The mother was an moron for allowing her (censored) son to have access to her weapons. I do blame the mother.

Arming school staff is the most assinine suggestion I have heard so far. If the President had suggested increases in mental health funding last Thursday he would have been criticized for wanting to fund more entitlement programs and labeled as a tax and spend liberal.

Have you ever once presented a possible solution to anything? Or do you just complain about other's ideas?

The mother's stupidity?

The guy was not diganosed correctly. Or.. he his conditions change (not unheard of), or... certain persnality defects were masked by a stronger and more prominent problem.

The guy was diagnosed with aspbergers. He had no former violent episodes with other people, or known diabolical problem with young children until this all happened.

Aspbergers is not connected with vilolence.

As far as a lot of stuff hasnt come out, I dont think many of us can blame the mother. or the school, or the guns or the bullets for this carnage. We need a better picture.

Further... I would like to point out one very--very, very important fact to all those people who are making terrible judgmental comments about a woman's parenting and culpability in the massacre.

Adam was an adult. She had no legal rights to contain him. And none of us knows what happened every day behind the closed doors of that home in a neighborhood where they say that family of two was very secluded and never spoke to neighbors.

So before blaming mommy, lets wait until a more comprehensive story comes out.

Yes - the mother was stupid. She should have taken responsibility for the situation she was in. I take these unconfirmed media reports with a grain of salt, but the news reported Adam and his mother had been fighting. They have also reported that the mother and father had discussions on how to take care of Adam. Friends report that the mother used guns to try to teach responsibility to Adam AND he was a troubled child. Now that's a great combination. You know how I learned responsibility? I got a job. Did Adam have one? I don't know. Was he able to hold one? I doubt it.

Aspergers not associated with violence? I'm not so sure about this. I know a child with Aspergers how has problems controlling his anger to the point I try to keep my children away from him for their safety.

This is different for everyone, but my mom told me "as long as you live under my roof you live by my rules."

The mother had guns in a home where a person with mental issues who had violent tendencies lived. Is she to blame? Yes! When my first child started walking I got rid of my guns. Why? Because I take responsibility for my actions.

Here is a solution for you Einstein. If you have a mentally challenged child, don't have guns in the house!

Since some want to ban "assault rifles" but want to allow hunting rifles with 10 round clips, I would like you to define what constitutes an "assault rifle." In Ca, it is based on cosmetic items that make a rifle "look scary," but has no bearing on actual lethality. BTW, many hunting rifles have at least 10 round capacity, can have scopes mounted, etc. What is the difference? AND, many hunting rifles use a much more powerful bullet than "assault rifles," so again, where is the logic?
If you want to address the issue of gun violence logically, you have to compare high ownership countries like Switzerland with the US and find the CULTURAL differences in attitudes towards guns. You also ignore the "evil" assault weapon which is statistically insignificant in gun crime statistics, and look instead at handguns (handguns =80% of crimes, AW <1%).
A more thorough background check that required a psyche eval would be fine by me, as would a mandatory firearms class that covers all types of weapons. Heck, they used to teach shooting in high schools. Perhaps a tip line for reporting those that behave recklessly with guns. All of those things I see as LOGICAL approaches to responsible gun ownership. Flat out arbitrary bans are not logical (or effective).
Ironically, with all this going on, I had to load a weapon for potential self defense for only the third time in my life the other night. Knocking sounds just outside my room at 3:30 in the morning... I was glad I was in a position to defend myself if necessary until police arrived.

When you educate yourself on what an assault rifle is you will understand. You see an AK47 and think they are all like that. Educate.

I may be wrong but I believe that the bat shooter had an illegally modified weapon with magazines that were only allowed to be sold to LEO.

M&P15, Remington 870 and two Glock 22's

Without looking tell me which is considered an assault rifle.

Also, from what I remember he had ILLEGAL high cap. magazines.
