113 articles found.  Granted, a few are dupes, but this is only a "recent news" search.  I'd say that's enough action to nullify your point regarding extremists in our own back yard.

Mylo, did you also look up 1.298 billion Muslims that mean you no harm? Probably not, because it doesn't make the news.

And when someone is accused it goes on the front page and top news story, then when it turns out they're not a terrorist, it goes on page 10 in a tiny retraction.

I don't have a problem with the people that mean me no harm. More power to them and long live me!

It's the other N% that scares me.

By the way, I'm for this mosque .. we need some religious diversity here to keep the other religious nuts in check!

Your friends are #ussies!

I invited 10 friends to go, 2 declined, 3 couldn't make it because of money (and I wasn't going to pony up for them).. 5 of us went!

And now you see how this relates to Mulsim extremists!

And this is exactly why you have to show a statistical correlation between the populations! If we had extrapolated from your sample to my college or vice versa we would have been wrong in both cases.

By the way, of the friends that couldn't make it because of money, I suppose they've been since then or are they now homeless?

Funny you say that, 2 of them were living in a rental house together up until last month when the landlord raised the rent.. right now they're homeless, aka 'in the market' smile.gif

I have over 100 jumps, and can't wait for a free weekend to get back out there. I hope the statistics of dying skydiving aren't 1 in 100, or I'm overdue angel.gif

Followup: I looked it up, 35 people died in 2 million jumps, so a .00025% chance of going out that way, unless the muslims are taking pot shots at your parachute!

Don't start with those selective statistics, I'm sure there have been more than 2 million jumps in the history of skydiving.

This version is better: Use some 80s rap beat.

Here's a little story back in the college days,
group of us were sitting around in smoky haze

talking about adventure and jumpin out the sky
Quite a few folks were adamant and said they'd try

I said, I think it's a great idea and would be fun to do,
but I suspect you're all full of it - yes it true.

That riled up the crowd and they started to shout
About going to sky dive `bout 3-4 months out.

That group that began with 30 and got way higher.
As it got closer most folks they was liars

Some said it was the chedder and some said it was the bread
I even said I'd pay but they turn around `n fled

Others said the time just wasn't workin' out
Just another excuse of that I got no doubt

50 homies left two weeks from the the dive
1 week left it was two times five

A few days left and we were down to two
So we pushed the date back, what else could we do?

It ended being just me and one guy
And then just me up in the sky.

My story is cool especialy as a rap
But as a comparison it is in no way apt

Cuz parachuting is a fun thing for some guys
But radical Islamists devote their lives

Comparing a one time hobby to a lifetime religion
Don't make no sense not even a smidgen.

You missed your calling CV! Do the rap artists know you exist?

rofl.gif

I love it!

Some people dedicate their lives to losing weight... unsuccessfully. Dedication doesn't always translate to success.

Come on bud, turn it into another rap. I hate that kind of music by the way, but it's cool to read and easy on the ears. smile.gif

You should respond in rap mode to all your posts! rofl.gif

Good, I'm glad you liked it. Pay particular attention to the last three stanzas.

BTW, Mylo is right, your friends are/were qussies.

I've been skydiving...tons o' fun.

So your position, belief is that the mosque being built will be a terrorist training ground filled with radical Islamists.

Ok, you have a right to your beliefs, as does everyone else in Folsom. If that's the case, then it's incumbent upon you and those who believe as you do to protest and exercise your rights to ensure that the mosque isn't built.

Knock yourself out. smile.gif

If the people of Folsom believe as you do, it won't be built, if they don't, then it will be built. Pretty simple really.

Nope, not even close. My position is actually for the mosque, as I said earlier.

What I've been trying to point out is that people have adequate reason to be hesistant about a mosque here in town.

You have been trying to refute that...with a spectacular lack of success I might add. I mean, the sky diving comparison!? rofl.gif You're comparing your college buddies wimping out to the soul-devouring conviction a radical Muslim has for his religion!? rofl.gif

I wasn't comparing the two, I was simply suggesting that people are more talk than action.

Even in your own fact finding excursion it was self evident. 32% of Muslims in Britain would like to see the west gone and only 1% take action.

Now that I'm off my call and can look it up..... here you go.

Odds of dying from a terrorist attack are 1 in 88,000.
http://www.foreignpo...p?story_id=3079

http://www.nsc.org/l...atinfo/odds.htm

Lifetime odds of dying:

All external causes 1 in 23
From injury 1 in 35
Transport accident 1 in 77
Intentional self harm 1 in 118

http://www.livescien...s_of_dying.html
Cause of Death Lifetime Odds
Heart Disease 1-in-5
Cancer 1-in-7
Stroke 1-in-23
Accidental Injury 1-in-36
Motor Vehicle Accident* 1-in-100
Intentional Self-harm (suicide) 1-in-121

http://www.anxietyan...whataretheodds/

The odds of dying in an automobile accident 1 in 7,000, yet we continue to drive. The odds of dying from heart disease in any given year are 1 in 400 and of dying from cancer 1 in 600, yet many of us fail to exercise or maintain a healthy diet.

What are the odds of dying on our next flight or next trip to a shopping mall? There are more than 40,000 malls in this country, and each is open about 75 hours per week.

If a person shopped for two hours each week and terrorists were able to destroy one mall per week, the odds of being at the wrong place at the wrong time would be approximately 1.5 million to 1.

If terrorists destroyed one mall each month, the odds would climb to one in 6 million. This assumes the total destruction of the entire mall; if that unlikely event didn't occur, the odds would become even more favorable.

In another hypothetical but horrible scenario, let us assume that each week one commercial aircraft were hijacked and crashed. What are the odds that a person who goes on one trip per month would be in that plane? There are currently about 18,000 commercial flights a day, and if that person's trip has four flights associated with it, the odds against that person's being on a crashed plane are about 135,000 to 1. If there were only one hijacked plane per month, the odds would be about 540,000 to 1.
