER said they were overwhelmed and couldn't do this. Its NOT what they said at ALL! Pete was very vague on why he wasn't addressing this, but he dam well NEVER said he was overwhelmed.

How come if they are so overwhelmed they can find the time to remove Roger's signs and not Starsky's?

The Mayor and the Council should be telling the CM to either enforce the sign ordinance equally for everyone or they will find a CM who can! If they aren't going to do this, then we as citizens need to find a Mayor and council members who will!
