Even to say lenient is not so, although some of the roadways can actually have unrated ( no speed limit) roads. However the attitude in Europe about driving is entirely different.
If you hit a vehicle, you are not just going to deal with insurance or a small citation. Over there, they have standardized fee lists on tickets for the police to check off. A fee for liquid on the ground. Check. 3 liquids? = 3 penalties.
You can get an enormous high from the act of driving at high rates of speed. But, just as it is not for everyone, for those whom do...they should have the mental wherewithal to know the difference between risky behavior versus incompetent or negligent. it is why I am ok with the death penalty for DUI, Speeders, etc

Actually I didn't look it up my daughter showed it to me. I do remember the lack of criticism for his actions which can only be attributed to being a star athlete.Your reasons for looking we're different then Steve's. You just wanted more ammo to hate the athletic programs in our schools and you advertised that in your posts.

I do see what you mean....Like if the star athlete would have instead been a known pot head/ partier (sp)/bad student/trouble maker...then Im sure criticism would have been all over the place...

I understand speed is not for everyone. And many vehicles do not handle well, when driving at 55 MPH or faster. I lived in Europe for several years, where the laws regarding speed on roadways is much different.
.........
I think Supermom can handle herself with a bit of "spirited" driving on the road when the time is right...... Any woman who can go into a combat zone, hostile territory, can handle a SAW, an M4 carbine, and raise a few kids I am sure can handle herself on the road. No worries here.... Chris

Hoping the elderly couple whose car she hit are going to be okay.
I only see one woman arrested for DUI in The Folsom Telegraph crime log for the 19th.
It's disturbing how many DUIs there are in town when you look at the logs.
Edit: According to the Folsom Police log there were two DUIs on the 19th, but only one with a collision at Glenn & East Bidwell. It said moderate injuries so I assume the couple is going to be okay.

You know I've watching the news and this forum and am amazed that they have not released the name of the other driver in this accident over by Natoma and the bridge road...

EDF,
I also wonder how many people know who it was, have they had his funeral yet and has his obituary been in the paper?
I wonder the same and sent the following to the Folsom Police Department.
Quote:
I, along with many others, are wondering why the name
of the driver of the BMW SUV that was involved in the
double fatal accident in the area of Folsom Crossing on the
14th of October, still has not been named.

I received the following reply this last Monday.
Quote:
Dear Mr. May –
The Folsom Police Department has received your E-mail message regarding the name of the driver involved in the fatal crash on Folsom Lake Crossing. This information is released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office after the next of kin has been notified, and not by the police department. We understand the desire to know this type of information but out of respect for the family (and the delicacy of this type of issue) we refer these matters to the Coroner.
Sincerely
SERGEANT C. EMERY

is it possible the remains were so thoroughly destroyed by flame that they can't tell who it was yet?
It is strange. You would think the vehicle would offer some clues to that. Surely, someone misses the driver and realizes they didn't make it home that night.
I'm not sure I would jump to the conclusion there is some kind of cover-up. In the Blue Ravine fatal accident in June it took until September before the other driver was arrested and their name released.

From page 3 of this thread by JMB83, so somebody knows who the driver of the BMW was.
The driver of the SUV was a local 49 year old man and a friend of many, including me. He was a good guy. I know nothing of the circumstances that lead to him apparently speeding, apparently with lights off, and apparently losing control. My sadness will become anger if it is determined terrible decisions caused this tragedy. My heart goes out to his friends and family, and even more so to the Schwartz family, as Steven's death is even more tragic and unfair.

I read that, but - and no offense to JMB83 -- it isn't an official identification just because someone wrote it here.
