In my opinion the teacher used a poor analogy in November to try to explain a difficult concept in the constitution. I can't speculate on what would have happened if the teacher had not chosen to retire.

All due respect SCA but I think it was more than just a poor analogy. It was REVOLTING! :lmaosmiley:

I used empathy and understanding to imagine what one would feel like.

You keep using the word empathy.  I'm not sure you understand the meaning of it.

Expressing joy that a person's job has been lost and his career over is not empathy.

Based on the data presented by the parents and students that actually knew him, this appears to be a witch hunt.

Do you have actual evidence to support your position, or just imagined speculation?

Doug, you are correct..If I found joy in his misfortune the word is schadenfreude. If you look back on this thread I DID try to empathize with him and his supporters but it just falls short compared to my empathy with a child. I don't know what you mean by evidence? I take the facts from the school board and the news. I do not know anyone, teacher or victim, actually victims as the teacher is a repeat offender. And FYI I take no joy in his misfortune. Just relief for the students and hopefully that making an example of him will keep other teachers from making the same mistake.

Wrong on all fronts those of you who thought he did something wrong, not at all....!   But good he's 70 and can go off and retire.  Shame on the school district for not having a spine and recognizing an excellent teacher and his excellent methods...!  Real history with real props, kids can smell, hold, touch, feel the fabric of history, see the real thing or a faithful reproduction of the physical object that represents a time, a movement, and a place in history.  Sir, if you are reading this thread just let it be known you are and were much appreciated and I thank you for educating many a Folsom child in the best way you knew how....!   Now go off into the sunset and learn more, study what you have always wanted to study in more depth. Read all those books that I am sure are still piling up on your shelf.   Learning never stops....!   Chris

Chris,  I was in the State Capital Building in Harrisburg, PA couple months ago and they have on display a very nice collection of civil war flags.  Not replicas, the real stuff.  Stop in and take look if you're ever there.

Give it a rest, dude.  Mr. Rowe does not "spew hatred".  Stop inventing a caricature of the man, so that you can feel smug about attacking him.

I also love the "able to offend again", and the idea that it must be stopped somehow.  Geez.

Apparently you either could not, did not read or were unable to comprehend my previous two posts. I don't have enough firsthand information about this teacher, his history or background to make a comment one way or another about how he handled the teaching of his students. So to clarify, I was not and am not inventing a caricature of this teacher nor did I attack him in any of my posts. I was responding generally to Folsom Trails posts and using the information she/he has provided.

As noted, my previous posts were addressed to Folsom Trails since she/he started this thread and raised concerns about Mr. Rowe and others like him and that what this teacher did was not appropriate in her/his eyes. I wanted to read Folsom Trails response to how she/he generally handles being offended and what she/he believes is the solution to the issue she/he raised that is being carried out by many others and has increased since the election of Donald Trump.

Again, what is this reference to a "Mr. Rowe"?

No idea, I was responding to Rich T who noted Mr. Rowe.  I have edited my post accordingly as I do not know the teachers name.

Dan I am a he FYI......To all on this thread, I am amazed at some. This issue is dead now but it seems to keep going. I do blame Donald Trump and Barack Obama. One opened old wounds and poured salt on them. The other took the baton on a hateful racist platform. Let me choose my words carefully here. I don't want to offend unless the shoe fits and if it fits you deserve to be offended imo.

I don't want to throw a blanket over an entire city so with that being said, it seems there is an ugly racist element in this great little city of Folsom. There are racists in every town but the response here confirms we have at the very least A LOT of racially insensitive people.
I KNOW Trump has emboldened many across the nation too. We have one right here on this forum who is openly proud of being racist and has spiraled out of control since the election. :CRAZYLOCO:

This city is no longer lily white and it's growing fast too. That means change good people of Folsom. As a city I think we need to take a long look in the mirror.

Thanks Who Do....   I'd love to see that...!   I have not been to Harrisburg in 25 years or so....   Last time I was there, working in Rochester NY, I had a day off and went right to Gettysburg.   I walked and drove the whole battlefield.  Knowing the history of this battle put me in awe every time I stopped somewhere, Pickets fence, Little Round Top, the Orchard, and the town itself.  I could easily spend a whole week there if I could.   Chris

Most of the flags in their collection are tattered, torn, worn, and faded as you might expect.  however, some have bullet holes in them and a few have blood on them.  a sobering display.

I'd like to point out that it's a shame that two historians and fine gentleman like WDYT and Chris and all those like these two get hijacked by the likes of the one we have here who shoves the rebel flag in people's faces and talks about gunning down BLM for expressing their 1st amendment rights. As you can see their discussion of these flags have no racism whatsoever. I really don't know where the teacher stood but he was given a chance already and re offended. It is unfortunate if he was indeed like the two mentioned above. In that case he was poorly schooled in presenting history in today's world, 2017.

I love that period of time in American History. It's a shame that there was a witch hunt to get that excellent teacher fired.

Chris, as far as the flags go, I love them all, but I'm still partial to the one that was on the rooftop of the General Lee. :)

OK,  what about the initial question?  Could you explain the policy FCUSD has regarding the teacher's use of offensive speech while teaching course material?  Is there a policy?

Did anyone notice?  SCA is apparently a school board member.  I asked a question regarding the FCUSD policy on a teacher's use of offensive speech while teaching course material.

SCA declined to respond.  When confronted with a pointed question, do the people in charge become silent?  Transparency doesn't seem to be a priority at FCUSD.

Typical for FCUSD over the last 20 years...infamous for questionable budgetary expenditures, and not addressing the real issues.
