That's when you make friends with high schoolers that have pickup trucks. They'll haul all kinds of stuff to the dump for you if you reward them with pizza and x-box! smile.gif

hahahaha got one of those high schoolers here at home - just gotta get the truck..... thinking about trading my jeep in for a truck now...

I always take advantage of the city's cleanup service. But since it only comes by twice a year I have stuff that piles up on occassion waiting for the pick up.

It used to come twice a year but they changed it to an annual pickup and by appointment only.

Of all the places I've lived - Folsom was the only one (until recently) that did not have a recycling program - we've been behind the times.

Its amazing how many posts have been generated over trash cans, something I always took for granted but a lot of you folks are obviously very passionate about their usage and placement

Course I also find it amazing that there are folks who refuse to recycle - its not really that hard and if you think about it - about 80% (or more) of the trash you generate is recyclable materials (glass, cardboard, plastic ect)

In the words of Nike.... "JUST DO IT"

Exactly!!! What's the big Effin deal over trash cans. Are Folsom Residents lives so sorry that they have to complain over recycling and the bins?

Here's the other link on the forum about the same thing:

City Council, needs to be reminded of their plan. About 3 years ago, the city operated the Folsom Community Correctional Facility (FCCF). Resident's combined all of their trash, recycles, ect. in one can. Inmate's would sort everything on prison grounds.

City Council decided to close the facility because they thought they were losing money. However, lack of planning has put them in this position. They did not realize the extra expense of having trash trucks drive out to Kiefer landfill, and also recyclables to Bradshaw. This increased the wear and tear on trucks, increased the hours of solid waste workers, and now the added cans for residents.

The city has contracted with the prison for their outside work crews at $150,000 per year to help parks and streets, incidently this was also the benefit of the FCCF.

So, was the closure of the FCCF really planned out? or was it because Sam Speigel (Chief of Police) did not want the added responsibliity of overseeing the FCCF.

We have seen the salaries of these City Managers and have had dicusssions on boards. My thought is we should be recieving the very best oversight for the residents, and not what is easy or convienent for these high priced managers.

Hahahaha that 1000' of carpet reminds me of the time I busted out a concrete deck and it took me almost a year to get rid of it by dumping a few pieces here and there every week. C'mon people, what's the biggest thing you've taken apart and dumped piece by piece into the can????

You know that 4' x 2' concrete slab that's required by law for a back patio when you get a new house? That. I'm surprised the bottom didn't fall out when they picked it up. Sounds like you did the same thing!

But then why pay top dollar to the dump when you already pay the city to take it there for you?

You gotta pace yourself, John. smile.gif

Concrete is the only thing the dump takes without raping your wallet ($7/ton). You can get rid of old Asphalt for $14/ton. Dirt, on the other hand, costs $26/ton -- the same price as garbage. Go figure.

Wow. Lots of good discussion here. Here are my 2 cents...

* I personally don't have any issues with cans in the side yard. But then again I've lived a house in Folsom for over 15 years and have been able to park one car in my garage a total of 6 days.

* Need to watch out what is considered blight. I'm sure Comcast is just hoping for the day that satellite receivers are considered blight and need to be taken down or hidden.

* It's my understanding that HOA rules were put up by developers to ensure their new houses can still sell after people start moving in. They don't want perspective buyers to be turned off by cluttered yards. After the developers moved on, HOA rules really aren't enforced.

* Taking months to take away garbage - My wife trimmed our 12 photenia (sp?) bushes/trees and filled our backyard. It took me about three months to get rid of it via the black garbage can. She asked me why I didn't take it to the dump. I told that being a guy, it was the challenge that I could do it. Probably same for the people with the concrete or the TV - it was a challenge that was too easy to pass up.

Are Folsom's residents lives so sorry that they can't make a few feet available out of sight so that their neighborhoods don't look like trash heaps?

I for one don't mind if I see them lined up on the side front yard. Most of my court would be fined right now!! Should be interesting to see if anything changes.

cool....

Government acting as an HOA….tax $$$ well spent, more government!!! Let's ban street parking, public nose picking, ugly mailboxes and satellite dishes.

What whiner from this forum volunteers to pursue with the city?

I know Chad understands a cynical statement when he sees one… Do you?

I agree. This is not the function of a City, but a HOA.

Disagree. It is their function. And, they do have an ordinance already that bans parking on the street longer than 72 hours.
